  1. interesting. i will give this a try but before i do it has anyone else tried this and it has worked. I am not keen on disconnecting my battery because i loathe setting up my stereo again everytime!
  2. i need a package collect and delivered to me. does anyone know who is the cheapest and easiest courier company to go with. It is a heavy package (18" alloy wheel) which needs to go from scotland to dorset and i need to have in by friday gaurenteed. It will also be a one of delivery as i will not be opening an account. Please give me your suggestions soon as i need to organise it soon if i want it by friday.
  3. yeah my toad alarm on my old car had the chirp but this cobra one definitely doesnt have it. I remember someone telling me they are trying to phase the chirp out because of new EU noise pollution laws.
  4. yeah the indicators flash but i would prefer an audible sound for when it is bright and you miss the flash or when you are looking the other way. I know i am being fussy but after almost a year of owning the car and coming from a car with a told alarm that did blip, it still annoys me everytime!
  5. good to see there is some interest in this. It seems like there are more electronically capable people on this thread that i will see how they do it first before i attempt it. Another thing that i guess could be easily added if this device was on the blipper command would be to add a 'blipping' noise when the alarm is armed/disarmed because mine doesnt have one (think they stopped doing it because of noise pollution!!! what about the noise pollution when the alarm goes off in error!) and it is annoying when i cant hear the central locking go and have to go back and check, makes the remote pointless.
  6. I did this mod on my old prelude and it was pretty bo shank. When the alarm was locked with the alarm blipper i wired in the folding mirror switch wire to fold in the mirrors and to unfold them when unlocked. Most alarms have wires that give a voltage or ground for an amount of time after the alarm is armed for window lift/total closure so i know this would be possible with my cobra alarm on the zed as this has window lift but i was wondering how the folding mirrors fold and if this would be an easy mod. Has anyone done it on here?
  7. ooohh! where did you get those from??
  8. can you make the gradient a bit more gentle using extra planks of wood and bricks and stuff? If you dont have it done by friday i can try and lend a helping hand when i come and pick up that wheel you said you would very kindly lend me. However, you do really need a safe way of raising the car so you can work underneath. I have some axel stands you can use but unfortunately wont have them with me on friday but coul bring them up the following week when i am off from work.
  9. yeah you will need to get underneath mate. remove the undertray and you will see the bottom bolt of the shroud. If i remeber right this bolt attaches to the metal bottom hose properupper thing which needs to come if you want to remove the rad. You will also be able to detach the bottom part of the shroud from underneath which just unclips. You can also more easily remove the rad bottom hose from underneath and also catch the water. I would say removing the rad is 50% working from the top and 50% from the bottom. PS you can also remove the viscous fan easily (5 bolts i think) to give you a bit more room but watch your nuckles scraping on the rad fins when freeing a stuck bolt!!
  10. the same place as you get hen's teeth and unicorn droppings.....i.e. they are pretty rare mate. sometimes pop up ebay but there is always a lot of interest in them
  11. is this anarchic hells angels type bikers that are causing this fuss or just normal guys who are in a Yamaha owners club like this but just had a falling out? havent heard anything from hells angels for a while but i know that used to be a scary mob. I guess they are all too old and arthritic to ride their choppers around now and had to trade them in for a Hyundai Lantra or something!
  12. when was the change to the newer iron calipers? is there a big difference in performance? are sx owners only after one type? going back to this backplate thing for the s14. is it already attached to z32 rear calipers but redundent?
  13. thanks legrath! do you mean they (both s13 and s14 owners) require both the fronts and rears AND the BMC to do an effective big break conv? what is the backplate and is it essential for the s14 owners?
  14. i know sx owners are sometimes after our calipers for big break conversions but do they also want the rear calipers? i wouldnt have thought so as rear breaks arent that important.
  15. Ok I have found this which is guess is the manual for SPA dual pressure/temperature gauge. I don’t have this but I guess it must come with the kit……. http://www.spa-design.co.uk/DG50%20manual.doc Ok so it says….. “SENSORS FIXING THREADS:- TEMPERATURE: 1/8 NPT or M16x1.5 all 12.7mm long” Looking up the M16x1.5 thread I found this tapping guide…… Metric Tap Drill Chart Tap size M16x1.5 Major Dia (mm) 16.0 Threads per 1.50 Tap Drill (mm) 14.5 Tap Drill (inch) 37/64 Clearance (mm) 18.0 Clearance (inch) 45/64 Does this mean I need to drill the hole out with a 14.5 bit and a get a M16x1.5 tap to tap the hole? Will anyone be kind enough to send me a M16x1.5 tap in the post and I will send it straight back after I do it along with a crisp fiver! my final question is what is the dia for the hole that is already there for the standard temp gauge sender?
  16. sorry to bring this boring thread of mine back from the dead....... Was thinking about the drill and tap route or rethreading the original temp gauge sensor hole like smithy has done. for the drill and tap, is the metal pipe thick enough without a boss to hold the sensor without leaking and hold it in tightly? does anyone know the diameter of a SPA temperature sender and its thread so i know what tap is will need? I guess i will only be able to replace the standard temp gauge sender with the SPA one if the SPA one has the same diameter AND thread or a large diameter so i can drill the hole and rethread??
  17. i will second what jonno said. just picking up the phone to let a customer know what is going on is so valuable when you are in the posession of their pride and joy which they are spending lots of money and require it for transport to live their life.
  18. The guy who runs the site got back to me and says the link is now up and running. http://members.optusnet.com.au/markfield/auxfan.html Sounds dead easy to do (i.e. conecting 1 wire) so i might give it a go. does anyone have any opinions on this apart from that the fan wasnt meant to be used regularly......to which i will say that i hardly ever use the AC as i prefer the feel of the wind in my hair that you only get from an open window!! The fan is also easy to get to so if it died would be easy and hopefully not to expensive to replace.
  19. dan, i need the tension rods by end of next week as i have a week of and going to be giving my car TLC! If the HIDs are not in by then can you send them seperately? please contact me if either the items are likely to arrive later than next thursday because i gave you the delivery address as my work and do i nooooooo want to be coming into work in my week off!
  20. ok i think i will give it a go with some plasticote. Do i need to laquer it? Danny, any news on when you will be getting your stock in for the HIDs and tension roads in ordered from you?
  21. .......with normal Halfords crome paint??
  22. read this on a aussie site on overheating Connect your auxilary sub fan to engage whenever the AC is on (TwinTurbo only) See this tech unfortunately the link doesnt work. has anyone does this? I have noticed with the AC on the radiator water temp does go up 10°C.
  23. i stuck some tin foil on the inside of my headlights when i was pulling them apart to clean and fix the adjusters because i thought it would increase the brightness of the lights. It didnt and it looks garbage, but i do look like the look the lights in crome with the contrast of the red colour of the car (from afar when you cant see it is tin foil) I am getting some HIDs soon and might pull out the foil and the same time. Is it possible to spray the inside of the lights with crome paint? would any spray paint do or will it need to be specialised to deal with the heat from the HIDs and stick to the plastic if it is special heat resitant stuff? seen a couple of threads where people have done it but they have used mega expensive stuff from the states when i just want to get some halfords stuff!
