Insurance - how are you guys getting it so cheap!?

Hi folks,

I'm looking to renew my insurance after 2 years off the road. Most of the companies mentioned on here seem to be dead ends for me 'can't quote you sir' or crazy money. I don't get it...my details are as follows:

38 years old

5 years NCB

1990 Jap TT manual

Second vehicle, no more than 5K miles per year

Value - virtually nil!

Parked on private driveway.

Cat 1 alarm/immob

Mods:

550cc injectors

AVC-r

Exhaust

Intake

FMIC

hybrid tubs

NISTune programmable ECU daughterboard (chip)

Nothing extreme by any means!

If any of you have similar mods and reasonable insurance, I'd be most grateful if you could advise of the company and particularly if you can quote me a reference number that I can quote back at them when they say they can't quote!

Cheers

houghtons Tel: 01582 867763 2nd car / classic policy limited milage is not a problem for them

Worth calling Carole Nash for their classic policy, but they may get a bit bothered about some of the mods, they seem to add about 10% per non-standard alteration.

Thanks guys, I tried Houghtons last week and they didn't want to know (!?). Carole Nash are due to call back. I'll give the rest a try tomorrow.

Best I've had so far is Adrian Flux, who insured me a few years ago, not too bad at £539.

Cheers

a-plan seem to provide good quotes.....ive been with them for years no other insurance company has been able to beat them as yet.

CHEAP? I will let you know next month when mine is due for renewal. :)

I have a multi car policy with Admiral (at the moment)

the answer is to shop around every single year. its a pain in the arse (tho some companies will keep your details and mod list etc. on file) but you can gradually work your premium down.

me too just short of 500 a year

I just went with Admiral...... £280 fully comp (protected NCB) with 1 mod declared..... I was told its about £30 per mod declared!!! plus they put on another £20 when I told them I have 2 children???(when I quizzed this I was told they might be a distraction when they are in the back:confused: But if I was single and had no kids of my own but drove round all 3 of my sisters kids in the Z every day it would be £20 less:smash:)

Hi Rob,

I'm the same age as you and live in a low crime area.

My Zx is a second car, insured with Lynbrooks (do a search on the name) for under 5k miles PA and I pay less than £300 for an agreed value policy.

Richard:)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Houghtons mainly use chaucer insurance for their classic policies...trouble is you cant go direct to chaucer you need to go through a broker / intermediary....i guess they had their fill of classic cars right now so couldnt help....when shopping around be aware when reading through the quote they havent put you down as a UK 300zx even though you told them its an import...i have had this before and its a con to get your business the telesales in some direct outfits dont care & are just happy to take your money as its tough on you for not noticing the policy details

Had the same problem. Told them it was a JAP but when the policy came up for renewal it had UK written on it - not sure what would have happened had I had a bash! Phoned them and explained their error but they quoted me something rediculous for renewal. Now have a UK 300 and pay £340(fully comp) with Houghtons. Agreed value and limited mileage (5000). 2 mods declared (exhaust and wheels). 47 and live in Cornwall.

Im 27 and pay 650 quid a year for a motor traders pollicy to drive anythin including my bike!!
