Just out of interest for those of you with after market Gauges, can you tell me what your temp is once you have been driving for 5 - 10 mins. i.e. what temp does your guage read when it gets to a point and just sites there.

Also what cooling mods are you running at this temp ?

No, the centre connection will be insulated from the main body. If you earth the middle pin your engine will always run very cold lol

I just typed a really long essay about how the whole thing is brass and it doesn't look insulated in any way, then I though hmm maybe i need to earth the pipe rather than the sensor. Then, I started thinking about taking a picture of it tonight to show you what I mean. It was only at that point where I visulised myself taking a picture of it that I could see (in my mind) there's a fooking earthing screw on the adapter LMAO !!!!. I'll wire that up tonight and earth it to the plenum and report back ;). Thanks guys.

Same thing happened to me bud when I had an aftermarket gauge before i got the infometer. makes you feel a bit of a :smw:

:D

mate as you know we're in a similar boat as I'm coming to the end of my running-in stage. over the first few hundred miles after rebuild, it was running between 90 and 95. over the next few hundred miles the average has been gradually coming down. now it runs at between 80 and 85 while driving, and up to 91 when stationary. im sure i had an airlock at one stage, as each time the coolant was filled (once as an aftermarket rad i had installed turned out to have a hole in it :slap: ), and again after the front pipes burst, it would run quite warm for 100 miles or so, then start to behave itself a little more.

i have a Koyo rad, vented headlight panel, stock viscous fan, and a bloody great UK numberplate straight across the radiator :slap: which is going to get shifted soon! reading from an aftermarket temp gauge

.

Thinking about boiling the kettle and putting the gauge in will probably give me an incorrect reading because the sensor should really be earthed seperatly from the gauge.

Maybe I should run an earth wire from the sensor to ground

Yep you MUST fit a decent earth! Is the sensor body brass? If so just solder a wire on and run it to a good earthing point :)

Guess what ???.

I earthed out the water adapter to the plenum, checked for a good earth with the multi meter and ran the car for 30 mins. Gauge didn't go above 175 F (even in traffic) which is just under 80 C :).

Thanks guys for the input. I know I kinda answered the question myself but if it wasn't for all the replies, I would have never have go there (well until I looked under the bonnet again anyway :) )

greddy gauges say..water around town 70-75, oil 80

on the m/way in hot weather then water shows 85-90 and oil shows 90-95:)
