Hi - I need somewhere where I can get used to the Z! I have only had it a couple of months and have not really driven it much.

 

I put my foot down yesterday and the rear lit up going down a straight road!! Its scary and I want to know the cars limits before I give it too much!

 

Does anyone know of anywhere that I can go to test it out? I live in Kent.

You need to know your limits first !

 

Do a track day.

first off if it lit up on a staight and youre in a standard car , look for better tyres, buy a second cheap rwd car and experiment, skid control for rwd is a forgotten art , try reading some tips on the advanced drivers forum

That's what I was thinking.

 

When I got my ZX it had brand new Avon ZZ3s all round and to say it was tail happy was an understatement.

 

I quickly replaced them with Goodyear GSD3s followed by Dunlop SP Sport 9000s (when the Goodyears were spent) and what do you know.......

 

.........no grip problems even in the wet:D

Just Feather the throttle!The power isnt going to go anywhere! Ease your way into it! Its still a huge buzz when you get used to it! Tyres are also a good idea! Dont rush into it and you will be fine!

Find a nice unused airfield, that is 3 miles long and 1/4 wide, put 3 zeds on it and have some fun. Ask Crotchrocket for proof..............lol

 

Seriously get used to it, drive in all weather conditions, trust me in the dry they are a bit sliddy, but try the wet and its a whole differnt ball game.

Get yourself on an airfield type day mate. Track is not the place to learn about basic car control, you'll risk breaking your car, yourself or others.

Andrew Walsh does some excellent days which are really good fun as well.

John Lyon is one of the best drivers and instructors out there. To start with he emphasises road craft driving and then goes onto dynamics like at the airfield days. He's pricey but well worth while. He doesn't pull any punches with his instructing so be warned!

The other very good option where you'll probably get the most time in the seat is the Drift What You Brung DWYB days at Santa Pod. They are very relaxed and geared to complete beginners with free instruction. The Zed engine isn't ideal though, so make sure your cooling is good (!).

Join the club, mine is almost killing me on a daily basis.

3rd gear in a straight line, turbo kicks in and my back end is all over the place!

Sure your rear bushes and hicas are ok? ;)
