  1. Just after some advice from people who have painted their timing covers. I will be using heat proof paint. Did you prime them first, what is the best way to get rid of the little scratches in the platic, lastly what's the best way to fill in the factory mounting holes for the PTU? & while I have your attention, what's the easiest way to smooth (not polish) the plenum. I was just going to sand it by hand, is there a better method? Thanks in advance, Jono
  2. I totally agree, which is why I posted the link :)
  3. Here's the link if you're interested: http://www.ttzd.com/tech/timingtech.html
  4. A stock Zed's base timing is 15 degrees. Increase the timing will give you more power. There's a good write up @ twinturbo.net. I currently have mine set to 18, but you can set it into the 20's (depending).
  5. One other thing, if it hasn't already been done. Advance your base timing ;)
  6. AS others have already mentioned, light underdrive pulley will let the engine rev out a lot quicker. You say you have exhaust already, is that a full exhaust (dumps)? I know how you feel, I'm getting hi-flowed turbo's fitted soon. Then later on 555s, larger SMIC's & aftermarket ECU, & probably fuel pressure regulator.
  7. I wish I had a daily bomb, but the TT Zed has been my daily for over two years now. I plan on getting a sh!tter to get me to work and back soon. I've just organised a week off work, going to see if a engine pull & new turbo's can be done in that time!
  8. I have 235x19x35 front, & 265x19x30 rear. I'm lowered 1" or more all round too ;)
  9. Not sure about offset, but I know first hand that 285's will fit under the rear gaurds. It all depends whether you have HICAS connected on not? Currently I have 9.5" wide rims with 265 tyres on the rear... no problems... no modifications.
  10. So is it just the fact that installing the cats again generates enough back pressure to stop the smoking?
  11. Sorry bud, Yeah I was talking about the valve stem seals. Like I said in an earlier post, my cars doing a similar thing, except that it smokes heavily at idle from time to time. Then it doesn't smoke at all for a few days. I'm also de-catted (I'm more a dog person anyway) & I think it's my passenger side turbo seal. I have decided that I'll have the turbo's hi-flowed.
  12. Helps release heat, but the main reason I went for this style is that water can't get to anything important. When it is raining the water runs over the top of the radiator (bonus). I didn't bother attaching the rubber seal (above battery) onto the bonnet, which also lets a lot of heat out.
  13. Thanks Cindy, you're welcome to a ride anytime. I can take you for a spin in the Zed too if you're interested? ;)
  14. Hey, I was here first Cindy! LOL
  15. Sounds like there is a strong possibility that it's a leaking stem seal. Just keep an eye on it for the time being. The smoke will worsen over time, making it easier to diagnose. Is the smoke coming from both exhausts, or only one side???
  16. Wow, thanks for the warm welcome people! A friend of mine, who's a professional photographer, took some snaps of my Zed last night. I can't wait to see how they turned out. I'll be sure to post them up when I do. Thanks for all the compliments, but seriously... you can't beat a Zed for looks now can you?
  17. Do you know anyone who has a cable you could borrow? At least this way you can eliminate whether is a faulty cable, or something to do with the software. You do need your Zed running when you try to connect datascan to your ECU. Lastly, if you're still having no luck. Uninstall it from your laptop, and install again. You may have done something wrong when installing it the first time. Good luck.
  18. G'day, First off I'd like to say that I love the look of your forum. I live in Australia & I hope our national 300ZX forum (aus300zx.com) will be setup in a similar way soon. A little about me. My name is Jono, I'm 25 & live in a part of Australia called Tasmania. I've owned a '89 J-SPEC, 2+2, twin turbo, targa top for 3 years now. I bought it mechanically stock as a rock. It came with a few cosmetic upgrades though, such as a full respray from black to white (bit of a Michael Jackson transformation LOL), and lastly a Abflug front bar, & rear wing. In the 3 years I've owned it, it has soaked up nearly every last dollar I have earnt. Here are a few pics: BTW: Rob, the wheels are Envy by HP Design (19x8.5" / 19x9.5")
  19. Don't jump the gun! It could also be your stem seal(s) are leaking. I now that normally if it's stem seals its on start up & clears, but normally if it's your turbo seal the smoke it thick & white. This is a comon problem as we all know, mine has just started doing the same thing! One thing I have noticed is, it will smoke a lot more if I'm going down hill. This the same for you?
  20. Thank you, I probably should have introduced myself. You guy's have a great looking forum here, I might pop in from time to time to say hello. Browsing threw the photo's section I can see there is a lot of very tasteful Zeds here!
  21. 99 isn't too bad, I have to admit I hate the standard wrap around rear wing (what ever year that was). But personally I prefere to go with something a little less common :) Sorry, the pic is a little sh!t.
