Hi ..

Its not often a good 300zx turns up on my doorstep for sale, so i may pop along and have a look at this car ... just curious as to what some of you think of the price tag ? ...

I know its worth what im prepared to pay and all that but i just want to double check that its not grossly over priced .... although it is a low mileage .... the garage says it has fully documented history from Japan ...

It is a manaul box and aswell as the tracker it has a CAT1 alarm, the guy says it has traction control but i was'nt aware that any model 300zx had traction control ??? ...

seems a bit expensive mate, there are a few good condition ones on here for a lot less and i would imagine have had much more spent on them to ensure they are in A1 contition, the only problem you will have is that they prob wont be on your doorstep

Price seems ok being a 1998 model. There is probably only a handfull in the country so its hard to say for sure, most Z32's being 91-92.

No traction never standard, could have aftermarket installed such as Racelogic.

"Low mileage and unmolested".

Worth their weight in gold, IMHO. ;)

Im sure that car has been there for over a year, originally had a £10000 price tag

Interesting to know that ... ;)

I kinda thought that the price was roughly about right but just wanted to double check ....

Many thanks lads

Was that 300 not maybee at Dickson's in Perth a few years ago I remember they had a Red R-reg 300 for ages then I remember it being for sale where it is just now but I think the company in Cairneyhill traded as someone else. Gotta be wortha look but a lot of money under todays situation, credit crunch and all that might be a bargaining tool.

Cheers John

It's probably been there a year because it's so expensive. You could almost get an early 350Z for that money and more reliability.

Bear in mind though that you cant get a 1yr newer 99spec zed for less than £10k

IMHO it seems a tad expensive, but then again there is a rarity factor involved and TBH it really is'nt that much!

Agreed.....

......plus it's a 1998 car as well; you won't find many that new:bow:

One word of warning though. If you do buy it and then decide you don't want it in 6 months time, you will struggle to get your money back. There are too many cheap nasty cars on Fleabay etc which puts a lot of people off paying a premium for the best examples. Look at Crotchrocket's car; a clean and tidy low mileage UK spec yet he cannot sell it!

If it were me, I'd go and see it. If it's really a tidy R-reg example then £7k would not be unreasonable! But at the price, you buy it to keep it.......;)

Totally agree Richard ... and that is something i have given alot of thought too ... if i buy it i know i wont get my money back, nowhere near it.

Hi,

It looks a nice unmolested late example, so would definately be worth a look at!

If you keep it for a rew years then the initial purchase price is less relevant....After all £7k isn't much anyway in the scheme of things!

Cheerz,

Jez.

I'd be interested to see what else anyone can find of similar year with this performance and exclusivity levels. You can buy an M3, which is a great machine, but unimaginative, and, compared to the Z, common. The rest of the bunch are just Z competitors anyway. Late Supra TTs, Skyline R33s etc and a few XK8s. None of which I'd choose purely because of the reason that I originally bought my Z.

There's still very little 'exiting' cars in the £7,000 - £8,000 price range and when the norm "£5k will buy you a minter" usually refers to cars up to about a 94. Certainly not one that's barely 10 years old!

TBH, surely shouldn't Z owners feel pleased that their cars can still be valued as such.

Is it my eyes or has that been resprayed?? The finnish looks far too plasticy to be from the factory? And if it has been sprayed..........why??

Looks like the car's just been washed. If you look at it, you'll see the paint is still wet giving off a slightly different colour.

Thanks for your previous help before all on this Zed ..

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/645355.htm

On my way back home from work i very quickly nipped in by just as the place was closing and had a shifty round the car ...

The seat look like zed seats but they are neither tweed nor velour, they are a black fabric with 300zx stitched into the backreast .. is this the seats that went into the late zed's ? ..

The unit where the digital display for the climate control is just seems to have a heater switch that turns from settings 1 to 4 .... im assuming this model does not have climate control then ?? ..

It seems the later these cars were made the less mod cons they got, no boost gauge for the turbo, seats look pretty basic.

Also, im not to sure this has only done 40K !! .. the drivers seat bolster is not worn through as such but it just looks like its seen more than 40k of wear .. are the seats known for getting abit ragged quickly and maybe its fine ??

The drivers window has deep scratches on the outside running from top to bottom, you know the kind of scratches from when a window has been going up and down but normally you see them on really old cars !! .. if i bought the car the window would need to be replaced ...

Also im a great believer in 1st impressions, and when you walk up to it and some of its tyres are flat kinda starts ruining it for me straight away !!

Anyways, be interested to read your thoughts on what iv wrote, you think im being abit to catious and thats just the way these cars are or should i just keep away ?? ..

Thanks

hi m8 the later models only had digi climate control as an option however i believe it was standard on the earlier ones

driver's side seat wear is a classic one especially on right hand bolster !

as regard the seat logo im not sure this was a standard fixture so unless it's been added or there after market seats ?

but im sure some one will on ere

hope this helps :D

You are right, the later cars did lose some spec, the black seats do look like the material from a Micra! It was because later in life they were struggling to sell, nothing to do with the cars, just the state of economy, so to try and keep the prices level and attractive some cost cutting was done.........That said I've read that the later cars also have some minor improvements, not so much with equipment, but with general chassis and functional components.

The car may have done a genuine 40k, but lots of shorter journeys throughout its life meaning more getting in and out so the seats may look at bit worn.

The scratch on the window could be because of a small stone or something getting stuck under the rubber and dragging up and down with operation. Wouldn't need to be there for long to deeply score it. So no real indication of mileage.

First impressions are important, but can be wrong sometimes. The car I bought before my Zed was 1st viewed in a right mess. It was filthy inside and out. I thought there were lots of stone chips etc, but as I rubbed away, all the marks wiped off. To cut the story short, I bought thinking there was a good car under this mess and sure enough it was excellent! A bit risky, but this instance it paid off.

Sounds like you might like this Zed though, because you're posting about it! Some of the Zeds I viewed didn't require a 2nd thought. They were poor! Go and have another thorough look, listen to it running from cold, test all the equipment and see whats what.

My Zed was a great find but, I still had to view 4 times before I made a deal and even then I was a nervous wreck assuming there must be trouble ahead. Nearly 18months later, no problems. Cruise control & air con didn't work on mine, but it was just the CC cancel switch (£30) and the air con clutch (£40), all fixed now. I used those points to get my Alarm & immob free.

Good luck!
