Replacing my worn out Bridgestone RE05s soon. They've lasted 3 years. Were about 1/2 worn then, so haven't done too badly. Around 7,000 miles.

They are a little bit too hard for me, not too bad on a warm day, they work very well when warm, as do all tyres, but are pretty shite when cold and not good in the wet at all....even though I've only driven in the wet with it about 4 or 5 times.

I am going to go up a size. Currently, the rears are 265 35 18 and I want to go to a 40 profile to match the fronts. There's enough room for a marginal increase. I find the rears look a little too stretched and too low-profile, 285 might be pushing it a little with the offset I have, but might be able to go for a 275? The fronts are 235 40 18 and will probably stay with that size.

Now the 40 profile on a 265 isn't a common one, only the top tyre brands make that particular size, the 35 profile is what sells.

So, I am looking at Dunlop SP Sports all round (as I want matching tread too!), just wondering if anyone's got these in theirs?

Hey Si......

.....I have - I assume you mean the SP Sport 9000s with the V-tread pattern.

I have found them to be very good on my ZX; they grip well in dry and wet conditions and they have lasted well so far (that's miles not hours:tongue:).

I don't drive it slowly either and can honestly say I've had no loss of traction or wayward back end moments!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I have 265 Dunlop Sports on the rear, not had any problems in dry or wet. think i paid 125quid each for them?

i had the 9000's on prior to the proxes i use now and i hated them. found them loud and lacked grip in the wet

I have them on the back of my lex 275/35/18

I like them, grip well, wet or dry.

Si, your 35 rear profile does match the 40 front profile. Remember the profile is a percentage of the width.

If you fit a 40 profile on the back you'll have a bigger sidewall than the fronts.

235/40/18 is pretty much exactly the same as 265/35/18, but the 265/40/18 has a circumference difference of 3.3" and a diameter difference of 1", resulting in a 0.5" larger sidewall.

and definatly dont fit a 40 profile if you go wider than 265 as it will look very odd.

Thanks guys.

Yes Dave, I did think how much it will raise the profile. I think I'll go for a 275 35. Rears look out of proportion at a 265 35 rather than raise the physical profile. I am going for the following, 245/40/18 which is 25.7" tall and the rears, 275/35/18 which should be 25.6" tall. That's a difference of 0.1" which is nothing.

Si, have you ever tried Falkens?

I would also reccomend the Falkens for price, performance and wear.

I think £1000 for a set of tyres for a car of my spec, ie stock performance is a little ott.

Falkens do look excellent value. They seem to have a good rating on here, but I've not always heard that about them.

The old man has dunlops on his zed.great tread pattern and grip in all weathers.Try Cabot si in Bristol the guy does them for a good price and the guys love zeds and are careful with your wheels.

I think the sp9000 is a fantastic tyre out of all tyres iv'e tried on my Z these came out top and id pay the little extra for them...

I have the sp9000 on my rears had no trouble with them at all

Si, the prices Sunderlandzx stated isnt accurate. I paid less than £600 for all corners and my rears are 265/35/zr18

I have Michelin Pilot sport on mine and you are right, they are incredible tyres. Mine were less than £900, fitted, which I thought was a pretty good deal.

£900-£1000 ! ouch. You wont want to hear that you can get better tyres for half the price then :x:

I have to agree - Michelin Pilot Sports are an excellent tyre with very few equals but £900-£1000 is OTT. Even they can be purchased cheaper than that; I'd say £6-700 for all four fitted at the most;)

Well now I feel crappy for paying well over the odds and on top of that you've left me hanging as well! :p Come on, where would I find them for less than £700 fitted?
