Insurance ringround for NA July 2007
LOL i'll be lucky to get one under the £500 mark, one of the dis-advantages of being 25 and living in East London

what goes here?
I think i'm right in saying that you can get an auto starter to fit a manual box but the pinon gears are a different lengths and to fit it you will need to use washers behind the bolts to space properly. Hopefully someone will be along soon to correct me if i'm wrong

Advice Please... What happens if...
Found this on a site hope it helps. When buying from a dealer, the law says a car must be: Of satisfactory quality. It must meet the standard a reasonable person would regard as acceptable, bearing in mind the way it was described, how much it cost, the age and the mileage on the vehicle. Amongst other things, this covers the appearance and finish of the car, its safety and its durability. The car must be free from defects, except when they were pointed out to you by the seller. As described. If the advert states “air conditioning and CD player” then the car should come with these features and they should be working. Reasonably fit for any normal purpose. It should get you from A to B. Reasonably fit for any other purpose you specify to the seller. For example, towing a caravan. These rights are not affected by any mechanical breakdown insurance (which is often sold by dealers if the manufacturer's warranty has run out), guarantee or warranty giving additional protection. Once a trader gives a warranty it becomes an agreement on its own, but it is not your legal right to demand a warranty from the trader. If you inspect the car, or someone does so for you, the dealer may not be liable for any faults which should have been uncovered by the inspection. It's a good idea to get a description of the vehicle's condition from the dealer: ask whether there is a pre-sale inspection checklist.

Grounding Kits ?
All it does is a back up grounding point for the harness and engine components in case you get a bad earth to one connection. Agree with silverbullet though much cheaper to make your own harness and that way you can route it anyway you want and will probably look a lot nicer than the kit version

tensioner advice
companies only get a good rep if no one confronts them or complains when they make a mistake or do something wrong. I'd just bring it into conversation saying that your still uncomfortable with the fact that they have "serviced" a tensioner when they are sealed units. Ask them exactly what they did to the tensioner to service it if they say they took it apart it bull **** as they are sealed. If they start to give you info that sounds a bit far off then challenge the answer if they know what they are doing they will be able to explain exactly how they done it if it sounds like bull then tell them your not comfortable with it and you want it replaced. At the end of the day it's their fault and their problem so they will have to cover the cost. Most garages are insured for accidents from their mistakes but do you really want to run the risk of bend valves for the sake of a garage saying they "serviced" a tensioner?

tensioner advice
ahh that's why they charged you for it then. well at least it's sorted now though. at first sign of that serviced tensioner i would have been down there like a shot though and charged them for the price of seeing a main dealer

tensioner advice
so was the car not running when you took it in or was it just running bad? what did the vehicle go in for? they shouldn't charge you for investigating unless you took it in as a problem and not as a routine replacement

tensioner advice
Lol that souds rather scary... in all my years in mechanics i've never heard of a serviceable tensioner. Probably got the wire brush out cleaned it up, coated it in wd40 and re-fitted. To be honest mate i'd tell them your taking else where to get it done properly and charge them for the job. If they complain threaten to report the garage due to healt and safety issues. Wouldn't want to do too much mileage with a "serviced" tensioner. If the belt breaks it's big money mate. nb Always see a reputable dealer. Back street garages may offer a nice price but you only get what you pay for.

TDi. Advice
did they change the diesel fuel filter? if so is it a self priming pump? They could have changed it and not primed the pump properly causing you to have air in the fuel lines.
