if, for arguments sake, i was to go to mr nissan for a set of oem brembos discs for my r33 gtr setup and pay 16 million quid each for em... would they essentially be the same disc as the 3G discs? i know they have slots cut into them but im just wandering whether the supposed cast quality of the 3G's really is identical to the 'reliable' (?) brembos...

i was gonna go for the dba 4000's but when researching i found a forum in oz with reports full of dba discs that have cracked from the return slot right at the edge... this put me off a bit although looking at the dba webby it looks as though they have modded the disc so the slot doesnt go right to the edge...

this is now making me think about the 3G discs as the slots go all the way to the edge...

Never had any problem on the fiat coupe, that has brembo calipers on and gave the discs some real abuse for about a year and half

if your going to go for DBA's, i would go for the 5000 series, i had the gold series all round but the fronts worped :S. kept the rears though but, they are starting to get scorched so when the times right will change to 5000's. fantastic disc with no probs, hot or cold on road and track, although a bit pricey

Yes and No.

Brembo were commisioned to design the brake system on the GTR, as they often are from sports car manufacturers. The disc design/casting/material is not the same as say all other Brembo discs you see advertised. You often see Brembo discs advertised for various cars from something like 70 quid a pair, same company etc, deffo not same discs as as those that cost say 800 quid from the manufacturer.

3G discs are Brembo casts that are then machined by 3G to their own unique slotted design and this works very well, so you won't be disapointed if you use them.

DBA, 4000 Series wiper slots for the GTR fitment, never known any issues with them even going back years, if you have a link to info, I wouldn't mind seeing it.

The 4000 series are a very very good disc on the whole and if i was buying some now, i'd just choose these over the 3G for a GTR set up ;)

Gold series, only the 4000 series and 5000 series have the DBA Unique Kangaroo paw ventilation system built into the disc which aids the cooling of the disc correctly.

Gold series of any other grades (which includes Zed fitment) does not have this system and like many many other disc manufactures have had some problems with cracking because they are slotted and drilled, so nowt unusual there.

I generally would only sell Zed fitment Gold series (non 4000 or 5000 series) for the Zeds rear brakes and not the fronts. I have had them on my rears for over 4 years now.

Thanks mate, phew after reading all that yep a few have had issues, however it is literally a few! The main author even admits using his brakes in race conditions whilst they were stone cold and they cracked right after he tried to stop. Most were all hardend racers in that thread. Still not good for DBA at the time though.

Certainly no such issues on the UK version of skyline forums with DBA's especially with most Skyline tuners reccomending/Selling DBA discs.

My money would still deffo be on the wiperslots, but if that has scared yer, then the 3G's will perform really good too ;)

yeah i agree with that tbh.. though it was a link given to me from the uk gtr forum. as you say... there will be far more positive feedbacks which generally dont get heard of. the ones that worried me were the few that cracked them stopping from a 1/4 mile sprint... one use and cracked :(

then again as i said in a previous post, the dba pics on their webby show the return slot stopping before the edge... all the reports i could see in that thread illustrated cracks starting from the stress points of the slots going right to the edge. maybe this was dba' answer to the problem?

i think i will give them a try tbh, it will mainly be for road use so i very much doubt il have anys probs
