  1. Hello. how long will it take to be subscribed again please?
  2. Ok here's the latest plan.... been offered a nice 6.3 stroker bottom end, full balance etc. Decided I don't want to keep the car, want to build something else. So, when my subscribed status is re-instated I'll put full set of pics up in the for sale section with the full spec. as it was before the blow up. Then see if anyone wants to own the beast, at the right price of course! Fully rebuilt naturally. Then if no-one's interested or it's not financially beneficial from my point of view I'll break it. Watch this space. Oh, thanks for the kind replies, almost feel too embarrassed to break it. Keith.
  3. Znut, yes I was on the V8 owners forum for years but never re-registered till lately. Strange I never got one reply on the knocking noise post, not even a hello. Much more friendly on here. Big block? hmmmm, bit too much in a zed I think. If I had some serious cash I'd put the LS7 engine in, but there's no money left in the pot now. PS don't panic, all dibs will be noted in order.
  4. just renewed via Paypal. This is the 1st time I've bought anything with paypal so could you let me know if it hasn't come thro or if there's a problem? Cheers, Keith.
  5. Lamp Shader - yes this is the digital dash one. Ed - yes I could rebuild the engine - again - but this is the third blow up. One was my fault, the other 2 are mysteries. Can't keep on going like this. Pete - noted. Andy - cant give a price till my re-subscription cheque arrives. I reckon I could get between £7-8k if I stripped it. There's some tasty bits on there, although half of them are no use to a 300zx owner. The engine damage runs to about £800 for the bits.
  6. Can I just say also that the end of my first post doesn't make any sense now it's been edited so I'll get busy with the old cheque book for my yearly renewal and then finish the paragraph off properly.
  7. Hello, yes it is. I'm just up the road in Allestree.
  8. Sorry but I was subscribed last time I looked!! Sorry all I'll continue this when my subscription gets renewed. By the way how do people know when their subscription is due? Do they get a warning or does it just run out?
  9. Was giving it a bit of thrash, not too much, when it started puffing a bit of white smoke out the back. drove home carefully and took a rocker cover off. There was a lot of oil emulsion around so I assumed a head gasket had gone. Strange cos they're good gaskets, anyway, whipped the heads off and there's a cracked piston and a 2" long split in the cylinder wall! So with this being the latest in a succession of engine disasters over the last 6 years I've decided reluctantly to call it a day with building cars. So, the main reason for this post is to work out the best thing to do with the car. Obviously most of the running gear will be no use to anyone on here, so will end up on ebay, but the shell is a bit of a problem. It is far too good to scrap, when I got it I got the boroscope from work and looked in the sill cavities etc and it was perfect (fresh import) and then it got a complete wax injection.
  10. Good luck Daz. Hope you get back into the modding/transplanted thing once you get settled.
  11. Let us know when you find it 'cos mine does the same, although only occasionally.
  12. As above, there are a few of us who are doing/have done it. From my point of view it's been a bit of a slog and I'm not quite there yet. If you can't do the work yourself then I'd say it would be a non starter unless you've got a LOT of cash, and from what I've seen of 'professional' engine swaps they generally leave a lot to be desired. I don't think they are all not capable of doing a decent job, but the hours needed to do the job properly on something quite complex, such as the Zed, doesn't make financial sense. If you've got the money for a decent v8 with a proper drivetrain to match, and pay someone reliable to fit it properly, then I'd say you'd be better off spending it on a nice newer performance car.
  13. Daz, if you're thinking of making the exhaust I've got a nice silencer box in stainless off the Granada which didn't fit the Zed if it's any use? 2.5" inlet/outlet
  14. Thanks everyone. Yeah I am chuffed but more amazed that it actually started! When you think of all the potential pitfalls and room for errors along the way it could just as easily have blown up rather than started at all. Left a plug out on the first start and ended up with half a gallon of mobil1 on the floor!
  15. Hmmmm.. looks like you were right. Bonnet about 1/2" open. Resting on supercharger pipe, at mid join, and top of the throttle body. There's a rib running across bonnet touching both. Going to try chopping some out of that. Got engine running tonight. Won't idle below 3000 with guesstimate map in, but at least it started. Sounds blinkin' awesome!
  16. Still of the Night. My best track ever.
  17. My first thought was to have an intake from the wheelarch but after taking the liner out and having a look I decided to try it without first. Maybe one way would be to have the intake on the side of the wing and pipe it thro the arch space, into the filter. Would really prefer not to cut any holes anywhere at all really.
  18. Oh, and air feed to filter. Am going to try it without first and see what the air temps are. May end up boxing the filter in and getting cold air feed to it from somewhere. Be a shame to cut a big hole in the bonnet, and probably wouldn't get air to go in anyway without a great big scoop.
  19. Not sure how much it cost. Have had some bits for a while going back to the first car this engine was in. I suppose if I bought all the bits today to do the conversion like this, including the digital dash, then it would be about 15k for the bits. Am hoping the bonnet will shut! Not tried it yet. Will be a bit of a setback if it don't. Not sure on bhp either but would be a bit dissapointed if it doesn't hit 500. Don't want to go mad tho' am more interested in torque and driveability.
  20. Well, after months more work than anticipated, fitting the efi system, twin fuel pumps, Emerald K3 ecu, redesigning the exhaust, supercharger, water injection system, etc....... I'm almost there. Just got to bang a few numbers in the ecu and see if it'll start. Decided to ditch the dizzy and go to coil packs which will be a first for me. So many wires!! The Emerald ecu can store 3 maps which can be switched whilst on the move, so I've set map no.1 to be a normal tootling around town map, and map 2 to have more ignition timing when under boost. The engine would probably melt running map 2 at full boost so I've fitted an Aquamist water injection system to prevent detonation. The system includes a water flow meter which detects when water is actually flowing and then sends a signal to the ecu to switch to map 2. So in theory if it runs out of water, or the nozzle blocks etc. then it should revert back to non-blowup map 1. It all works in the garage anyway, but not had the engine running yet. Might try later today if enough time.
  21. Dunno, I made them. would be a lot cheaper/easier to have made them in mild steel instead of stainless. The actual mounts are only 6 quid each.
  22. I used the original Nissan mounts on the Chevy engine but when I pulled it after about 1000 miles the passenger side one was split in two. Seemed ok when I put the engine in but will never know now. I'm going to try these which are Range Rover mounts in a stainless cage to limit the movement if the mount lets go. We tested some rubber mounts to destruction at work and they should handle 500ftlbs easy. The red rubber washer is to cushion the movement if the rubber does split.
  23. mgh297, just out of interest what's that space saver wheel, is it a nissan wheel or an aftermarket piece? How much does the wheel and tyre weigh please?
  24. John, is that the k3 version of the emerald? If so are you going to use the multiple map facility? Looking good by the way.
  25. Sorry it's just clicked. You want the engine not the car?
