Boost signal line for Profec B (again)
Oh yes, done all that... With the unit switched off it boosts to standard actuator base boost - about 6-7 psi, so I know it's all as it should be. I was just wondering about tapping into the vacuum hoses... I mean, they all come off the plenum, so as long as you pick up off whichever vacuum line straight off the plenum and obviously before any sensors - actuators etc that may be in the line, it should be ok, am I right? I'll try and take a photo of where I have plumbed in. It reads -5psi ish at idle too...

Boost signal line for Profec B (again)
Hi All Sorry to go back to this again, but I have installed my Profec B and mapped the boost - seems to be fine though the settings I ended up with a afir bit lower for SET and GAIN than some others posted on here. I used a 'T' tap into the vacum line on the driver's side, where it comes off the plenum, and I think it is part of the AIV circuit having just read another posting here. Is this ok? I assumed one vacuum line was as good as another as long as they went to the plenum... I avoided the fuel reg line as it was suggested a leaking pipe might cause it to lean out... The boost / vacuum pressure on the display with it all switched off seems to make sense.

Buying parts from the States
Hi! It's £145 duty limit on personal items, but a few people will provide a 'doctored' invoice if you ask them nicely... ;-) Also some outlets don't include an invoice with the shipment anyway, just a picking list, so nothing to give away the value of the goods. They email you the invoice. I've brought back bits like dump valves and boost controllers like this. Anything over £145 and you pay duty AND VAT on the whole amount, not just the excess.

Probably a dumb question - turbo timers...
Ah right I'm with you... So the immobiliser sets some time after the engine stops, not when the key is removed. That's ok then. It didn't have an alarm for the last few years, just an immobiliser so it won't be much different. At least it'll stop the girlfriend burning my ears while I'm sitting there for 3 minutes at idle contemplating life. ;-)

Probably a dumb question - turbo timers...
Hi All... Just had a new cobra alarm fitted this week, and am now thinking of a Greddy turbo timer and harness... But will the immobiliser cut the engine after I have removed the key from the ignition and locked it and walked away? Cos it uses fuel and ignition cuts, and it auto arms anyway after about a minute with the key out.

Upper LinkArms
I got mine from Courtesy as well, the same 'Midori' style steel plated ones you see above. They are indeed a work of art! Easy to fit, and I couldn't believe the state of the bushes on the Stillen ones I removed... So bent I had to cut the bolt out to get it off the mounting bracket. Personally I would only fit them with solid (adjustable) front tension rods though. If you are going to fit solid upper links then you don't want compliance in the lower assembly. I bought the two together from Courtesy. Have a look here:- http://www.courtesyparts.com/z32/index.html They have a special price on the upper links at the moment. However I am sure someone on here can get you the same ones over here. Just make sure the ones you get are specific to the 300, as there is a similar upper-link which doesn't have the offset on one side for clearance, and it can neck out on the mounting bracket under extreme bump.

Boost signal for Profec B?
Ok, sounds very sensible to me! I'll see if the hose is long enough...

Boost signal for Profec B?
Evening All Just a quickie, where is the best place to plumb in the boost signal line for my Profec B? Preferably on the left side somewhere as that's where it's going through the bulkhead. Also, is it ok to 'T' off this hose inside the car for a boost gauge? I figured a leak anywhere in these lines would be bad news as far as controlling the boost goes, so I want to keep the number of junctions to a minimum in the pipes. Is this good 'boost housekeeping'? :)

Washing HKS induction filter?
Hi All Thanks for all the replies - have been out all day waiting for the new immobiliser to be fitted ;-) yeah the PCV's are well past it - I have a set waiting for me to pick up in the good 'ol USA. I'll try another HKS element (cos it's cheaper and I've spent a small fortune recently!) and see how it holds up. Right, off to bed, got ma Profec B to fit tomorrow. :-)

Washing HKS induction filter?
Oh ok, fair enough. Thought I'd ask, they're kind of expensive and I know some race teams used to wash foam type filters. :-(

Washing HKS induction filter?
Evening All I have fitted a pair of Apexi dump valves this afternoon and noticed, once the intake T was off, that the pipes going down to the compressors had a thin black residue inside them. The care has an HKS 'mushroom' air filter, which was looking very black and shi**y indeed! What is the best way / best stuff to use to wash one of these things out, if at all? I had noticed a bit of a black residue in the throttle bodies too when I removed the pipes for cleaning, when I was in fact expecting black carbon deposits. I was worried the turbos might be on the way out but I am a bit more relieved now as the same oily stuff is upstream of the turbos too. Cheers, Derek

Install / set up help for Gredy Profec B spec 2
Hi there! Just got a Greddy Profec B spec 2 today, has anyone out there installed one recently? I found just one online guide that is very vague, but I'm guessing you 'T' the wastegate actuator lines and intercooler pressure lines together like with the AVCR, then run the two ends of the 'T' to the valve... Thing is, where is the consensus of where best to put the valve? Is the loom long enough to reach the front bumper? And the loom / boost signal, do you feed them through the bulkhead with the ECU loom? And also, anyone got any benchmark settings for SET, START and GAIN for a car on standard tubs? Looking for about 13psi as a max. Just a rough guideline to shoot at would be useful... Thanks a lot!

Plumbing in Oil Press/fuel pressure gauges
Hi Vijay Thanks for the reply - I have been away working in the USA and have come back laden down with more goodies to bolt on. ;-) Apexi dump valves and Greddy Profec B. Demon Tweeks do elbows just like that - I'll get one! Thanks again, Derek PS What bodykit does your car have? How did they put the ducts on the wheel arch? Arch replacement? V. nice!

Plumbing in Oil Press/fuel pressure gauges
Sorry to bounce this back to the top of the forum, Vijay, you mentioned a 10mm hole on the side of the oil filter mounting. Are we talking about an M10 thread here? Or something with a 10mm hex head? Cos all the gauge senders I have seen are usually 1/8 NPT for pressure applications and 1/8 BSPT for temperature senders. What thread type is it on this hole you mention? Cos the other alternative is a quite expensive sandwich plate with pre-tapped holes for oil pressure / temp senders... Cheers Derek

I've FINALLY paid...
Hi! Finally got round to paying my dues via direct bank transfer today. Well I suppose it was about due since you'd saved me at least a grand in free knowledge and advice! :slap: Cheers Derek Watts

new struts required
I know they're more money, but I have fitted a TEIN flex coilover set on mine, adjustable ride height, pre-load, damping etc and I'm well chuffed with them. They come pre-set from a jig ready to bolt straight on to the 300zx as well, so you don't have to spend hours setting up ride heights etc. They are also ready to accept an in-car adjustable controller for future addition. ;-) A complete set will set you back about £1050 if you buy them here, much less in the USA.

Plumbing in Oil Press/fuel pressure gauges
Thanks chaps... I am thinking of getting the combined SPA oil and fuel pressure gauge, I think I will give the 10mm bolt trick a try. I'm going to be doing an oil change at the same time anyway... What about fuel pressure gauge? Anywhere in particular to plumb it in? I guess it will also need some kind of adaptor making, as once again it is an 1/8 BSP thread.

Plumbing in Oil Press/fuel pressure gauges
Hi all I want to install aftermarket oil and fuel pressure gauges. I saw a nice digital dual display one in the Demon Tweeks catalogue, quite pricey, but the guy on the phone was a total sales prevention officer - was very vague about fitting, just said that they both have 1/8BSP threads on the sensors. How do you normally plumb in an aftermarket oil pressure gauge / sender? Do you need to fit one of those sandwich plates between the filter? And fuel pressure? Thanks! If anyone can recommend another gauge combo that they use I would be pleased to hear... :) Cheers! Derek

Insurance
Oh, by the way it's a 90H plate UK TT manual. Declared mods HKS induction kit and HKS stainless exhaust, and an aftermarket wing. I'll probably tell 'em about the boost control when I fit it too, as the other mods only upped the policy by £50.

Insurance
Just got a mega quote with Elephant this evening online. It was so low I phoned to check, then took it out immediately. It was £465 fully comp with a few declared mods, social use only and 3000 miles a year max, with a CENTRAL LONDON postcode!!! (That's always been the killer before...) Tescos was £1285, who were the cheapest I could find last year for that postcode... Give them a shot, I have saved a small fortune. It's left enough cash to pay for a holiday. Or more mods.... :-) Good luck, Derek

Cobra 6422 Alarm help
Hi there. Yes, I know it's an old, old alarm. But it just died on me and I had to pay some bloke a fairly large wedge of money to come and 'bypass' it (just a pair of wirecutters and about 15 minutes work finding the fuel and ignition cuts). Anyway, does anyone have an old controller box for a Cobra 6422 they want to sell? It was full closure, and I want to use the original window lifters etc. Don't fancy having to pay to have all the old wiring ripped out and starting again...

To dump, or not to dump, that is the question...
Thanks! I just ordered a 300zx kit for Apexi dual chamber BOV's AND a Greddy Profec B Spec 2 boost controller last night for £355 including tax, from a company called Import Nation in Orlando. Going to pick them up from there next month when I fly there. Got to use the weak $ to our advantage while it lasts! :-)

Car tries to veer off road by it's self! Help needed.
I don't have these exact wheels myself but I have the same size in a different make, and my car is similar on an uneven road surface or in a heavily worn motorway lane. Just how bad is it? When you go for wheels upgrades it usually results in increasing the tyre scrub radius and with it the self-aligning torque of the tyre / wheel, so this is normal to a certain extent. Adding spacers I would have thought would make it worse, ignoring all the other arguments against them.

To dump, or not to dump, that is the question...
Ok, good man, will do!

To dump, or not to dump, that is the question...
Hi Chris, yes I am, how much? PS I posted the stock ecu back to you yesterday, you should have received it today. :-) I am very happy with the new ecu, it also cured a dodgy idle, which I wasn't expecting! Also how much for a Profec B spec 2? Thanks! Derek
