  1. found the origin of the steam from the rear of my engine back. a leak from the area ringed in green is dribbling down and hitting the turbo outlet just before the lamda sensor. Cant see which one of the 2 hoses it is because they are in an awkward crevice. Is it likely that i have a split in one of the hoses or just need a jubille clip to tighten it up. They may have got knocked when my O2 sensors were fitted a while ago. What are these hoses and what do they carry and from where to where? what are the code for these hoses on the courtesy parts catalogue below?
  2. there is a big thick wire attached directly to it for the ground. Cant remember the other connector but that will contain the +ve
  3. nevermind. met some dodgy polish guys last night who reckoned they could get me a set for about £200-£300 from some warehouse in Slough!
  4. James, there was always a black M6 parked round the corner from Chiswick Park station on Acton lane. Between the station and Murco. Havent seen it for a while but it was a beaut. There is a red mustang parked round there from time to time now.
  5. i think so. Did really get much of a look as i was being persued by a XK8! I love the A338! i dont bother with the M27 anymore.
  6. dont know how long this will stick around as these guys arent registered traders but i have had a good experience with them that i thought i would innocently share on here. I am not in the pay of these guys and recieved no discount for doing this, their business also does not clash with any of the registered traders on here so i hope there wont be a problem............ http://www.alloywheelrepairs.net I had a little spin a while ago where i cracked one of my rear alloys into a kerb and obviously hit the front one aswell. The lightweight italian alloy didnt cope too well! The rear had a big chunk smashed out of it about 3 or 4 inches long and was badly buckled. The front was also buckled but showed no visable damage. The suspension was also a bit bent but that has all been fixed. They are mille miglia 18" alloys which i reckon look really good on my zed and impossible to find from new as the company went bust in 2001. I sent the rear with the piece missing up to this place in scotland (use http://www.interparcel.com and postage of a whole alloy is suprisingly cheap) and they welded a piece back in to a standard where you cannot now see the join. They also removed the buckle and shot blasted and powder coated the wheel to a better standard than any of the mobile or small time wheel refurbs. The front wheel was then sent after i noticed a very bad vibration from 50mph. Apparently this wheel was even more badly buckled than the first. The buckle was removed and also blasted and powder coated. These guys are brilliant metal workers and that is slightly reflected in the price and the time it takes to be done due to the demand on their time. But it is like a mixture of stella and guiness - reassuringly expensive and the best things happen to those who waited (or was that Heinz ketchup?). There was only one other place i found that actuallly REPAIRED badly damaged wheels which was in leicester and i found them very unhelpful when i phoned for a quote. I am so glad that I got the wheels repaired rather than staying with the cheap option of std alloys or getting a different set of alloys that i didnt like as much (i was offered a really cheap set of antera alloys that i didnt fancy as much). Now i have them back my car is a joy to look at!
  7. anyone know whether they would fit a zed? they are 5 stud. They are my fave alloy around at the moment and reckon they would look ace on a black zed 19" with low prof tyres, drilled discs and painted calipers.....lush!
  8. Was going down the A338 from Salisbury on sat afternoon and there was a red one parked very near the road in one of the villages the road goes through between Downton and Fordingbridge. Might have been Breamore.
  9. i have the same ones from DTA. I burrowed a snug little hole for them behind the headlights by pushing wires and hoses out of the way and lobbed them in there. seems to be fine there. think installing them underneath the headlights would be tricky
  10. no for the fuel tank. Like i said in the first post they were a typical london garage in that they want you in and out as quick as possible. That is why they only adjusted the front camber "within the parameters" rather than getting it to dead zero like i wanted. For the castor i installed the tension rods myself and tried to set them to the length of the rods that were already on there. For the castor they extended the tension rods as long as possible to get the above readings (i.e. pushing the wheels towards the rear) I think that was reducing the castor towards zero but +5 is as low as they could get. can someone tell me weather the longer the tension rod the higher the castor above 0 or is it the other way round? Is +10degrees the ideal for the castor?
  11. sexy beast is one of my favourite ever films! if you could get any signed promo from that i would be made up.
  12. Wow you guys really seem to know your stuff! I guess as a greedy person i would want good road handling without excessive tyre wear. I will see how the current setting feel and how the tyres wear. what i am most concerned about is extreme inner edge scrub which i have experienced on older tyres before the new settings. I have now uploaded the settings below. Will these settings cause me these problems and is the +5degree toe at the front an issue?
  13. yeah hellraiser i asked you about christchurch tyres in a pm. i will keep an eye on how the wear goes and the handling then maybe take it up to hemel or xchurch. danny, are you or smithy aware of any cases where the powertrix adjustable rods werent able to be adjusted long enough to give zero castor?
  14. thanks danny. I ended up going to a different local place to get it done. Same old story with this being london. Had all the equipment with the Hunter Laser system but a young polish guy running it who didnt grasp much english and the head honcho a older cockney guy who did want cars blocking up his ramps and wasnt prepared to take time doing anything other than "get it within the parameters"......god i hate going to london garages! I have got the print out but cant scan it until work on monday. The rear toe looks ok and it is now running -1.19degrees and -1.38degrees camber at the rear. at the front -1.30degrees and -1.42 degrees camber and toe is fine. They changed the castor with the adj tension rods when i showed them but they could only get it to +5.41degrees and +5.20degrees castor. this was with the adj rods extended as far as they could but they didnt seem wound out that far. maybe 2 inchs. Is this expected on our cars? Will these settings cause me any problems? i am quite worried about inner tread scrub as that happened before on the old suspension settings, old wheels, non-adj tension rods.
  15. I am going to get my tracking done this afternoon after installing the new adjustable tension rods and fiddling about with the height of the coilovers. There is a garage near me that i have used before with the Hunter Laser 4 wheel tracking equipment. The trouble is that when I have been to have my tracking done before they always seem to say the little caveat of, “we can only return the settings to standard”. I am not sure what exactly this means when the suspension is not the same as standard (bigger alloys, lowered suspension, adjustable camber and adjustable tension rods for the castor) as will they put the settings as they would be if it rolled out the factory with the standard stuff and thus mean the wheels will actually be well out with the aftermarket stuff? Or do they just return the actual deflections of the actual wheels back to standard (ie dead straight, 0° camber, toe, castor) and wont be able to add neg camber if I asked for it? Obviously I want the second option or getting the tracking done will be completely pointless so is going to get is done a pointless exercise? The other question is with this limitation of “only returning to standard” affect the items that they will actually adjust? I guess the computer system will show them where the adjustment bolts are located but if I have adjustable camber arms and adjustable tension rods it would be far more effective to adjust them wouldn’t it?
  16. Has anyone in london or towards dorset got a coolant system compression tester that i could use. One of the ones which is like a hand pump going through a cap that goes where the rad cap goes i.e. must have the connection to fit a zed rad? Thanks Tom
  17. I guess that could be down to inaccuracy in the speedo with different size wheels / tyre profile, and it could actually be a true speed of 114mph. Either that or it could be the confusion of looking down at a new speedo whilst trying to control a car at 100+mph without getting nabbed!
  18. I am happy to report that Stevie's method has worked for me. I had an issue yesterday with my home computer timing out before i got to work and was able to connect. Maybe when the screensaver / Low-power thing cuts in. I solved it today by putting the kitchen timer on the mouse pad set to half way through how long the journey takes from home to work so it would go off and stop it going into screensaver. Dont know why Stevie doesnt want to mention it on here as it seems 100% legal but PM him if you want more details. I might even indulge myself in a game of Football Manager if i get really bored at work today!
  19. I think you are spot on. everyone is so quick to jump on the national service / corporal punishment bandwagon but that is the easy answer and will it actually work?? What i was saying is that my mini generation that is between that of my parents generation who got the cane and the generation where it appears that the apple has gone rotten. Apart from the inevitable evil renegades like the kids that killed little James Bulger and maybe even stretched as far as the Damillola Taylor killers i think my generation has been ok without causing the chaos of todays young and we didnt have the cane. There must be another reason why the younger generation have suddenly exploded into this vehmently vicious and uncontrollable force. I would not have been at all happy at having to do national service if it delayed my education or my career, caused me to mix with unruley elements and forced me to do something against my believes for no real need (are we ever going to be in situation we were have to conscript?).
  20. Ok, here are the settings from my Profec B spec 2, to achieve 9psi in LO and 14psi in HI, on stock turbos:- LO:- SET=16%, GAIN=18%, SETGAIN=48, WARNING=110 with a drop of 20% HI:- SET=33%, GAIN=21%, SETGAIN=85, WARNING=155 with a drop of 20% The boost signal is tee'd in from the right hand side of the plenum balance tube. Also I have a dual friction clutch which seems to be able to handle it.
  21. I dont know where it has gone wrong. I am a relative young'un at 26 and left school in 2001 i also have a sister who is 5 years younger and neither me or her or anyone she knew behaved like kids do today. Went to a normal comp, maybe not a tough inner city one but there were still deprived areas in the catchment. So whatever it is it has almost happened over night. It cant be put down to bad school dinners (f off jamie oliver), lack of afterschool activeness, junk food, violent cartoons, computer games. The only major new things that have become really popular and widespread since i was at school are mobile phones, high speed internet, ipods, online gaming and freeview/sky digital tv. So if it is not a conglomeration of these causing it by giving kids more freedom and access to things their parents wouldnt want them to see it can only be down to the influence of the labour government and law changes they have brought in. saying it is the parents fault is the easy way out but parents are parents and havent changed the way they parent but not seem to not be able to control their kids anymore.
  22. we have got a firewall at work that blocks certain websites. It blocked the obvious stuff; porn, gambling, downloading, etc but it has started to block other things like youtube, the facebook, myspace, all internet radio, etc. We used to be able to get passed it by using http://www.cooltunnel.com but that also got blocked. I understand cooltunnel is known as an anonimyser so i searched for more on google (thankfully not blocked....yet!) and all ones i found were called 'proxy' something or other and were all blocked presumably because everything with proxy in the webaddress is assumed to be a anonimiser. Does anyone know of any similar sites like cooltunnel that can get me into youtube etc. Obviously it is a bit tight of them blocking all these. Cant see the problem if you are looking in your lunch break etc and i think one of the trade unions advised companies that workers should be able to look at the facebook in their lunchtime.
  23. in the words of borat, WAWAWEEWARRR! Excuse my ignorance but what is it? What ever it is it has taken the place of the masserati GT on my computer desktop!
  24. Thanks all and biggg love hitting right back at ya! Been pickling my liver in ethanol the past few days so this week at work aint going to be too clever!
  25. it wasnt like the guy just got shot out of the blue, he ignored their order to stop running away several times and if you look at their training if someone is running away and ignoring your orders he becomes a legitimate target. They knew about this brazilian guy before the shooting. Had him picked up and followed on CCTV, profile and background checked out on police and MI5 computers etc and he still remained under suspicion. They knew exactly who he was, he wasnt some random guy. why was he picked out by the cameras initially? because he looked foreign? Probably, but you have to remember what the tension in london was like at the time. On a day when people are planting bombs on tubes and buses in repeat of events 2 weeks previous i am glad the ARUs can react on their instincts instead of having to get written confirmation with 3 signatures, one from the PM, one from the Queen, be passed through the house of commons etc because it doesnt take long to press a button or pull a trigger and kill innocent people.
