Is that an N/A like riobensons though? as i believe he said his N/A could outrun a four. I don't doubt for a second a tuned TT could run them times though. Sorry :o

So did you do your little test the other weekend? my car put a 14.2 standing 1/4 at japshow, the weather was very hot on the sunday so i was only running around 1bar boost. On another not, have pretty much secured a 300, got to transfer a deposit tomorrow then pay the balance when I've sold my car :)

wouldnt like to mess with these guys
I saw them at Hackney Empire last year, the only let down was the one white dude that didn't have a clue what he was supposed to be doing lol

wouldnt like to mess with these guys
I've seen these guys live, they really aren't messing about, those sticks, bricks etc are totally real. A lot of that stuff does come down to technique though and being able to ignore a degree of pain, but still, it takes a lot of training and mental ability.

Let me know how that goes ;) Well I've pretty much decided to sell the four and get a 300. If it don't work out i can just buy another four. Do you think its a bad idea that i already have a shopping list from the Zedcentre?

The yanks are indeed a bit mental :) well as a bit off an experiment on my way to work last night I turned the boost controller off in the four which effectively made it 0.7 bar in all gears. It then felt very similar to a 300 in terms of performance, so i guess a boost controller combined with similar mods and the bigger displacement would make the 300 "faster" I do agree that the four would be quicker off the line, but the 300 would have the legs in the long run. Still not been put off buying a 300 yet, just need to find a good one to experience the potential if you get what I mean.

Maybe? Trouble is i don't want to be taking a "backwards step" in terms of performance. Granted I'll be giving up the handling benefits of 4WD and that I accept, but if both cars with the same mods (air filter, exhaust, boost controller) will make around 330BHP 300ft/lb torque, then I'm not sure I can justify the change. I love the look of both cars, for different reasons, and the Zed is much more refined to drive, much smoother but it's not as exciting. Hopefully I'll get to see a good one in the near future as even i know it's not really fair to compare a good GT4 to a bad example of any given car really.

I don't find your opinion/question rude ;) like that cockney bloke from the BT ad said: "it's good to talk" The Four has reached it's maximum now without resorting to forging the engine, the only things i could do now would be a front mount intercooler, bigger injectors and fuel pump, ECU upgrade and maybe water injection and that would only gain me another 30bhp (reliably anyway) Maybe your right and a 300 isn't the right car for me? I'm willing to give it a fair crack of the whip though as I've always wanted one. Perhaps I've grown to expect too much from it though? Time will tell I guess, the one I saw today was very nice to look a,t although needing extensive tidying of the body work, was a step in the right direction so to speak :)

I've driven three now, and the most surprising thing is none of them were using super unleaded, all of them were using the cheap stuff and at high revs they were getting det :( I must admit that I am looking forward to the halfway house meet, hopefully see some decent ones there. A standard ST205 GT4 will hit 60 (officially) in 5.2 sec, but i know mine and plenty of others that can do it in the low 4's A N/A 300 wouldn't stand a chance against a ST205 IMHO, and I think a TT would be given a run for it's money (stock for stock) if I'm to judge it by what I've witnessed. I would never of even bothered to try against a TT if i saw one but now, I don't think it would be left looking suprised ;) Anyway, I hope you right and they've all been in Limp mode, cause i love how they look, but performance is more important to me, and right now, the four is leagues ahead in that department.

I'm not calling you a liar, but I do find that a little hard to believe, although saying that if they're running them on normal unleaded and not super it'll cause det and the timing will be retarded. Uk spec cars also have less bhp (236) as opposed to the JDMs 255bhp, but I've seen stock GT4's make any thing from 230 to 270 BHP on the dyno before so who really knows? That is true, the power delivery is a lot smoother, but I do kinder like the viciousness of the four's. I think some of that is the fact it is 4WD as it allows almost full power launches if you're careful ;) Power to weight ratios are also comparable so what I'm looking forward to is driving/going out in a modified 300 and then seeing as the 2 i have driven have been almost stock. It's really the EBC that transforms the car as once it is set up correctly you can make the turbos earn their keep so to speak. Stock for stock I'd have to agree, mine does pull VERY hard to way past the speed limit though, all this talk is making me want to put all this to the test on the 1/4 mile now :hyper:

Granted RR's can vary some what, but I know some cars that had the same mods making very different power at a GT4 RR day I arranged recently. The trouble with Supra's are they are a bit bland and ugly IMO. I think your boy's need to push the pedal all the way down then ;) Are they in ST205's or the older ST185's with pop up head lights?

Thanks for that, just the info I was after. I knew it was a bit harsh to compare my four to a stockish 300, but to get the four to how it is now has been pretty easy, so wondered how easy it would be to do similar mods to a 300 and what it's effects would be. 1700kg though? I though my 4 was heavy.......

went out in another TT today, a MUCH nicer example, still wouldn't buy it as it had some small rust issues and ideally I'm after something in near perfect condition. The biggest let down was the performance again though :( which had led me to need some question's answering. 1. What's the weight of a 300? 2. How much torque does the engine make 3. What pressure can the turbo,s be safely wound up to? 4. What's the 0-60 time? Hopefully the meet at Halfway house can restore some faith into me :)

A VERY sad looking '96 Zed

Soon to be ZX owner.
Well, today i went out in a 300zxtt. It was a bit of a dog TBH and i had no intention of buying it. Someone at some point has spent a fair bit of money on it, but where it's been passed from owner to owner over the last few years it had fallen into neglect which was quite sad really. It had Blitz dBOV's, TEIN coil overs and a couple of other little bits but it really needed a couple of months of work , stripping and rebuilding to get back to it's best (not to mention a respray) I was a little disappointed in it's performance though, didn't feel anywhere near as quick as my four, (not sure how accurate the bum dyno is though) still I KNOW that that was a bad one, hopefully going to see a good one tomorrow morning so will report back then.

So technically, the fuel system needs upgrading and perhaps a remap to compensate then. I'd imagine stock turbo's are running at their limit also in terms of flow and operating/intake temp?

Hmmmm, I've almost got that in my four :o( really do want 400+bhp, granted it's going to feel quicker in the 300zx (more torque and less transmission loss) but still not what i was hoping for. What do you think would be needed to get to that sort of power? (400+)

and "slicktop" sounds like a hair cut your grandad had in the 40's................

Cheers for the welcome guys, out of interest, how easy is it to ectract more BHP/torque from the TT engine? what sort of gains will i see from any modifications and how will they effect reliability?

Hello again, I say again as I joined this site just over 2 years ago when I was thinking of buying A 300 then. In the end I bought a Celica GT4 ST205 which is now over 300bhp, trouble is I want more power and it's just not worth the money to get it IMO so I think it's time to Upgrade :D I've had a look through the buyers guide etc and I'm going round taking cars for drives ATM just to get a feel for the good ones from the bad ones so to speak. Got to sell my four yet but I'm in no rush so thought I'd start hanging out here and learn a bit about the car I'm planning to buy. I'm after a SWB TT manual Targa, which as far as I can work out are rare as hens teeth, but I would settle for a LWB one if the condition/price was right. Any way enough waffle, If i see your stand at Japshow, I'll be sure to come over and say hello.

Pointers on buying a 300zx?
I must admit the condition of imports are way above a car that's lived its life over here the whole time, as I said my old GT4 was an import and that looked brand new with only 86k miles on it. The more I think about it the more I want one now, but I must resist the urge to sell everything I own that's worth anything..............Mustn't I?.....
