Fix my 300, my christmas jobs thread
Hi all, Been building up many jobs on my 300, got a few days to fix them. Problem 1, Noisy belt drive when using heater. New problem I noticed this morning. When I turn the heater system on and it's not on the screen it gets very noisy at this point. I'm guessing something has worked it's way loose but as it's such a pain in the ass place to get to I'd like some heads up on common problems. Picture of offending item Youtube video so you can hear the problem and see which bit is engaged to cause the noise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7npIcQjSkEY Thank you v muchly, more to follow! :)

Windscreen demister is rubbish?
Cheers guys, That link is brilliant Andy. I think I'll buy their usb kit just for now with the datascan and see what it's missing. A guy at work did an electronics degree so I'll try and rope him into doing something lo

Windscreen demister is rubbish?
Woah I see there is diagnostics for everything! Would having conzult or something similar allow me to run ALL the diagnostics for the whole car easily? I'd be interested to know what everything that can be tested is up to, makes we want to write my own even more! Would be pretty handy...

Windscreen demister is rubbish?
That's fantastic Dave I'll play with that on the weekend, and then I'll remove my dash lol. Thanks both of you for your help! (BTW I'm a programmer by trade, was thinking of writing my own conzult but I'm at a bit of a loss on where to start, if either of you know of some resource on how the connection works let me know!) :) Cheers

What a clever car, thanks for that heads up. Best get myself sorted with some conzult or similar setup. Cheers

Windscreen demister is rubbish?
Indeed :( Do you know where abouts I should hunt for that please? I might have a z32 manual around somewhere but I don't think so. Don't fancy removing my dash really lol. I'll try behind the centre console to start.

Windscreen demister is rubbish?
Yeah eventually it softens a bit, not ice, more a bit of a frost. I tried it when I got home. Car warmed up I press the windscreen button next to auto and no air comes out at all, nothing. That was at 26deg with fan speed three. Some warm air did come out from the top of the centre panel vent though... I guess what's happening is it's not redirecting it to the screen properly?

Windscreen demister is rubbish?
Right lets just clear a few things up I'm not using auto, but the windscreen button :) Ice is the problem, not misting up, if i'm in a hurry I use the aircon to clear that The heaters general work very well :) The problem is not the heat, it's a distinct lack of airflow from the top of the dash, i.e. none. There is some (not much) coming from the front exits though as if it's leaking there. I do have a sensor from a heater pipe hanging around in my footwell though that fell out. I meant to upload a photo to see where it had come from :) We shall see, I'm pleased to hear at least that it should be good :)

Windscreen demister is rubbish?
It's just definitely not working, when the car is running tonight and warmed up after i get home before i switch it off I'll pop it on 20 and windscreen (not auto) and see if any air comes out then :) Nice idea about defrosting the rear without using the rear demister. Wonder if you can get a screen with the demister wires like you can for a 240 Jez?? Cheers

Windscreen demister is rubbish?
Hi, Yeah it was a frost. I ended up heating up the cabin to the point the windscreen defrosted that way. Even warmed up an hour later there was little coming out the dash I think... I'll try again tonight. So in summary "yes it should be good" and "no yours appears not to be working" ;)

Windscreen demister is rubbish?
Hi all, First time I've had a frost since getting the car. Thought "Oooh 10 mins with the windscreen on 40 degrees no problem". 20 minutes later nothing has happened, and I've finally realised that hardly anything comes out of the top dash vents when it's on full. There's the normal fan noise but no flow. Are they always like this? or I'm thinking some magic flap motor thing isn't working so my air isn't being directed to my screen... which probably means dashboard out to fix lol. Cheers

Lots of 300 questions...
Yer tried that, still didn't work though :) I will try it again later when I'm driving in case I was having a funny five though, might be the alarm or something. Here's another, these two bits sorta just dropped out when I was chasing a wire, presumably they have a home, where do they go please? I guess the one with the big pipe somehow joins the pipe that heats your feat (or beside your leg rather).

Lots of 300 questions...
Ok next up, any ideas why I get no power to my cigarette lighter, the light doesn't appear to work, and I also have a second blue coloured light (I don't think this works) that's just hidden underneath the centre console and appears to have no purpose? I'll be an expert on these eventually :)

Lots of 300 questions...
I'm a muppet. If you look, the colour of the cable for the handbrake switch, and the brake fluid level warning lead, are both yellow with purple and a silver line. I disconnected (the filthy) brake level switch and problem solved. So I need to fix it from the engine bay end. Yay I can put the interior back together. On to my next job :)

Lots of 300 questions...
Hi all, Getting going doing some more work on the car. The rev speed meter is reading high, the turbo timer doesn't work, and the handbrake light is always on which I want to fix today. I don't think it's low brake fluid, I have disconnected the switch from the lead and it is pemanently earthing (the lead that runs to the switch that is). So that'll be why my handbrake light is always on and turbo timer isn't working then? But the wire runs into a nice protected sheath and into the dash, I've traced it to the centre console and it all looks fine. If my brake fluid was low it wouldn't be earthing it on the other end would it? Sounds like a bizarre system... Any ideas why my turbo timer would be reading high? It might be right, but my dash rev counter reads lower and to my ears sounds the right revs. I'd have thought the rev speed meter would either work or it wouldn't. I'm going to check the wiring into the ECU loom but it's still odd. Also does anyone have some dimensions for an Apexi AVCR please? I want to mount one in the centre console and could do with knowing what space I'll need. Cheers

The new bandit is fuel injected yes, the old one wasn't :) Maybe he means an injector is blocked?

Suzuki Warranty
That doesn't sound right at all? Get onto the Motorcycle news helping hand/advice section and shame them up. So is it still missing now? Had you ridden it in the rain before you put it away? My bandit had these stupid red NGK plug caps that although pucka trapped the rain and then of course I had a 3 cylinder bandit :)

Black ADS 194? Dunball/Puriton Somerset
I have a lardy 2+2 :p I'll check my lights thanks, they are wired as fogs yes but I don't think the switch is on? Hmm... Oh yeah I have a HKS filter, still got cats. 9psi here, 1 bar is 15psi right? Is that with the stock turbos?? Anyway nice to see another one! Yeah it did make me laugh, I keep going out of town that way thinking "Wonder if I'll come up against anything on the dc", well since I've had the car nothing, nada, and then the first time is against another 300 that beats me lol.

Z's dead baby - possible ignition problem?
Hey, Yeah... shame upon shame I had no petrol. The gauge (which was working FINE all last week) displays 1/4 of a tank at all times. I'm amazed how many miles I did between the first splutter the other day and fully running out! Can't believe I minced about checking for a good spark on all the cylinders when I just had to put bloody petrol in it! SHAME Anyway thanks for coming round Greg, much appreciated! Thanks for giving everything a once over as well as pointing out a few things. Top bloke. Oh and we'll have to postpone the beers I owe you till another event now Billing is off. Anyway gonna change the fuel filter tomorrow (hope SWZ have one). Should I be getting any injector cleaner or anything else? It seems to run ok, but it's done 60k now and who knows what crap made it's way past the filter. Anyone else had a dodgy fuel gauge before?

Hello, Just got 'done' down the Dunball straight by a dark Z32 :hyper: Saw it pull up behind me and through my rear tint thought "Is that a Z32, nah can't be" and then it overtook me lol :) My car is stock apart from the exhaust afaik, be interested to know what this one was about and is my exhaust noisey because I can't tell from inside... Cheers
