yup it's section 4b of your license.

The valid to date usually 10 years from the date of issue (i.e. valid from setion 4a).

If you keep moving house every 9 years you'll get a new 10 year license free.:nelson:

crap that makes mine out of date!!!!:mac1:

basically its a id card licence dont run out till 2012 ...mine that is.. but the photo runs out this year.so the cunning bstards did get the id card in

yep i have to renew mine by end of october. 10 years of driving under my belt and they charge me 17.50 admin cost :nono:

I ran with the old paper licence until the photo licence was made mandatory. I've only had my photo licence since 2004, so have another 6 years left on mine.

Still, it's cheaper than getting a new passport! I was lucky that I avoided replacing mine with the micro-chipped ones which were twice the price of the old ones.

...what's more shocking are the yahoo cars for sale on the bottom right hand corner. Tata Safari (SUV)....with, wait for it, a 2.0TDi producing an earth shattering 90bhp. WTF can do you with 90bhp in one of those?!? Even cars with 90bhp are slow!

As far as I am aware you can get change address to a mates?, then change back a week later & you get a free 10 yr licence.

Fraud? I am sure the fine with be more than £1000 if that gets found out about.

yeah same here

£72 quid for a new passport, sent mine off yesterday, and my licence expires next october too! didnt even realise they expired FFS. on the brightside, i fixed my seatbelt, retracts like a beauty now.

i would all check the photo date on yer cards as they run out way before the licence actually does hence it being an id card so you renew the licence in 10 yrs but the photo sooner

so end up paying a lot more than you think:rant:all this and my hgv licence and medical to pay for only job i know that i have to pay for the pleasure in doing...anyway rant over :)

I moved in 2004 and mine runs out in 2010, so I had to pay to change the address and then get charged again in 2010, robbin b*****ds !

I've moved twice since the new license was issued and since the last time i moved it is valid for 10 years. Same with my wife.

I wish i had stuck with the old paper license now, i only changed because i assumed it was mandatory.

No point.

DVLA: "You must tell the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) immediately of any changes to your name, address or both. You can update your driving licence online or send it to DVLA for amendment. A new licence will be issued free of charge unless your photograph’s due for renewal."

Sort of...

Directgov: "The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) no longer issue paper driving licences. The European Union has a directive requiring all member states to issue driving licences in a card format containing the licence holder's photo and signature."

I just read an article about how the first issued photo licences are due to expire and it will cost each driver £17.50 for a new one or face a fine of £1000. My license expires in a couple of years but i didn't realise this until i read this - http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/12092008/36/drivers-face-fines-expired-licences-0.html

good job my paper licence has no expirey

I ran with the old paper licence until the photo licence was made mandatory.

Who says the photo licence is mandatory?

I've only got my paper licence which doesn't expire until next May when I am seventy. I suppose I will have to get a photo licence then....but how much will it cost me? Will I also have to have a doctor's letter or something to allow me to renew?

It's mandatory if you want to go overseas and drive. or hire out rental cars/loan cars International driving licences don't exist anymore either iirc.
