To check them propperly you need to take the arms off and then check the ball joints, if you still have the arms on then you have tension on them and you can't see if they are truely buggerd. Even if you have the elimination kit fitted you still need good ball joints.

Can I add to that, If you have hicas check the outer ball joints, if they are knackered your rear wheels will do what they want.

With far too many folks leaving the road and smashing their cars you had all better take it easy through the winter, I don't and I'm sure nobody else wants anyone hurt or worse. With the latest being Uno and a damn nice car, I think that I have to say that everyone slow down. I myself left the road a couple of months ago and smashed my rear suspension up, I had to change the subframe and while I did it I changed over to poly bushes. Now this is a long winded but not hard job and would cost a couple of hundred quid because I changed the hicas joints at the same time and I will be eliminating soon. This done I have noticed that the rear of the car does not, let me repeat that, does not step out as it used to, thats not to say it wont but my point is that it hasn't caught me out yet and believe me I have tried to slide it. So to sum up, my point is make sure you have the back of the car looked at and if need be sorted out. Spend a couple of hundred on that and save a couple of thou in the long run.
