I agree m8 i have experience in moderating forums and know where u coming from smile.gif

I dont mind moderation on forums - if it gets rid of the sh1t and the keyboard ninjas that have been so common of late then I'm all for it.

But - whos willing to moderate 24x7? It would be very time consuming.

Also theres the point of who could moderate and have their decisions accepted? Not everyone gets on with everyone. frown.gif

I think as more and more users post on this board it maybe enivitable that some sort of moderation would have to take place.

Re: Trade Adverts - hmmm touchy subject....I read the GTR board post, and I agree that normally traders would pay to advertise their services via newspaper, magazine, web etc, so why would/should it be free on this site.

But also on the other hand you do not want to drive away that source of technical or product info.

OK OK OK I apologise for the "offensive" post about Status Quo - but I only ever learnt 2 chords so sort of look up to them. biggrin.gif

Actually I agree with senna (even tho he owns a Skyline) so won't add anything, just support the sentiment.

Traders is difficult-ish. Out and out selling stuff or touting for business, clear they should pay a "trade" contribution. I think most of our traders have already said they would.

Normal members, equally clearly not. (Well, just a normal member contr is what I meant.)

One of our members who gets keen on breaking cars but this is just a pin-money hobby? Probably should contribute something.

How to tell the difference between someone who just posts sales stuff and someone who responds freely to members enquiries?

Don't pretend to have answers, just worth thinking about.

Think as this has been done a few times now, all we can do is but wait and see what Craig/Nico come up with, but a couple of thoughts, moderators should be a small group selected by Nico/Craig who in their opinion have not contributed in the past to some of the backlashing we've all seen. Traders, no one here except craig/Nico know which traders are willing support the club and those who are not, so best wait and see, otherwise you could be judging someone without knowing what's already been agreed.....

cheers

I dont mind helping with moderating the forums m8 im on nearly 24/7

If you need any help plz give me a shout

I do not wish to upset anyone but I must ask these questions cos I really cannot understand where you are coming from.

What does "moving in the right direction" and "the way forward" mean exactly. We are simply a chat forum of people who meet up at shows now and again not the united nations, why so serious?

I cannot understand why people get so wound up about arguments on here. It does not do you any harm and you are not forced to read it. I get p***ed off if I kerb my wheels or the price of petrol goes up but if Mr X has a slagging match with Mr Y then so what, what harm does it do you. The ironic thing is that a slagging match usually lasts 4 or 5 posts then you get about 20 posts of people mutually slapping each others backs with all the moralistic stuff like "This is not what we are about", "Think of the starving babies in Africa" etc etc etc.

People who get wound up about the fighting are quite happy to sit and read every post in the thread then start complaining about it. Why?? if im not interested in a thread i simply move onto the next one.

With regard to traders then if someone is making something new or has a good deal then I want to know about it, you still have the choice to buy or not. Equally if someone provides another member with a s**t service then that story should also be told.

This forum still does have a very usefull and serious role, any argument threads are often amusing and are an addittion to the forum, they do not take anything away. A helpfull thread is not deleted just because someone posts a p1sstake up. Membership is getting bigger all the time and the meets are getting better and better so it cant be all bad. Saying the forum might as well not be here if it isnt moderated is silly, do you really want to see all the good stuff stop just because you get wound up about other peoples dissagreements.

Who deems what is offensive?? There is no words or pictures anyone could post that could possibly offend me, I may not like them but once its gone from my screen then its gone from my mind as well. This isnt the 19th century anymore!

In my opinion the only posts that should be deleted are when someone joins only with the intent of being a troublemaker like HowdyTT or Porker.

Sometimes I think that the reason we get so many visitors from other forums is because there own forums are the most boring f***ing places on earth, do not let that happen here.

I think the 'moderator campaigners' need to follow a bit of their own advice and CHILL OUT!

Paul

paulg - senna said a liberal moderation, hopefully one that will keep everyone (well 99.9%!) happy.

i think its a very good idea, if only to get rid of the very extreme topics that crop up once in a while. they have become very offensive & petty in the past. you are right, you dont HAVE to read it, but people do, so why not stop it there & then.

I have started at least one serious topic that just degenerated into a pathetic slagging off contest - hopefully it would put a stop to that sort of thing.

on a lighter note:

OK OK OK I apologise for the "offensive" post about Status Quo - but I only ever learnt 2 chords so sort of look up to them.

so you can play ALL their songs then Gio!!!! biggrin.gif

I feel the need, the need for speed!

It seems that the creation of somthing good has produced a monster on the side.

I don't know if everyone else feels the same but since the tech forum was created, the habit of going in to the general forum has remained and I only go in to the tech forum if, yep you've guessed it, if I want to see technical issues.

However, the general forum has become a breading ground for multiple topics. A short while back I remember it went very quiet for a few weeks and coming on here became very boring. Then, someone, rightly so, posted a thread that basically said, "comeon people - its getting quiet and boring in here. Keep the place going by posting your interests and anything NZR that you feel is worth a discussion." Which was a very good idea, and from that came interesting topics about bodybuilding/politics/beer and women.

However, in amungst all this harmless oppinionated banter came people who didn't agree with other people's views, which again, there is nothing wrong with that but it was the way in which people expressed themselves once others had not agreed with them. As Andy Duff has said MANY times in the past, "why have an opinion if you cant express it". I agree. It's when users start calling each other baboons, lemmings with 2mm pen1s' or wishing each other dead where the problem arrises. One of my personal pet hates is when someone has chosen to have a debate about something in a formal manner, you reply in the same fashion and because they dont like your answer, they just tell you that you're full of b0ll0cks with no justification. If you're gonna talk the talk, then walk the walk.

Anyway, as for Status Quo, they're b0ll0x, Z's are b0ll0x and so is Macca's car - and I'll beat you all in a race and you can all kiss my ass. eek.gif

PS: Just kidding guys - relax.

That's all I want to say - but apart from that, this place is faultless.

hhmmmmmmmmm!

I agree with most of the comments above, especially paulg's. Offensive pictures and threatening language (note;could be used legally) are clearly unnecessary, but the odd argument is fun/constructive/unavoidable. Overzealous censorship would take more away from the forum than it would contribute imho. I think more effort should be put into extracting the useful info. and ordering it for everyone to rapidly access. It could then be put in a section whic only moderators can edit but everyone can access. This would help traders and potentially all members.

All that I think is needed is to ban people who have clearly come just to slag people off and make provocative comments, and who probably don't own or even covet a 300ZX. They are ~0.1 % of members ?

As for traders and people providing services/products - we all benefit more from this than the providers gain imho, so charging them would be counter-productive and probably only have the effect that they would put their prices up ! It would probably put many off from even bothering.

GOOD VALUE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES FOR 300ZX'S ARE RARE ENOUGH AS IT IS IN THIS COUNTRY, DON'T MAKE IT WORSE ?!

All I meant was WHY? So people post stupid things that upset certain people. So all people will be upset eventually at something somebody says or shows them. But isnt that life in general. Censoring people or posts wont work. Ignoring someone works much better or take the piss back if it works better for u. But getting irate about it doesnt achieve anything except fueling the fire.

it may be life, but its not what this forum is about.

i never complain about threads that are funny.

i rarely censor or moderate

this is because i want the same thing as most of you are saying, and that a free speech board is best

but that does not mean that threats, abuse and general lager lout/bullying/idiotic beahaviour should be acceptable and tolerated

as soon as that starts, then the forum goes downhill real fast, as has been proved plenty of times

this is not your local pub on a friday night where you have a few beers, and have a fight with some equally drunk idiot
