Fits in the slot where the clock is without too much hassle. Simple wiring harness connection withthe right cable. Type 1 does the auto from speed revs etc.

You can see it in this pic

You can get them in black so they blend in with the dash if you want.

My Profec b II boost control sits where my knackered clock was see below. Never fancied a turbo timer as I always wind the car up and down when coming and going but most of them as mentioned above have other useful functions also

Wasting your money mate just warm it up and cool it down for the first/last 3 or so miles.

Ditto. Never really seen the point in turbo timers.

TBH i can see the point in them, but i would'nt go to the trouble of fitting one, mine already had one :) I had a Volvo T5 and that did'nt have one, i just left it running for a couple of minutes when i had finished my journey and never used the turbo while it was still cold from start up.

Why didn't you just drive the last few mins off boost? A far better way than just leaving the car idling.

I'm sure I've read somewhere on here idling is not good for turbos

Cos i like driving full on :D

Seriously though, i did'nt know that, i was 18. How was i supposed to know if no-one told me, the only thing i was told was to leave it for a couple of minutes to let the turbos spool down, so i did :)

If thats the case, why do they make turbo timers?

arn't they meant to prolong the life of your turbos when your only doing short journeys or have i got the wrong end of the stick

i no there not road legal , it ilegal to leave your car running without someone being at the wheel ,:)

Doing long/short journeys makes no odds on turbo timers and how effective they are.

What they are suppose to do is to leave the car idling for a set period of time to help circulate oil round the turbos as they cool. The best way to cool turbos/engine down is just to plan ahead and drive off-boost for the last few miles. If you're doing very short journeys, the oil won't even have enough time to warm up, so you're advised not to use full boost in those instances.

If thats the case, why do they make turbo timers?

will try to find a linky.

This is my problem, i love to drive it full hammer as much as poss, and i can't leave my car on the drive ticking over once i get home cos there is lots of scum where i live and there is a very real chance it could get nicked. another thing, will the alarm i have cause a problem, its one of the cobra alarms with the tear drop fobs.

Just drive off boost for the last few minutes of your journey. Much better way of cooling the engine down AND it's free.

cars gonna cool better if its moving. I would think there's probably much more damage to be done at the warm up stage

maybe your right, prob not worth it, need to think of something to replace that pointless digital clock with.
profec b II boost controller sits nice as above :D

I was always told that the point of a turbo timer is to let the turbos 'spool' down not 'cool' down as they do not have an oil supply of their own and they use the engine oil, so if you stop the engine while the turbo are still working you are starving them of oil. Could be wrong but thats what i was told. :) So based on that a turbo timer does the job its suppoesed to do.

Like i said thats what i was told, i ain't no mechanic

A clock is not a pointless article.

mine was it didn't work :D

ive just fitted a 52mm analogue with my soon to arrive gauges in the din slot above my haed unit, having a digital one is pointless and looks shite

They cool down by spooling down. Yes, you are partically correct. Basically they leave the engine running allowing the compressor assembly to cool from the lower gas temperatures in both the exhaust and intake tracts. At the same time the lubricating oil from the engine is able to circulate properly so the turbine won't burn the lubricating oil that would otherwise be trapped within the charger with the turbine rotating at high speed.

But allowing an engine and turbos to cool down naturally by running it at lower revs and off boost is a quicker way too cool the engine down.
