What is the best tyre size for these, as ive just got a set, centres have been refurbed, and the rims are at the polishers.

18" Gewalt split rims, they have 225/35/18 on the front but nothing on the rears

Does 255 or 265/35/18 sound okay for the rears. Dont want to have to need to have the rear arches rolled.

First question is how wide are they and what offset? No good spec'ing tyres without those.

Wheel width ye, dont matter bout offset

Certainly does! If the offset is a little extreme and the tyre is too wide, it'll scrub.

agreed, offset needs to be "close", and you certainly cant size the tyre without the width of the wheel.

well right tyre for right rim size, got to have right offset to start with !

Yes, but that can still have an effect on how wide you take your tyres!

Regardless of offset as you need the correct offset anyway, the tyre has to fit that rim correctly, without stretching the beading or the tyre wall and having a tyre ill fitting the rim.

At what point didn't I say you needed the correct offset?

You can get a more aggressive offset meaning that you need to be wary of tyre size. I can't really get much wider than a 265 on the back of my car. I have 9.5" wide rims which should really have a 275 or 285 tyre on them.

I'm sitting pretty with 275's on the back with no rubbing and a 10" rim.

I tried 285's and didn't get a rub the arch but on the inner tyre I was rubbing on something.

A certain wheel width requires the correct tyre size i.e 10" is 275/../.. or 9.5" should be 265/..

Offset has got to be correct for the particular car anyway.

All im saying is there is really only 1 tyre size per wheel size.

Thanks for the help so far, popped into the polishers today 2 of the wheels are done rest will be ready friday. They look amazing.

Fronts are 8" internal rim to rim and the rears 9".

Have looked over for any labels of markings of numbers and its all in jap.

Can anyone shed any more light...

Cheers

Stu

in actual fact there are 3 tyre width for a wheel width. a 10" wheel will take a 265 275 or 285 and all well within save tolerence. I have 10" rears on mine and have 275's but had to have the rear arches rolled to stop the scrubbing. Used to have 265's with no scrubbing but the wheel arch is proper filled now.

265's are better in the rain though. Hugh tyres give less traction in wet weather

Ye but 275 is the perfect size for 10"

I always thought that wider tyres in the wet was less grip, but i have a car with 245/45/18 fronts and 275/35/18 rear and they grip like poo in the wet, got a right job trying to lose it.

Yep but i drive like an animal as anyone who's been on the car with me can vouch. If it isn't skipping round bends in the dry then its because I'm behind something slow and not got past yet. In the wet with the 265 S02's I can progress almost as quickly as in the dry, but maybe its just that Pilots are not as good in the rain and they don't do S02's in 275/35/18's

Not really true.

PS, 285 is perfect for a 10" ;) Saying that, I want 285 on my 9.5". Flat tyre walls look better than stretched. Although you get far less tyre roll with a stretched tyre.

over sized tyres have a detrimental effect on handling, i would say 285 is to big for a 9.5 rim really mate

I know, that's why I said there was less roll with a stretched tyre. ;)

285 iss spot on for a 10" rim though. 275 is best for 9.5. My rear tyres (265s) are a little too stretched. 275 will be my replacements.
