I had an interview last week up in Liverpool for a job working back in the maritime industry. Looking at getting back into shipping. Not entirely enjoying my current role although doing ok at it.

This new role combines my maritime experience with previous sales experience. I'll be out on the road just as much as I am at the moment. It's also a home based role which is nice. My current role is home based, but due to the IT infrastructure being so pap, I end up driving to one of the local offices when I need to do my own admin and planning.

Well, I got through the first interview which apparently went quite well. I'm pretty good in interviews and always manage to raise a smile and I keep the questions flowing. I did come out thinking they had a few doubts which I did address in the interview and to make sure they were left with no doubts. I guess that paid off. Apparently they were very impressed. As with my current role, I had to go to head office for a second interview (I had 3 all in all for this one).

I now have to go to London in a few weeks to do a presentation in front of the board of directors of one of the world's largest shipping companies! To say I am bricking it is an understatement!!!!

I do want this role; not only is the pay substantially more than my current earnings, it gets me back into the maritime field which I feel I am best suited in. But Christ, no matter how many times you are sat in front of strangers doing either formal presentations or meetings, it doesn't get ANY easier! I have a feeling this one is going to be extremely tough! Luckily I have some help. One of my old bosses has offered to give me some guidance as he is port manager at one of my old jobs when I worked in Ships Agency.

Will be looking to move back to Worcester I think if it all goes well. Only 45mins away from here, but I have more friends up there from my days with the MOD at Malvern.

I think I'll need it! Not holding my breath about it, but going to give it my all.

Go for it Si

Remember they are all just people.... they might be doing a different job from you, earning more, have more responsibility, but they are just people. All you have to is to talk to them about their subject ....where you have a common thread... bring your own ideas in, a couple that could help them with their business and you'll be home and dry.

Go for it !

Thanks Tony. Yup, you've hit the nail on the head. It's the angle I always try and approach it with. That strategy worked the first time round!

By the way, was nice to meet you a few weeks ago. Lovely Z you have there! :duffer:

I just found out that so far, I am the only person selected from another 4 that have actually managed to get through to the second interview!

Well done !....

Yes good to meet you to. That day Jeff did the power upgrade and then the next week a Mongosse exhaust...it's pushing out around 400 bhp now so I think the next job is traction control !

That's pretty good! Was nice to meet Jeff too! Got some spares for £0.00 which was an added bonus.

There was a GB going for Racelogic TC I think. Maybe you've already checked that anyway.

Yep

Jeff has told me he's looking into it and recommended the Race Logic anyway whether or not there was a group buy...

I'm waiting to hear what he says

Good luck Si, hope you can understand the accent  ;)

good luck, it sounds very promising, interviews can be daunting, but if you know that you have all the attributes and probably more that they are looking for, just be honest and yourself, usually works

Youll knock em dead Si!!

Keep a cool head and imagine them naked, that will give you the much needed smile!!

Just be yourself with a proffessional attitude and well presented appearance and thats all it should take, fingers crossed for you!!

what if they're female and he gets a stiffy imagining they're naked ?:x: good luck and well done for getting this far dude

I also have had to give presentations, get it down on paper, graphics, ect, and practice, use a stopwatch to time the lenth, It will feel strange talking to yourself but keep practicing and it will become a lot easier. Good luck.

I'm ok about doing presentations. I've given quite a few. It was always the thing I was good at at uni. (But still brick it whenever I do them and always will especially something as important as this!!) I'll be doing a powerpoint presentation with bullet points on the screen for me to expand on. Nothing fancy because it's me they are assessing not my IT skills. I'll have a professional look and be slick in appearance.

Good luck bud. I know how your feeling.

I just sat an assesment centre for a job a couple of weeks ago. It was an all day event involving prepairing a briefing, giving a presentation then an hour long interview at the end of it.

Fookin heavy going.

Just sat in a cafe round the corner from the offices I need to go along King William street in London City Centre (EC4). This cafe is packed with City Traders talking about mega money as it's in the heart of the financial district!

Kinda daunting as I'm just sat here, little ol' me, sipping tea and eating croissant shitting my pants about this interview!!! :o

Happy Christmas everyone!!

Ooops, looks like it's a bit late now, but Powerpoint can be a bit of a minefield if you don't use it right, this is useful guidance :-

Good Luck !

Mate youll be fine. You know the subject, otherwise you wouldnt have got this far!

Fingers crossed for you fella

If they had any doubts about you, you would not even be going for this interview, you obviously have what it takes to make the perfect impression. You will be fine, just do not brick it in the interview!! :D

Very best of luck to you.
