As you are more than aware, iv had nothing but issues since I bought this Z.

After it was driven home on a low loader last night after the misfire became that bad the engine died and would not even fire up again.

I mangaed to get it ticking over this morn with use of a gallon of WD40 all over the coil pack connectors but its still missing.

I noticed that steam (condensation) was coming out of one of my exhausts a hell of a lot more than the other wich would lead me to believe the issue is the left side of the block.

Would removing the coil packs and wd40 ing them help as moisture could have got deep inside them or are we thinking its more likely internals??

I can say im getting to hate this car!:headvswal:mad:

If your car is missfiring, then some of that might be fuel. Have you had it checked out with ConZult?

  • Author

No, im scared it will only get so far before it conks out and I have to get it recovered again.

Is nissan the only place that can diagnose?

Missfire is likely to be either a failing PTU, Coilpack connectors, Injector Connectors or the Loom itself. There are other reasons, but thats the most common. You need to find out if its fuel or spark related.

There is a lot of information on here about how to diagnose, but if you would rather an expert takes a look, then Nissan is the last place I would take it. Where are you based, your profile does'nt say ?

What part of the UK you in ? another member who knows his/her stuff might be near by.

I just cured my misfiring 6th cylinder:dance: The coil pack connectors and injector connectors looked very crusty.... especially on No 6 cylinder, So I soldered new connectors to the loom....... still missing:smash: So changed the coil pack..... still missing. So now I'm thinking BIG things are going on with the engine....... tried one last thing ..... The fooking sparkplugs and yes it was the fooking spark plug in no 6 cylinder a NGK platinium that I had put in less than 12 months before!!! Anyway, happy days not missing anymore!!!

Good thing, easily overlooked.

the guy who I bought it off said he had replaced them not so long ago but you never know.

Iv also located a seres 2 ptu for £75 delivered so I might invest in that too as my car is a 1991 so it will have a crappy old one

Check the ptu and where is it located? Is it still on the crankcase?

I got mine from yank ebay for £25 delivered after my S1 ptu died and caused a really bad missfire.

Ask this guy if he will post to the uk etc, I'm sure you can borrow one till it arrives.

nice one thanks a lot

Its still on the crankcase, does the S2 relocate or does it fit in the same place?

They are designed to fit in the same place, should be ok on the crankcase but I'd relocate it anyway. The fact that your old S1 is still on the crank case probably hasnt helped things.

Just to show how crap the S1's are I borrowed 3 "tested" ones from mates while waiting for my new one to come and none of them worked!

S2 one I got from the us has been spot on so far tho, make sure you get the piggy back loom thats in the pic and it will plug straight in.

will the loom off a 96 Z plug straight into my loom or will I have to locate a special one?

I just want at least 1 week of troube free motoring.
Trouble free motoring and 300ZX do not sit together well :D
