Anybody got one installed in thier zed and if so can they reccomend any particular brand, there is a few on ebay but i don't know what im looking for so can't decide if they are any good. Gonna get rid of the pointless digital clock and mount it there if i can find one that will fit.

They cool down by spooling down. Yes, you are partically correct. Basically they leave the engine running allowing the compressor assembly to cool from the lower gas temperatures in both the exhaust and intake tracts. At the same time the lubricating oil from the engine is able to circulate properly so the turbine won't burn the lubricating oil that would otherwise be trapped within the charger with the turbine rotating at high speed.

 

But allowing an engine and turbos to cool down naturally by running it at lower revs and off boost is a quicker way too cool the engine down.

 

So am i right in saying that diving off boost and leaving it standing for a couple of minutes are both good ways of doing the job but driving off boost is a quicker more efficient way of doing it???

so you remove the ignition key and lock the car up and the engine is still running for a few mins as you walk away, IS THAT WHAT THEY DO?????, if yes is the anwser, then there is no way i'm fitting one, i'd rather have a digital clock!

Pretty much. You have better oil circulation as you're not on idle. You also have air feeding the radiator, so everything stays a little cooler too.

Have you ever seen oil which has dribbled onto the manifold or exhaust when hot? it burns the oil and turns into hard black gummy carbon imagine that on the shaft of your turbos etc

The turbos get very very hot and in the dark you can see them glow red, if you turn the engine off with the tubs still glowing you can imagine the oil bubbling inside the turbo and sticking to the shaft the seals etc
