Funkysi
How do you mean 'gone'? Has the lock been punched through and has fallen our or is it just a matter of not locking with the key?
1stzx
the key goes in but just spins. As u tun the key there is no pressure at all.
PhilP
the key goes in but just spins. As u tun the key there is no pressure at all. Plastic clip connecting the barrel to the rod has probably snapped (mine did). You can replace it.
1stzx
oh good! I hope it will be something as easy as that! where can you get one from presuming that it is this? lol
Funkysi
Oh right that. That's more of a common fault on Zs that the turbos failing! LOL What's probably happened is that the plastic rod retainer has broken so that when you turn the key, the rod just swings and doesn't connect to the latch mechanism. Retainer/clip in most models is made of plastic and just goes brittle over time resulting in the problem you're having. Now, Nissan did make some design changes to it, but it never seems year specific. I've seen early and late models with plastic retainers. Maybe it was a dealer-fit call back, I dunno, anyway, you can get metal replacements if you keep your eye open. You can't buy them new, well you can, but you need to buy the complete lock assembly from memory. Again, pop off the door card and you should see it just below the barrel. JeffTT
The small plastic section that has been mentioned is common to fail, the part is NOT available on its own as previously mentioned only with a complete barrel, now you could stump up the £50+ cost and just use the plastic bit and that way retain the same key OR be clever and use the one from your passenger barrel! it is handed but with 10 seconds with a file it will fit just fine.
