  1. Turbos may be a little less reliable. The turbo units themselves can need attention and they run hot which can cause some wiring to go brittle. But obviously, they're a good bit quicker! I just sold my 200SX and wanted a 300zx. I ended up with a 1999 N/A rather than a 1996 TT as I wanted to reduce the chance of big repair bills.
  2. One word..... NITROUS OXIDE Oh, that's two words. But you can get any increase in bhp (within reason) for about £1000.
  3. I just bought one and it's auto. The problem is if you're driving fast, go into a corner and hold a steady throttle, it changes up, so when you want to accelerate out of the bend it kicks down which upsets the ballance. Auto is great in traffic and for eating / smoking / testing / strumming off the Mrs though.
  4. Come on... does no-body know? If this was the 200SX forum, I'd have had loads of replies by now! Only joking people! Without this forum I wouldn't have had the confidence to buy or run the car and the info I've had has on other topics has been priceless.
  5. When I got my car it had an alarm fitted and the dealer tried to just give me the alarm remote and the regular keys. I got him to include what I think is the original Nissan 'remote blipper' thing. It's black with four buttons; a big semi-circular grey one at the top then three smaller round black ones in an up-side-down L shape below it. I tried pressing some near the car and I think there was a bleep but I'm a bit nervous incase it immobilises the car or something. So ... does anyone know how it works? :hyper:
  6. Don't worry about it yet; I'll try some other things first. Thanks anyway though.
  7. I'm not sure how it was converted. I think something was added to make the kph unit read in mph. The clocks haven't been changed and the 'k' of kp/h has been removed to leave m/h on the dial. What code is this AndyP and where do I find it? Thanks again for the help.
  8. It has been converted to MPH so I thought it would be ok.
  9. I tried to get my car flat out yesterday. (It's a late model Jap non-turbo). At about 130mph it seemed to be misfiring and wouldn't accelerate any more. It also seemed to be chaging between gears, or trying to at 130 too. Any ideas what's wrong? I was going to change the spark plugs or try using Optimax.
  10. I was thinking about getting some Iridium spark plugs for my N/A 300. Loads of claims are made about more power (up to 10bhp more etc). Do they really make any noticable difference or would I need a dyno run to actually tell they were there? :hyper: Crraaaiiiggggg Daaaaayyyyvvviidddd ; Bo!
  11. thanks gents good advice as always
  12. When I bought my 300 I had it up on a ramp and saw a plastic pannel in front of the passengers side front wheel on the underside of the car was broken. It's sort of shattered a bit and hanging down but still roughly in place. You can see it hanging down from a distance. I'll get it replaced sometime but should I do it really soon for any reason? Could it be letting water in anywhere or anything? It's roughly (I think) the size of a cornflakes box, and in front of the passenger side front wheel on the underside of the car. Cheers peeps
  13. [quote name=jock and as your mate in his TT goes past muse quietly on the fact that you havent got turbos to go pop, you havent got hycas to mess up your handling,[/quote] I thought I did have HICAS...... Hmmmmm
  14. Crickey It's kicked off proper and no mistake.
  15. I drove past a gritter the other day on the motorway. I had to overtake it or follow it for miles with salt and grit everywhere. But as I pased, my car took a RIGHT PASTING. Not nice. In future I think I'll wait for an exit roundabout, pull off there and get back on in front of the gritter.
  16. They're in north Cambridgeshire! But I thought they might be a national chain. If not, I'm sure a decent motor factor could mix up some paint for you. But I wouldn't recommend halfords though. :p
  17. True But i could't afford a late turbo or even find one for sale and I don't trust myself with an early car.
  18. I wanted some spray for my import 300 which is an unusual colour. i had no faith in Hlafords as the stuff they gave me for my 200SX was terribly wrong. I got Brown Brothers motor factor to make up an aerosol from the paint code. It was a perfect match but it was £15-ish. Nissan had no idea what the paint code was and didn't seem interested in helping.
  19. is it you that has a 1999 NA? That is a lovely car and doesn't need to be a TT. I love it to bits. But everyone I tell I have a 300ZX says: "ooh, isn't that a twin turbo?". Oh well, they also get in, see the mats which say "Fairlady" and piss themselves. I guess I should just ignore them and enjoy the car. Besides, all my mates have Seats, crappy VWs etc so they're in no position to knok my purple monster. :hyper:
  20. I bought a normally aspirated 300 recently. The roads have been pretty slippery so it seems plenty quick enough. But maybe one day I'll want more power. I realise turboing it would cost what... £4K maybe? But I reckon nitrous would be more like £1K. Does anyone know if it's been done? can the engine and gearbox handle the extra power ok? Cheers folk
  21. Mine is purple as standard. It's a 1999 japanese car. It's very dark metallic and was sold to me as 'aubergiene'! Yes, the paint code is LP2
  22. I had a brown 1 litre metro that my gran gave to my sister and my sister gave to me. I remeber touching a tiny spot of rust that had appeared on the front wing and a huge piece the size of a squash raquet head fell off as it was all rusty and poxed. My neighbours broke into it and moved it 200 yards up the road as they said I was in their parking space. I used pliers to turn it on and off after that, as they knackered the ignition switch. Bizarrely it handled well.
  23. It's often worth asking the person who does the insurance quote to "discount 20% off the screen price". They generally have to go and ask their manager but loads seem happy to do it.
  24. I tried getting keys cut at a local key cutter and it's exactly the same. I've had two now and both were stiff in the door and didn't work the igniton at all. Glad I got the titanium one back as it's smooth everywhere (!)
