TOTB3? Who are your big hitters?
No I am not stupid enough to spend £20,000 - £30,000 on modifying a car. There are more important things in life ;)

New tyre scrub in...
I have. A few set of tyres I got on the Z, they where bloody awful for the first 100-200 miles. Tyres usually have a shiny glaze on them when new which causes them to be slippy. Hence why F1 cars put scrubbed tyres on during a race. They grip better A good wheels spin will get them worn in quicker.

Tracking
That is not 4 wheel allignment then. Where I go it is independent 4 wheel allignement
-
Tracking
tracking tends just be the front wheels. 4 wheel is tacking on all 4 wheels, and they usually test for caster, camber as well as toe.

Help finding engine number!
it should be on the panel at the front of the engine bay. Its also on the top of the firewall right behind the engine.

Credit Cards and the Exchange rate
I got one of those coming too Baz :D Its not too bad when you are paying for £200-£300 stuff, but I have ordered over £2000 worth and its a difference of over £100 between the real exchange rate and what the CC charge you

Credit Cards and the Exchange rate
Where do credit card companies get their exchange rates from? I mean at the moment it is $1.85 to the £. I buy something parts from there and the exchange rate on my credit card is $1.77 to the £. It means that everything is about 4-5% higher. Why do CC companies have their own exchange rate?

GPS Tracking units
LOL Sorry ;) The trackers I have looked at a few years ago where about £300-£400 to have installed + £100 suscription per year or £300 or so for the life time of the car. But you cant transfer the tracker from one car to another

GPS Tracking units
No! Im not having a go at the system. Ya5een said he didnt want to pay £100+ a year subscription, but you can pay £300 or something and you get it all the time. This thing is a good package. I was thinking of trying to make something like that myself, but would cost a hell of a lot more as a small laptop or PDA would be needed to run it from the car. But like I said, that would just cost too much. ;)

Basically what happens they get a strobe light gun a attatch a clip to the cylinder 1 plug. When cylinder 1 sparks the strobe light detects it and flashes. They point the strobe gun onto the timing belt down the front of the engine. There is a plate down there with numbers and marks on. When the light flashes you are able to see a mark on the timing belt and its location along the palte, which you cant see without the stobe because it goes too fast. If the timing is right the strobe should flash when the mark on the timing belt is at the 15º BTDC (Befroe Top Dead Centre, before the cylinder reaches right to the top of the cylinder) Twisting the CAS causes the cylinder to spark earlier or later and so will the light and the mark will be lit up at a different value along the plate. Do you understand what I mean? Any garage will be able to do it as all cars have to have it done. Just remember to tell them standard is 15º

SMW1 your the best
Love the Z. Very clean, one of the nicest on here. I love the natural shape of the Z. :D

CAS = Crank Angle Sensor. Look here http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=26120 For the location. Its number 4. Standard timing is 15° BTDC You adjust the timing by losening the 3 screws around the CAS and twisting it. I suggest you take it to a garage to find out the timing and correct it if needed. Any garage should be able to do it. Stuart

GPS Tracking units
I be fair, if your car does have a tracker the police do go for it. There is very little police can do if you car is stolen, just put a notice on it so if the numberplate is caught somewhere it will come up stolen. There are police cars now which read number plates automatically as they driveby. Whether it is linked to the police database where it will show up stolen is another thing. If the car location is known, they cann't not act on it. The car is stolen, they know the location and the person who stole will most probably be driving it. The only thing I would be worried about, would the police use the information from this GPS here? The would have to phone up the mobile and they would get billed for it. Other trackers systems, the service providers actually contact the police directly and tell them where it is. The police also have a hand held unit which tells them the direction and distance when they get close. This unit is very good but I would be too tempted to go where my car is armed with a crow bar, especially if the police dont really do anything about it. By the way about the subscription for the other trackers, the ones I have seen you can pay I think £300 and its subscribed for the life of the cars existance. Stuart

That tracker you should be able to move, but other ones you wont be able to. Are those trackers on the site, insurance approved? Can the police use them or is it for your own use?

Head count for North West Meeting 29th Feb
Final head count for the meeting, Details: Royal Oak on the East Lancashire Road. For the people with Auto Route the Post Code is WA10 5QN. For the people who dont. Exit the M6 at Junction 23 and head down the A580 towards Liverpool. It's about 7.3 miles down that road on your left. You know you are getting close when you go past a BP station on your left at a set of lights. Its just under a mile after that I would say. The BP station has a good air pump. One of those where you select the pressure you want and the the machine does it. Its free too. If you are in Liverpool, head towards Manchester on the A580. Its about 3.5 miles after junction to the M57 A580. But as the East Lancs is a dual carrage way, people from Liverpool will have to double back. There is a break in the road about 200 yards after the pub. You can do a U-Turn there. Try to get there for 11ish. The Royal Oak said they get busy around 12, so try to get there before. Right at the end of the carpark there is a little set of spaces which runs away from the road. It would be good to all park there, but if its flooded or something, park where ever. I suggest at the far end of the car park. Just post up if you are going or not and I will ammend the list here. Hope it is a good day :D Stuart

optimax!!
Apparently Optimax is guarenteed 98.5RON at the pump I think. Due to the popularity of it and that only a few pumper per station has it, the fuel can never get that old. There are 3 Shell stations near to me and quite often one has run out.
