I'm having my engine rebuilt in the new year and was just going through the ride section and see that Smithy has got 'N/A oil squirters' fitted.

I'm guessing that the twin turbo has these already and that they squirt oil onto the piston somehow, is that correct? If so what is the advantages of fitting the N/A squirters?

I'm going for forged pistons in my rebuild would it be worth getting these as well?

Thanks.

You wopuld only fit them with forged pistons mate.

N/A and TT squirters are slightly different in relation to the direction the oil is squirted :)

Cheers

I forgot all bout squirters when mine was rebuilt, whats the difference in direction then? is there a different spray pattern?

haha dont worry tt's do have them but they squirt in a different direction or pattern im waiting for an answer.

So is it recommened to buy a set of N/A squirtes for the rebuild with the forged pistons? Where would be the place to get these from?

Thanks

Ant

For how much they cost mate, it's worth doing. I bought mine from the US.

I believe Z1 are offering great deals on OEM parts.

Yes all zeds have squirters, the N/A sprays differently to TT ones and it's just a nice little upgrade to provide better lubing/cooling of yer pistons.

Seeing as you kinda depend on the squirters working, i thought why not get new and better.....

No expenses spared on this Zed :D

Nowt is gonna happen if you don't do it, so don't panic, lol

Why didn't Nissan just fit NA squirters on both DE and DETT engines? Baffles me that something considered an upgrade was fitted to a lower output engine.

It's to do with a difference in the pistons themselves mate. I done this around 7 years ago now so it's hard to remember. If someone has a pic of N/A pistons and TT pistons to show the difference it might remind me lol Unless Peter Rosenberg is still around as he'd spend all night explaining it in great detail ;)

which apparently he is... someone's just had an engine built by him - in the newbie forum today!

Yep, stock TT pistons have a small hole that is used as a cooling channel for the oil in the bottom inside edge of the piston where the oil is squirted at.

NA pistons and Forged pistons do not. Instead the NA squirters point at the center of the piston, and so the forged pistons can benefit from this also as they dont make best use of the TT squirters without the cooling channel.

I read it that he had rebuild years ago by him and has only just arrived on the forum, but I could be wrong!

Thank fook someone knew the full reasoning behind it, :smash: from all those years ago it's not kinda something i've thought about since :D

THanks Dave ;)

Its gunna keep me awake at night now :( knowing my pistons arnt getting squirted at the centre :(

oh dear! Am i going to have problems then?

Are you saying you have no squirters at all ! or that you have got the standard set fitted. If you have none at all then 'yes' you will eventually have problems, notably a lower oil pressure as there would be no restriction to the oilway where they are normally fitted.

I really do have a dirty mind, was suprised to find this in the help section

Ahhh engine squirters :D

There is quite a bit of info on google if you search for squirters :D

LOL you forgot to add the NWS bit ;)

Not that I would be gullable enough to search for squirters at work without turning on the adult filter first :)

I have the standard TT squirters just not the NA ones

Hopefully i wont have any problems i hope :o

Don't worry mate, i've not heard of any problems caused by using just the TT ones, think about 99% of rebuilds are using them anyway.

Am just doing something that is meant to be better and i like being different :)

Ooops, think I'm in the wrong forum, thought it we was talking about a different kind of squirter... ;-) (sorry, haha, couldn't resist :-)
