Does anyone have any pics or know another members car with Chromed headlights on a Black zed.

Im toying with the idea of buying the 99 spec inserts and HID's of DTA,

 

Ive seen them done on zx eyes and a few others, but cant find anyone with a black zed.

 

Ive pretty much made up my mind, but need to just make sure,

Well stu its totally up to you on the look. i personally like the body colour coided inserts. the chrome ones look alright as you can see from the pic but it can be an arse to get sombody to do them and please dont do the tin foil job on them because no matter what people say it looks shit!

Indeed, we've had so many fitting issues with these inserts that we stopped selling them about 6 months ago. I put it down to poor craftmanship as it can't be that difficult to do it right.

Leave them dark Stu. Looks a lot better than having them chromed. Have a go at doing what Pete did to his (Turboz). You could paint the inners jet black to give it a clean look.

I kmow someone had mine done on my 1990 uk tt and i have to say they look the tits but the downside is getting the headlights out is a job then to strip then out is a messy long job thats if you dont break anything then your going to have to send them away for approx a week and all this dont come cheap, still intreseted then email me and ill email you the details.

Not to hard TBH :) There is a guide somewhere but i can't remember where it is :wack:

 

Its a pretty simple procedure, you take off the rubber seal that runs all the way round the headlight, then undo the screws and take off the 4 metal peices (one on each side on the unit). Next step is to take of the metal clips that help hold the glass the the main unit, they just flirt off with a screw driver. Then its a case of using a heat gun/hair dryer to heat up all four sides and slowly prize the glass away, you will wanna take your time doing that so as not to damage the glass.

 

Then its a case of undoing a couple of screws that hold the insert is, giving them a clean and painting them (or whatever else you have planned). While the unit is in bits take the time to properly clean the whole unit, glass inside and out, chrome reflection domes etc..... Give them all a proper clean.

 

Then its just a case of reversing the process, heat the black stuff up again and push the unit and glass back together firmly and then put everything else back on - Job Done :D
