Had this problem for a while, changed the old bushes to poly ones as most here asid this would cure the problem......made no difference whatsoever so decided to take a closer look at the brakes.

Checked all pistons individually and all are moving ok although on the left side i noticed the top clip that hold the top straight rod that runs left to right that holds the top of the spring that holds in the pad (still with me????) was not there and the pin was halfway out which also meant the spring was twisted...............put all this back with a new clip but not yet tested.

Without sounding too desperate and still not tested yet, if it still does it what could it be?????

wheel balancing causes Vibration through the steering wheel, and usually only at certain speeds, take it to a tyre place and get them to test it, usually only charge about 3 quid a wheel, could be a cheap fix, only takes for a weight to come off the alloy and it will start to shake.

well ive got a wobble and after balancing it was still there so took it back to tire shop and got told my 1500 miles proxys (tr1r) have developed flat spots because the car never gets used:headvswal he showed me the egg shape on rotating the wheels....not happy:mad:

Try driving it for a few more miles Brian - that may well work its way out ;) Fingers crossed!

But is cheaper to buy new tires or to put petrol in the car.

Back on subject, the fact that you have repaired something on the breaks may well hav solved the problem. Hopefully the disk is not wharped from the pads possibly not fitting properly, if you get what I mean.

Good luck sorting it.

I guess it could be balancing but Si it only happens when i brake and usually more about 70mph upwards.....

Still not tested yet after i put them back together and sorted out the pin but also swapped the pads around and generally tightened everything.

Want to test them but it's so wet at the moment want to wait 'till it dries a little more.....

Also happy with the pistons as they are moving ok.

Could be the balancing i guess as i do get some very slight wobble around 70-80 mph but not too noticable..........

Have you got after market wheels could be non hubcentric spacers, if fitted or no spigot rings to locate on centre bore.

I have not got spigot rings and I have no trouble, I know people say you need them but on many cars I have never found it so. Just 10p worth

Thinking about it I had a similar problem years ago, with a 300, the pads were worn but not terrible.

My guess is a build up of gasses/heat from the pad under hardish braking caused the vibration, different pads cured it.

Discs are pretty new only done about 600 miles DBA's slotted from Danny.......Brembo's are from an R33GTR pads are porterfields RS4's.......i think????

...............so i've hadc another look at the vibration from the brakes and can confirm it does it from about 40mph and is a definate wobble from the steering wheel.

As mentioned before the discs are relatively new from Danny about 1000 miles only slotted DBA's, the calipers are from an R33 GTR and all pistons are moving freely.

I have already replaced the tension rod bushes to poly one's from Z Centre but this made no difference at all (good that i've changed them anyway i guess!).

The pads are Porterfields RS4's and also fine.

I've goodridge hoses and even bled the brakes last weekend but still wobble from the steering which is worse at high speeds....

The only thing i've not checked is that the discs are warped but think this is unlikely as they are pretty new and i've not really hammered them!

What is the easiest way to check if one or both are warped??????

Cheers

Hey mate I would get your bearings checked mine just went, both sides at the front and that started as a wobble from the front, intermittent.

*****x so now it could be another thing!!!!!!!

How would i know if the bearings are on their way out would'nt i feel it or hear it more on cornering?

Hi mate

I noticed a wobble to begin with then a grinding noise like something rubbing. Then it started squeeking like a budgie was stuck under the wheel and then a screeching and then on the way to the garage a very nasty jerk to the left and severe wobble. over the space of 700 miles.

So noticeable then!!!!!!

I remember with my old cars you could push the top of the wheel when stationary and feel if their was any knocking or movement, if there was then it was wheel bearing......

Mine started as a wobble but got through its MOT I even asked the guys at the garage to check them and on Friday the gave them a clean bill of health and Monday they go!???

The Porsche website yes i did have a 928 and was on a Porsche owners website.....

By the way just came back from a drive and tried pushing the top of the wheel when it was parked.

I noticed on the offside front wheel when i pushed on the top i could hear a slight knocking which will mean some movement even though the wheel is tight.

The right is ok.

I was also thinking as the front discs are floating and use the tightness of the wheel to hold them in, if there is wheel bearing damage and some movement then even though the wheel is tight the disc will move under braking???????

Anyone any idea how much a set of wheel bearings are?

Are there two on each wheel?

Cheers

Alex
