1. Depends how you drive but they are remarkably good on juice for the size and power. Remember they weigh around 2 tons and still out perform alot of cars on the road. My dad had an E38 95 740i for a few years did around 150k in it (bought with 30k on sold with 180k) and it fairly reliably did 24mpg over all those miles at a fast motorway cruise. Pretty good for the type of car. He replaced it with an E65 745i which does 26mpg (probably due to it being 6 speed and alot more modern!) One thing to note though if your fancying one of those, I would watch the early 94/95 ones as they have the earlier 4.0 v8 and can be a bit touchy to fuel grade alot had replacement engines. The later 4.4 was much better and as reliable as the hills. (Having said tht dads was a 4.0 and as i said had done over 180k when it was part x'd against the 745i with not much failing in that time apart from a fuel pump at 160k!)
2. Yeah they are nice, my boss has one which i took out a few months ago. I did quite like it, made an awesome noise and they are great looking cars inside and out. I was a little disapointed with the power though, i really thought it would rip my head of but it just didnt seem that fast weirdly. I'm half tempted to take my zed up to the office so he can have a go in that show him a real car ;) Just a long way up there!
3. Or for 7k more you can actually have a real and currant aston.. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201044372438200/sort/priceasc/usedcars/model/vantage/make/aston_martin/radius/1500/postcode/la29pw/page/1?logcode=p Not a bodykitted supra :S
4. Im going to raise that to at the earliest 1993 as there is an E36 vert in the distance ;)
5. Something around the 3.5k mark so far, but ive got 5k to spend before the end of january. So I'll make an effort to use them if I can afford it LOL
6. Thing is though thats a LWB car, not a slicktop - a massive consideration when comparing the cars. Although I admit that that particular car (despite its awful steering wheel) looks like a bargain on a 98 plate... Thats if it is actually a 98 model car. Cant see much to suggest for or against it, although in the shots with the doors open i would have expected to see the seatbelts against the B pillars but possibly not. Also a black nose badge, later cars have red badges (although that may have reverted bck to black for the 98/99)
7. Have you lot not seen this gem?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xf8G-c_eAhs if no workie!
8. One of my all time dream cars, i couldnt count how many times ive been trhough piston heads and autotrader looking at cerberas, saving pictures and doing insurance quotes. I just couldnt do it to my self, as it would ruin my life. When im earning 50k+ i'll have one... LOL
9. What you want is a real mans car: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201037368180507/sort/pricedesc/usedcars/make/tvr/page/2/radius/1500/postcode/la29pw?logcode=p :D:D:D Although i would actually have a cerbera but thats personal choice. Or if you stretch your budget a little. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201042370879006/sort/priceasc/usedcars/model/m6/make/bmw/radius/1500/page/1/quicksearch/true/postcode/la29pw?logcode=p :D And a little more you could have a new v8 m3... but i would have an M5 or m6 before them.
10. Just to repeat what has already been said. Its quite a strong price for an NA although its desirable being a slicktop. The problem is almost surely the time of year, just before christmas when these are often summer toys it does drive the demand (and therefore price) through the floor. The other issue is that when most people look for a 300zx they buy the cheapest (i.e often autos, lwb etc) normally with poor results but unless they are an enthusiast and are looking for a specific car then they may view yours as poor value without actually knowing more about it. I have thought about selling mine and come up against the same issues, I just dont tihnk it will sell until later on next year so why bother listing it!
11. No its not just you, I keep having thoughts about selling up. ALthough im not sure what I would buy, I would be selling up to sink more into a house. Buying in January/Feb and I just cant decide what to do about my car. Either way I need a car as my van isnt for personal use. So its sell mine for whatever its worth (again hard to value!) and buy something cheaper to buy and to run/insure etc. Or just keep the zed think sod it I've got to have one hobby. I have worked out the finances for the house without selling the car but obviously it would make life easier having the money from it. However, I suppose I wouldnt have that much left after I had bought another car so is it really worth it? Just dont know!
12. Its possible that the car has once had a motorised screen head unit fitted, often people fit switches so that they will only work when the hand brake is ON (so as to stop you watching it as your driving) However if its had a conventional head unit fitted it could be something slightly wrong with the wiring there? Just a guess!
13. Yeah im up for this! Woud be good to catch up with people. One condition though, han wouldnt come I dont think but I'm pretty sure she'll be working. FTW!
14. I saw a black LWB zed today on a J plate. Had 6 pot "lambo" style rear lights a big wing. Was parked infront of a shop I think on the A610, fairly near the city centre.
15. Its a year to the day since I took delivery from the "office" of my daily drive. Here she is! A 2009 Astravan 1.9 CDTI Sportive Collected her with 23 miles on the clock (ex demo im affraid to say!) It now has: 37612 on the clock waheyy a fun year :)
16. Cheap tyres are often a false economy. Especially if you keep the car for a while, you'll find "budget" tyres need replacing far more often than "premium" brands, although I admit they may cost twice as much you may find that your budget tyres need replacing 3 times more often. Also, it shouldnt have to be said but budget tyres on a 300bhp+ RWD car that has no traction control, are you insane? I have falken 452's, I consider those to be at best a medium range tyre and offer a happy medium between pilot sport 2's and kumho ditchfinders. However, as a medium range tyre they are the "lowest" brand I would dream of fitting to a high performance car. Cheapie McCheap tyres should grace, at best a 60bhp saxo otherwise your just asking for trouble. Hell my even diesel astra has mid range bridgestones on it! Is it ever likely so many get crashed each winter!
17. When you say it's poor starting. Is it slow to start so cranks over for a long time? Or just won't turn over in the cold? It's unlikely there is anything serious wrong if it's a case of poor starting. Can u be a bit more specific as to what is wrong or happening?
18. random stalling/poor running could be PTU, but i wouldnt suspect that first. I would check under the carpet on the passenger side where the ecu's are to make sure they are dry weird stuff can happen if they get wet.
19. I have an ebay front mount on mine at the moment that was fitted when i bought the car. Is there an easy way I can check the quality? Or any pressure drop? I have had a boost leak test on the car and it didnt have any leaks. I have always thought that cheap crap cant be good but other than testing on a rolling road there isnt an easy way to tell! I do have a pair of standard SMIC still, is it worth putting those back on?
20. So you'll be starting converting it just after xmas then lol
21. Why not sell your silver TT, buy ANOTHER vert and convert that one then you have both... Or buy a real mans 300zx, i.e mine! ;)
22. As gary said, replacement front bumper. Often done because of a bump but sometimes as people like the look of the TT bumper (or want it to look like a TT, think Saxo 1.1 with a VTR bodykit :) ) Any zed for £1500 is alot of car for the money, however sign of the times, midwaleszx i think it was had an NA manual for £800 - i know which i would rather have. Hell two years ago i sold a Taxed and tested gunmetal grey LWB manual TT for £1570, still makes me sick thinking about it but it had to go as no space on the drive. Thats ebay for you! +1 My thoughts. Certainly not a series 4 which have no boost gauge on a TT.
23. Doesnt look too bad apart from its gash decals. However it is an NA automatic, is that what you want?
24. Just to paint a complete picture. Do you have standard brakes?
25. True true lol, I hadnt used that snip tool before - vista has it as well it seems! Quite useful actually. Alt print screen for me is from help manuals in XP days lol.
