performance difference
Hey Gavo... seems you are out to annoy some people here mate....you`ve certainly got my heckles rising a bit! Yup, I bought the Zed because it is the fastest, most reliable motor I could find. Drop dead gorgeous, 180(ish)mph flat out. cheap to maintain (for a supercar). Wonderful community of owners (mostly). Most of all, this package is sitting in my warm, dry garage for the relatively small sum of £5K ! What more could you possibly ask? EVER??? It is a special feeling to know that the Vectra V6 struggling to get past you has its pedal to the metal, screaming away, while the turbos on the Zed are just warming up......:D :D :D

Turbo's
Or as was told me by me father: "the man that makes no mistakes does nothing at all" I`m learning daily I tell you (ain`t driven the Zed in frost or snow yet....I got an import auto so I think the old HOLD toggle will be selected.....still brickin` myself though!)

Disgruntled impreza owner wants 300zx
If you ask Jeff at Zedworld, he or his bro will accompany you to inspect your chosen car before you buy. Not much that guy don`t know I can tell ya! zedworld.co.uk (has some good car buying tips) Or speak to Luke at the Zcentre. This man is the reason that I still own my Zed (long story) absolute stunner of a guy. He will tell you what`s what. zcentre.co.uk Those are my two choices, there are many others....I must say that in general the Zed community is a great bunch of people who will go out of their way for you......certainly what I`ve found in my (relatively short) time as a Zed owner

Indeed!!! Helpful advice and constructive criticism is one thing, out and out insulting behaviour is quite another. As a wise man once said "let he who is without sin" ...etc I can tell you, I have had many more daft questions about my Zed. I didn`t even know the turbos were non-sequential until Jeff told me about 7 weeks back:eek:

Disgruntled impreza owner wants 300zx
and the only reason a Zed engine (or more likely the turbos) would have to be rebuilt at 80K is if the car had been hammered for a good part of its life. Mine are at 67K and still performing perfectly:)

Disgruntled impreza owner wants 300zx
I paid 5K for mine and got a 60K car with full service history (both UK and in Japan). Since I bought the car in April, I have spent about 2K on it all told, with about 1K being needed work (60K service and new cat back exhausts). The car has now done about 67K and has never, ever let me down (apart from when I left the rear fogs on all night;) ) I truly believe that the Zed is utterly reliable and would say tish pish to anyone preaching otherwise. Okay, so I`m not a foot to the floor driver but if you want to thrash a car you gotta expect to pay the bills for engine abuse! I looked long and hard for my Zed and took a teccie with me whenever I looked at one. There are (more than) plenty of nails out there and the trick is to be more reflective than enthusiastic when testing. The all over package is of vital importance and if any "reputable" dealer tells you that the car is A1, do not trust them. Chances are they don`t know the internals of a zed from a Kia Pride. Sorry, can`t be more help than that but other guys on the forum are much more up on specific issues than me......they`ve helped me out enough!

Boost gauge
Have a chat with Luke He has "hundreds" of the things lying around and might do you better than £50...possibly:D

Top speed
while I`m here, I was reading the archives yesterday and came across a top speed thread... Was wondering.....whaddya reckon a TT import could do delimited with around 400 bhp ? Also, what would that power do to the 0-60 time? Stock is 5.6 right? So if we are at 5.6 with 280 horses pulling our carriage, what difference does the extra 120 make?

Battery !!!!
Just wanted to remind you guys and gals about the importance of battery checks over winter. Took the car down to Jeff where he fixed a bad injector connection (so good to be running on 6 cylinders again!) but the car was still not happy..... Wednesday morning, came to start her up and got nothing but relay clicks, funky alarm sounds and not much else. Turns out my battery had died overnight....mind you, the new one really seems to be making the injectors happy though! First time the Zed has let me down so be careful folks...winter is a tart....and I ain`t even driven the Zed in snow yet....shi**ing meself about that one!)

200sx?
Loved both my S13 and S14. Felt nippier than the Zed but definately not as fast. More chuckable though and a damn site easier and cheaper to maintain. Flippin good choice of car ! (for me though, the Zed has gotta win..ALWAYS!! (maniacal laugh)

ECU upgrade?
Was down at Jeffs last week and tentatively asked about a chip upgrade. "no probs" says Jeff, "instant 70BHP increase in power". After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I wondered if there are any deleterious effects from the engine suddeny having almost a quarter as much power again as it had before. I have a large bore exhaust (catted) and am about to fit a blitz induction kit. This is most probably fairly standard stuff for a lot of you but it will be the first time I`ve had a mod like this on a car.......worth it? good for the car or bad?

0-60 times.....do they mean pants or what?
Gotta say something about all this 0-60 hokum. Am I right or do I need advising? I have owned a 200sx S13 and S14 before I plumped for the Zed and although the 0-60 times are in the same league, the general performance cannot be sanely compared. 0-60 means toss on the roads as there are very few occaisions when cars are placed side by side with engines raring to go. Even if they were, the very slim difference between say the Zed and the M3 amount to even a useable car length`s difference. In my opinion, it is the torque and power of the car to overtake when at normal driving speed that makes all the difference. The Zed has this power in endless abundance. Let`s not forget that the reason the Zed has a 0-60 time of @5.6 secs is because its top end is knocking on 180mph! It is at speeds of 50-60 + that I think a car`s ability to accelerate comes into its own. Get the Zed to 70+ and you can feel your foot coming off the accelerator as the speedo keeps rising faster and faster. I dunno what you guys and gals think but the very slim difference between 0-60 times in cars like the Zed, S4, Audi TT, etc is really important. On a racetrack perhaps, but not on the jungle of roads in the UK. (says a man just about to stick a new chip in his ECU) Am I right...or not?

Variable Valve timing
Hey folks, 2 little questions...... first, does the engine on your Zed seem happier after 3000 rpm when the variable valve timing kicks in? damn sure mine does AND when (auto stuff) you put the overdrive in, does the engine automatically switch VVT modes? Thanks for any help

What do we think of the zcentre
Bought my Zed in April and since then, have talked to Luke at least once a week. He is one of the most straight up people I have ever come across. Although he can`t get things right absolutely 100% of the time (who can) the effort and commitment he puts in for us Zeddies makes hime my number one first contact point (very closely followed by Jeff at Zedworld who is also a very knowledgeable and helpful bloke)

Insurance...
Try Lifesure in St Neots, Cambs. They were really cheap for me and the policy comes pretty damn loaded too, includes breakdown cover and free rental car hotline service. I`m 30 with 3 yrs no claims and the job lot set me back a shade under £750

Urgent Help Needed!
Feel for you fella. Like you, I`m no expert and rely on making sure the car is well maintained. If it stops working, I`m about as screwed as you. Sure hope all goes well though. As an afterthought, why don`t you call Luke? He seems to work pretty much 7 days. Might be able to help you......

Sills
Anyone ever had a sill replaced on a Z ? Mine look real good as long as you don`t get too close but its only a matter of time. How much moolah am I looking at...any ideas?

Anyone still want a leather interior ??
Love to mate......really love to. Unfortunately, uncle Luke and uncle Jeff are taking quite a bit of moolah off me in the coming fortnight...;) Maybe next time !

Nissan dealers....pah!
Asked for a quotation to be faxed over to the office. Never been done yet but I`ll follow it up. I always usd to work on the assumption that to get a good job done you gota shell out a few extra quid. Was fine with that until I got the Zed. Head teccie at the dealership told me that he had never seen a TT before and was going to have to contact a mate of his at Wolverhampton. WHAT?!?!?! should have realised then huh? Best of all though (this one will make you fall about a bit):D On the job sheet, the b*£$!rds charged me 15 minutes labour for transporting the old oil to their disposal facility! Almost 12 quid for some spotty oik to walk over to the disposal tank and pour my oil in it! HA!
-
Nissan dealers....pah!
They told me that the job involved 72 hours of labour. The bill for that alone was over £5K not including VAT! Nearly messed me pants!

Nissan dealers....pah!
that should be incorrrectly......sorry!

Nissan dealers....pah!
when I first bought the Z I took it to the main dealer nearest to me. told them it was an import 2 weeks before its 60K service. After the car had been with them for TWO hours, I got a call at the office to tell the that "your car is an import, did you know?2 and that the service would cost more due to the increased proce of parts. ended up paying them over £900 for that service, including a new water pump. 12 weeks later, I was driving down to Malvern when I heard the cooling fan going. pulled the car over immediately, opened the hood to the sound of boinilg coolant and smoke emanating from every rubber hose the eye could see. Turned out the incompetent SOB`s had not tightened the main water hoses correctly. However, since I had changed the lube in the intervening period, they claimed it was my inexperience and maltreatment of a "very complex car" Took it back to them to have the problem fixed (I know, I know) and they told me that due to my error, the head gasket had busted. Charged me £400 for replacement of the hoses and handed over a quotation of £6,236 for replacement of the head gaskets. Thank God Luke at the Zcentre and Jeff at Zedworld are straight up and honest, otherwise those assholes would have charged me almost 3 months income for an utterly unnecessary job! NEVER AGAIN!!!! Anyone out there had a similar experience?

A single upgrade
Hey folks THX for the help before. I have more questions though: I have one of Luke`s free flow cat back exhausts fitted and am about to get him to slap a blitz air filter on (as well as geting the speed delimited...finally!) apart from these two considerations, what would be your reccomendation for a next step performance mod. Don`t want to go daft, just don`t know which to do next. Also, have any of you got the urethane replacement suspension bushes fitted? Do they make a difference? Cheers steve:) (91 import auto TT)
