Hastings
Ive noticed that my zed (1993 TT manual) drives alot nicer at night. During the day there is sometimes a flat spot at the upper end of the rev range and its not as responsive, overall doesnt feel as fast as at night. From what ive read this is because the air at night is more dense, hence a greater volume of air entering engine and hence increased amount of combustion. Whats the best thing to do to make it drive during the day as it does at night?? FMIC? chip? or...?? thanks in advance!

Joely P
my first port of call would be to slap it on a conZult and see what everythings doing... might show up something obvious..
Gezzmarrelda
You'll still find there's a difference at night though
Retro620ti
turbo cars always run better when ambient air temps are lower
Guest 300zx_girl
cool air = cool runnings :D :D
markgixxer750
There will always be a difference between warm and cold ambient temperature but if it is a huge difference then it would point to there being a bit of a problem I would suggest. Not sure where to look but someone more technically minded might have an answer. Maybe IC`s not operating as efficiently as they should be? Just a guess
Maz
I had to double check where you were located ..i thought you must be in South Africa or Australia, some place like that ....not really much of a temp difference in the UK between day and night is there ? *evil grin*
Hastings
I have always noticed it in the cars Ive had in the past i.e crisper at night, but the difference now is quite distinct.......would a mild chip, possibly chipped for just an airfilter, would that get rid of a flat spot? Z32KING
Yup, cold early mornings used to make me think about intercoolers.
Trevz
Winter nights are the best of course, so at least we've got something to look forward to during those bleak months. Not much point worrying about making it quicker for day time use, as the roads are too busy and stinking camera van scum are lurking everywhere. It's like a different world at night - lovely and quiet and no scammers. Do you have an after market boost gauge, sounds like you're running stock boost with perhaps a small boost leak? WillieO
Might make you think about water spray for the intercoolers - just set up a couple of windscreen washer motors and a some tubing and jets - Viz type top tip for improved intercooler operation! MaZ JoneZ
Does anyone remember when SAAB did a water spray kit for their Turbo ? It was simply a bottle of water under the bonnet with a push button on the dash to inject a fine spray into the inlet manifold to give a boost. They did it because they realised the cars performed better in damp conditions. It did work, but they charged £250 for it in the seventies IIRC. Lot of cash for a bottle of water. Your idea was very close WillieO:)

MaZ JoneZ
Not the same as SAAB,sorry lads.Their system had an injector in the Inlet Manifold that sprayed a mist in with the incoming air. It gave a noticable boost apparantly :) Water cooling for the Intercoolers just cools the exhaust gasses even more than Intercoolers on their own. Not trying to be a clever T*** by the way, just an old git with a bit of memory left:rofl:
Z32
larger intercooler helps, do you want it to drive faster in the day like it does in the night? or want to resolve the poor day time flat spot running?
