buying a import 300zx this weekend,

plan on increasing the boost a little. Asume they run 10PSI standard??

can the standard fuel pump handle say 14PSI??

my S13 needed a walbro, as the standard one cudnt provide enuff juice on demand (feel car holding back)

also is the ECU have fuel cut? (its a Jap car, converted to MPH)

Decatting does not damage the seals in anyway, it reduces back pressure making it easier for oil to seep past the exhaust seal rings, thats if they are on their last legs. If they leak then you can put the cats back on and your back to normal.

Yes im very bored with my life :D

PS its ok to use normal 95 isnt it?

just wont run as good as 97.

or just use normal 95 + octane booster

Nope have to use high octane really, especially if you intend to drive it hard and even more so in winter.

As a rule, the original Jap ECU is mapped for 100 ron (so i believe anyway)

You dont want 97.... V power @ 99 is the best bet. No problems then, i know i had to stick £20 of asda shite in mine one day as an emergancy... and it felt shite, didnt want to drive at all!

One thing i have found with these cars is have £1500 tucked away at all times for a rainy day, if you have that money you never have any problems.... as soon as you dont have the money to fix it you can gaurantee that it will bite you in the arse and do something costly.

Tesco do a 99 ron round my way now, I'm using it while I run her in then switching back to V max :)

alrite smart arse ;) lol You know what i mean though none of this 97 *****x, it isnt super, its "slightly better than normal unleaded at considerably more money (the same as proper super)" im sure ive seen that slogon on an esso station or BP station somewhere...

Less ron = more carbon build up on the pistons and stuff :D

Would avoid tesco shite at all costs Shell V-power is the way to go, by the way it is summer that high octane fuel is more desirable!

So whats the lowest we can buy?

Actually it would be helpful for someone to write a list of all the types of petrols available in the uk and a little note next to each one with some info??????????

Any takers?

Yep and the reason is because Octane is what raises the burning point of the petrol itself, so higher the Ron (Octane) the higher the ignition point of the fuel.

The lower the ron, the lower the ignition point (i.e. temp that the fuel ignites), more chance of igniting before the spark = det !.

So whats the lowest we can buy?

I think The Jap ECU's are mapped on 100 ron, UK's are mapped on 95.

I think it totally depends on what your car was mapped on (i.e. if you have an after market chip). If you are running higher than stock boost and obviously have an after market chip then you should be using Shells V or BP's Super both I think are 99 ron.

While visiting the yank forum i noticed they dont as high ron than us?

You are right, that is why they use race fuel when dynoing their car, they can run higher boost and get more bhp!

Hi

Just doing a De Cat on a Jap spec with an original exhaust may not give you what you want. The exhaust is also restricted in the section just after the Cats. If you split the exhaust have a look.

na its got kakimoto twin exhaust after the cats :)

Well what a bunch of fannies, so really they are cheats, so everyday driving bhp in the us is just a myth haha. So whats the highest commercial ron the yanks can purchase at a local gas station then? Some are as low as 87

Mon vs Ron. Add about 4 to the U.S forum octane ratings to match ours.

eg. 93 octane in U.S is about same as 97 octane in U.K

There was a big thread on here years ago, I think the conclusion was they were virtually the same.

I put the power up with chip and electronic booster. Engine took no harm. But my standard clutch can not take it and have to drive it like before I had the job done. Apart from the odd blast then you see the revs going faster than you are. Shall be replaced with a high performance clutch when I can. So be aware.

JDM 300 or UK?

and what fuel 95 or higher?

and what fuel 95 or higher?

Although ive not quoted it, i get the impression STU300SMZ has fitted an electronic boost controller to the car, and perhaps wacked it up to around the 14psi mark perhaps with a suitable AndyP or DTA chip

If its a UK - 95 OK (Idealy a UK should be run on 99 anyway especially if you are increasing the boost pressure)

If its JDM - 99 if possible (and definitely if you intend to do anything with it)

Unless the chip you are going to use is specificially mapped to use 95 RON fuel. But that would be fairly pointless - because it will make less power than on 99.

Be told, use 99 or it will most likely go bang! Hell its only 5p a litre difference anyway, £2.50 extra a tank is going to be the least of your worries money wise with a 300zx!

ive spoke to Andy P,

going to get a chip from him, going to run it on 95 with increased boost,

only slightly increased tho, say 12/13PSI.

he said its fine.

anything more than that then higher octance required.

once the Z is chipt, de-catted, filter, exhasut, and increased boost (13PSI), id be happy with 300BHP or just over, which im sure it would acheive.

that a realistic figure you agree? maybe 310? (95ron)

I would do some searches about decatting old zeds.... Its generally not a good idea. Removes the back pressure which can accelerate the weakening of the turbo seals, remember engine has got to come out to replace them. Its up to you.
