  1. He was down in Wales, don't want to say who cos he seemed very helpful on lots of other stuff. He did say to get rid of the boost jets ASAP which seems like good advice. The conversation about the fuel pump came after he learned the mileage, which is 130,000. Still, sounds like it's ok. I'm going to get the bits in the USA and bring them back, take advantage of the weak dollar. Then I'll have a go at setting up the AVCR myself.
  2. Ah! Thanks for that. :-) Guess his estimate for 10 hours labour for setting up the electronic boost control was b*****ks too! Gonna do that myself anyway.
  3. Evening Chaps A conversation with a tuner about fitting electronic boost control the other day suggested to me that my stock fuel pump in my z isn't up to the job and I will be running lean at 14psi. What do you think? I've not got bigger injectors - I'm not really planning to go above 14psi at this moment in time either. Thanks!
  4. Smithy - I was asking a similar question on another thread about removing boost jets... Are they just 't' pieced into the wastegate actuator lines? Or is there more to removing them that that? My car also has jets and I want to fit an Apexi AVCR to it soon, cos I'm qorried about boost spikes and the like. Thanks!
  5. Oh, it's as simple as that is it? Aren't wastegate actuator bleeds a bit of a Barry Bodge-It way of doing it? Might block them off completely and put it back to stock boost for a while until I fit the AVC. Thanks again for your advice. I'll probably be bending your ear again when I come to fit it!
  6. ok thanks both - I'll give the Southend garage a call. Yes Mr zx ice, I would love the number of the Sevenoaks place, it's a bit closer to me. Have you used them before and were you happy with their work? Cheers
  7. Thanks for that, maybe I'll give it a try. I'm assuming the bleed jets need to be replaced back to stock parts. Does the standard car use jets at all? Or is the boost all controlled on the wastegate actuator and solenoid? If I need to remove them, any ideas where I should look to take the little bleeders out? (no pun intended!) :D
  8. My z is currently running a 14psi boost upgrade, but was modified (before I bought it) using bleed jets and a fuel cut defencer. I want to sort this out with a good electronic boost control. I'm thinking of buying one of these along with some other bits from the US, but who would you reccomend to get to fit it and set it up? Also, I was told that with a car with 130,000miles, I should upgrade the fuel pump if I'm running more than stock boost. What do you think? Thanks for your input!
  9. Anyone out there got a TEIN Flex suspension kit on their z? If so what do you thnik of it? And better still, is anyone using the electronic adjustment add-on? Just looking at importing a kit from the US and taking advantage of the old £/$ at the mo.!
  10. Evening All Decided to have a spend on my Z. It has some corrosion damage to the rear panel (under the bumper) where it has had a crappy wing replacement and the moisture has got to it, and also a bit of rust underneath where someone has been careless jacking it up and the water has gotten under the paint around the jacking points. My local bodyshop, while they are competent, don't seem interested in doing anything more than a "We'll slap some paint over it and slow the rust down for a year or so..." as they say "It's an old car and isn't worth it!" As I am about to spend a couple of grand on suspension and brakes, plus electronic boost control, that ain't good enough. Does anyone know a good bodyshop in the SouthEast that from experience has replaced panels and done a good job? Thanks!
  11. Ok, thanks for that. I'd do it myself but I don't have access to a pit or lifter anymore. Maybe I'll buy a socket extension for the dealership that's gonna do it for me!
  12. Evening All Just took my tt for it's MOT this afternoon, and found one of the fuel tank mounting straps had corroded through. I have ordered two new ones to replace them both. I see the bolt at the front of the strap is quite well tucked away - has anyone else done this job, and if so did you need to remove the rear wheel steering rack, or worse, the diff. to get at the bolt head? Hope not! :-( Cheers
  13. Hi All I'm about to replace my downpipes with some stainless ones (due to that little branch pipe leaking) and just wantde to know if it is an emmission control pipe of some sort, and if you just block it off or vent it to atmosphere after the new pipes are fitted? I'm guessing that's what the pipe is... Thanks!
  14. Hi guys, ok I'll take some piccies this evening and post them. They are pretty good, not been curbed, in fact I've never used them, they just came with the car. Just brake dust and a little bit of bubbling on the outer edge of a couple of them. They've got Bridgestone's, the fronts have loads of tread on them, the rears are legal, about 3mm. I wanted £240 the set, but in pairs £130 per axle just in case I get left with 2 odd wheels! Unless you're both sure you want both ends. Let me know what you think when you see the photo's. Cheers
  15. Ah ha! A perfect solution! Haven't a clue about prices, make me a sensible offer. They've got pretty good boots on them. I'm in Central (West) London. I'm away on the 8th July for a holiday, but they won't go anywhere.
  16. Thanks for that, I'll keep a note of it for future ref. I eventually drove it 80 miles to a guy I've known for a while, we spotted the leak as soon as the car went into the air. I'm getting a pair of stainless downpipes to replace the stock ones and he'll fit them. (I'm in Maida Hill at the moment, but considering another move after the security staff at my building told me they'd throw my stock spare wheels away within a week because they were a fire hazard!!?) Stacked neatly within my own parking bay too! Think they're just jealous of my zed...
  17. Hi There! Anyone after a set of good condition stock uk spec wheels and tyres? Hogging too much space in my parking lot... Also, does anyone know of where I can get, or better still anyone have, a pair of stainless steel downpipes for a uk Twin turbo? That little pipe (emmission control?) into the side of the main downpipe has corroded through and it's blowing... :-(
  18. Hi guys Just found an exhaust leak underneath my zx tt (which has been overheating the ns front wheel arch believe it or not!) and has only just become audible when it's cold. Thing is I can't get under the car to check it out.. Does anybody know of a garage or exhaust centre that can be trusted to stick the car on a lifter (or over a pit) to investigate the problem, without the usual Kwik-Fit "Needs a complete new standard factory 'zorst system guv!" type response? Somewhere in or around north / Central London? I just want to see what the problem is, I'm hoping it's just a loose clamp or something. It's got an HKS system on it, so I'm assuming (perhaps incorrectly!) that there isn't anything else to corrode down there... Cheers PS Anyone want a set of stock UK wheels? Sensible offers???
  19. Thanks Eric I'll just put the US dampers on the rear then if it's a simple swap.
  20. Hmmm... So the fronts are electronic on the US car as well, eh? Well if that's the case and they are the same then I might get a whole set and wire them up, assuming it's just a signal wire. But there seems to be a bit of a split of opinion on that, so here's the part number from the fiche in the Nissan Dealership... 56210-30P25 Is that the same as the UK part number?
  21. Oh. :-( Thanks for that, I'll give that a miss then. Probably end up getting some coilovers from over there when I can afford it. Cheers!
  22. Hello My rear dampers on my UK z are totally rooted. I was in New York yesterday and a main dealer had rear US spec dampers for $89 They are the electronic adjustable ones, but is the valving the same? Are they softer?
  23. Model making! Yep, remember many an idle summer when the Lola model makers were flat out wind tunnel testing the new shapes, and we didn't have any cars to bolt together, so we would get tasked with machining up little scale sized suspension components! I had a garage full of 'offcuts' of titanium, alloy sheet, carbon fibre too! ;-)
  24. Thanks buddy! That's the part... Just need to find if I can buy the bushings separately. I'll have to call them, they're poly bushes so won't be standard. Cheers!
