  2. Hi, I used to be subscribed but I let it lapse as i have not used the forum much over the last couple of years. To resubscribe do I need to pay the £15 or £20? Thanks Barry
  3. cd changer model is: Sony CDX-5n51w both ends of the din cable are 5 pin going into the changer & the stereo...
  4. The separate head for controlling the CD changer is a Sony Head, the radio/stereo is a "National". There is a 5pin round DIN lead that connects into the CD changer & into the back of the stereo... Thanks Barry
  5. Just got the model sony CDX-5n51w but there is not much on it in google, suspect it maybe a japanese model only? is there some specific site where i might find out what new heads support it?
  6. I have a cassette/radio stereo (came with the car: National RM-7400) and a separate Sony 10 disc CD changer system. The volume for the CD system is controlled through the radio/stereo. I think it is an original Japanese radio as you cannot get many stations (never been a problem as i always listen to CDs). Radio has stopped working & CD volume is stuck loud! Taken the units out, radio has a fuse in back but that is ok, all leads look ok, so i suppose the radio is dead. I haven't got a lot of money but need to get something sorted. I have wired in a basic cd player/radio into a car before but I have no experience with one unit using the other.. Anyone have some info or a link about this. Can you do this sort of thing with any new stereo? Cheers Barry
  7. Hi, Got an electrical fault - need some help on. Lost aircon & aircon display, wipers & clock. Its not the fuses & checked aircon relay. Checked connectors behind switch panel on left hand pod. I have had it go before - messed around in the engine bay & somehow got it working again (but not sure what it was i did & cannot seem to replicate fix this time) So suspect it is a loose connection or shorting out etc.. Anyone know what else i can try or where to look or narrow it down.. Aircon fuse in engine bay has no power to it when i put a multimeter on it (with aircon switched on).. Any ideas? I hate this fault as it stop me driving the thing - with no wipers in this weather..
  8. I had the clock fixed - that was working fine... It is strange that they have all gone together - must be a power feed?? The garage claimed it was the switch plate on the dash pod but surely this would not effect the clock? Thought i might take the switch plate off the pod & have a look behind - but not hopeful... Maybe the garage just nudged a faulty connection whilst trying to find the fault??
  9. I have no aircon, front/rear wipers or clock at the mo (http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=70067&highlight=electrics+problem ), dave saw my post & told me he had the same problem when he removed this wire form the footwell fuse box (see pic) - all worked ok when he put it back in! Is this some sort of bypass/fix, I am wondering whether i should try it... Though looking at the jap fuse box spec http://www.300zx.co.uk/tech/fuse-translation.jpg I am not sure why this would work and effect air con & wipres! Any thoughts?? Cheers Barry
  10. I have my no air con, wipers, clock problem again (see: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=70067&highlight=electrics+problem  Garage tried to trace problem & told me if was the switches on dash control pod & they replaced the front switch plate on the pod. Anyway i have the problem again all of a sudden after about 1 month! Thought it maybe worth taking the pod front plate off & checking connections etc... Anyone know how to take the front switch plate off the dash pod? Cheers Barry
  11. Is £120 approx the price from nissan new? Thanks for the info! Barry
  12. Is a series 2 PTU fine for a Jap NA? Do nissian even sell series 1 PTU's anymore... i.e. do i need to ask for a series 2 ptu (do they cost more than series 1?) Have a feeling my car will need one when the garage gets back to me... Cheers Barry...
  13. Been having a load of problems (see other thread) I decided to call it a day & got my roadside assist to have ago & recover it to a garage. Whilst i was at work the chap managed to start it by playing around with the autobox gear stick - over the phone he said it was running ok... When i got home it started ok but it is running lumpy & shaking the car abit, dosent sound right (this mean its not firing on all cylinders?) - certainly not running ok (I drove it around our village green slowly). Is it safe to drive it to the garage, ie will i cause any harm to it by driving it 20-30 mins to the garage? The chap at the garage - over the phone thinks the PTU has gone/almost gone (also had some poor acceleration/hesitation problems under 2500rpm for several months..).. Thanks Barry
  14. Pretty sure that wire was just taped up & its not the cause of my problem. I still have my starting problem after doing my best to check all the relays & connectors are in firmly in the fuse box. Is there an easy way to check the fuel pump & fuel pump relay are working ok?? The green relay seems to be firmly connected... Thanks Barry
  15. Thought i would have another go at the electrics this weekend. Fortunately before i started i took some pics in case anything went wrong or i could not remember where stuff went  I went back in to day and spotted a loose wire - shown in pics - i think it was just taped up - but it was close to the fuel pump relay!?! Does anyone else have this wire - should it be connected to something? its a spur of the main plastic connector... Cheers Barry
  16. When you say relay, do you mean one of the 2 large blue relays on the back of the fuse box - or are there some others behind it? - it was hard to see behind it... Cheers Barry
  17. Well after quite a while of fiddling around with my head in the drivers footwell, i got the fuse box partially off (what a bugger!) - enough to get my hand behind & push both the blue relays in hard to make sure they were not loose. Anyway it did not solve the problem - they did not feel loose :( To make things worse I have caused another problem car will not start. First couple of times it started but engine note was wrong & sounded like it maybe was not firing properly?? After a couple of times now it will not start up at all. Battery is ok - powers radio ok. Ignition turns over ok but does not fire up. Made sure all connectors are back in the fuse box, suppose I must have upset something... No car to drive to work in tomorrow now :headvswal Barry
  18. Looked into it some more - several lots of electrics are not working - all the time now! Looking at the fuse box translation they appear to be on different circuits too: front wipers not working rear wipers not working aircon/console not working blower not working clock not working everything else is ok - lights, radio, hazards, car drives as normal, etc Checked all the fuses in drivers footwell - all fine! Is there some main feed to the fuse box that may have come loose? Cant be a earth strap problem if everthing else is working ok? Anyone got some ideas? Thanks Barry
  19. Out of the blue noticed air con console, clock & front wipers not working - no display on clock or air con console. Thought fuse must have blown, checked it & its ok. Started the car up again & all was working - so just thought just bad connection maybe on fuse... Now I have found they are working intermitantly - sometimes i turn the ignition on & they work, sometimes not... The front wipers are the main problem - if it rains i am buggered  Anyone got any ideas...? Thanks Barry
  20. ok, after looking at an actual wheel I see what you mean about the rotation & scooping air in to cool the brakes I assume... Still need to know if there is any difference between front & back wheels on one side... Cheers Barry
  21. ok, just looked at the inside - behind a load of dirt they say 16x7 1/2 - so they are jap wheels (the new set i have bought). So on a jap car is there any difference on front vs back wheels on one side? It must because its late & I am tired but I am not spotting the difference on your pic :headvswal regards the cut outs in the alloys & the rotation... Thanks for all your help.. Barry
  22. Where am i ment to be looking on the alloy for 7.5J - just looked at 2 but did not see it (or similar) they have a code 40P00 R for instance stamped on the outside... What am i specifically ment to be noticing in the picture regards your wheels? Cheers Barry
  23. So is that R for drivers side wheels? Its a jap NA and currently has 3 X L P05's & 1 x R P00 !! Though I have bought another set of alloys in better condition & was wondering what to stick on the back as I have to change both the back tyres... I have 225 rubber on all sides too - is that correct ? thanks Barry
  24. Hi, I remember reading that stock alloys should be fitted on the correct side per the code on the alloy. Can someone refresh my memory has to how that works... I have several alloys of L P00, L P05, R P00 and R P05's Thanks Barry
  25. what would stop it getting enough fuel when cold?? Cheers Barry
