Joely P
Im in the zed at the mo and its reminded me a question iv been meaning to ask but keep forgetting, so i thought, theres no time like the present!... Iv been using the datascan proggy on my carpc to 'monitor' things lol! one thing im unsure about is the water temp readouts im getting... are they inaccurate like the gauge reading or are they pretty reliable? Joely P
bump... any opinions/advice on this?
WillieO
What values are you getting? The ECU temp sender must have a special characteristic otherwise they would have dual purposed it for the guage as well. I would imagine that they only need the ECU to know when the engine is up to temp for fueling, boost and emissions. I dont think they had safety features to indicate overtemp etc. So it might not be a linear characteristic like the guage is supposed to be. nzniggles
So it might not be a linear characteristic like the guage is supposed to be.The stock temp guage is far from linear. I would trust the ECU temperature as long as the connector on the sender (yellow one) is nice and clean.
AndyP
I think the output from the temp sender is pretty accurate, but the gauge to which it is usually attached is rubbish. I have my Tectom connected permanently and it does show small variations in temp, when you would expect them.
edk83
I have an infometer connected to the ecu at all times and the ecu temp sender normally reads 172 - 176 F up to 180 when booting it, can go up to about 185 just after I start it from hot (petrol stations etc) but then goes back to 170's about 2 seconds later as water is pumped through. I'd say its pretty good, its the stock gauges that suck 180 F is 82 C by the way

Yowser
Yep, its a standard thermoresitor gauge that connects to the ECU. Its going to be accurate (not counting for old coroded examples). Its the Gauge cluster itself which is unreliable as the gauge is not linear.
Joely P
roger that bandits... munchos thankyos for the sound advice... btw... having datascan on live feed is dangerous, i spend more time looking at the million gauges then the road... not at anything in particular, just the pretty swooping of all the dials going up and down as i go 'waaaaarp.. woooor.. wAAAAArrRR... woooor[pop]ooor[popop].. waa-aaar-aaa-ooorr' just like that ^^ :smw:
