Tell the RAC to ....F OFF .....

what a stupid idea! some people just cant afford new cars, even 'crap' ones - and im sure many will agree that there are plenty of examples of classic cars being in immaculate condition and also only used on weekends etc. while it wouldnt be too difficult to find a knackered 54-plate astra that belches black smoke up and down the M1 twice a day

anyways the G-reg Zs are ok cos theyre 19 years old ;)

sh1t ..my zed's 19 ....omg ....

Come on guys - it'll never happen!

There are just too many classic cars around, some worth £££££s, so any move to do that will inevitably be voluntary and/or applicable to knackered old nails that have no chance of passing another MOT.......

Everyone who knows me, knows I would not put any mad idea beyond the comprehension of this government. But this - it's just a story that has gotten out of proportion thanks to the internet....:o

Our Zs are safe.........

Richard:)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

It didn't sound like it would be compulsory to me, but that they would give you more than the cars worth as scrap simply to encourage it. But I may have misread it

At the end of the day what is more eco friendly, a brand new car ecery say 3 years with all that goes into making it, or one car that lasts as long as it can before being recycled into tin cans etc.

I think it will be the older car method that uses less energy, materials etc.

..even if this did pass which it wont .. really would be a blessing in disguise.. take there cash then buy your car back off the scrappy with some wonga in your pocket.. thats what i would do anyways :-x

thing is though, with a law like that, how can they enforce it? For that sort of thing it would need so much effort... so are the police going to stop ever car that is over 18 years old. What about newer models of the same shape on a private plate? Cant check that at a glance.

Its somthing that oculd never be

What i expect will happen is in time you'll have to justify the reason for having an old car. (I only use it at weekends and do 1000 miles a year etc) Or that its a worthwhile classic etc.

I agree that ancient volvos (for example) which dont have Tax or MOT etc and are just driven around because it just about still works should be removed and scrapped, but most classic cars are in better condition than when they left the factory so there is no way this could ever be enforced or excepted.

What concerns me is that this Government has tended to let shitty things come out as a rumour just to soften the blow, and 'bang' its brought in on the statute books. I cannot see it happening as they would have to pay you some sort of compensation (a buy back type of scheme) and they would be losing out on the road tax, and as most are second cars they would not be replaced, and also they would lose the tax on the insurance premium. I just hate muppets who put up these ideas that politicians then think might be a goer.

Wont be scrapping mine after todays faultless efforts, long live my z:bow::D

euthenasia next stop.Anyone over 25 or anyone with an iq higher that a dropped kerb than has learned to answer back with reason and judgement. They preach to us as if we are all kids and can't think for ourselves. Locked in their own little world of which we pay for. mad max with zeds bring it on...........

The proportion of cars over 15 years old is sooooooooooooooooooo low that it's not even a scheme that has any value what so ever.

I wouldn't count anything out these days. This goverment has already gone and changed all the tax bands for cars built between 2001 and 2005 (after people bought them) so I wouldn't put it past them trying something daft like this.

what could possibly be more important? I know saving their own ar#es
