Hi all. I have a load of very light scratches all over my paintwork. Looks like it's just in the lacquer. Looks like someone has washed the car previously in a carwash or sommat. What's the best way of getting these out? And what is the best make of whatever produst I could use?

I don't have a buffer and I currently use Autoglym Super Resin Polish and that just seems to clean the paintwork but not remove the scratches?

Do I apply G3 in the same way as normal polish? And do I use that first or do the colour magic first? I have no clue when it comes to bodywork lol.

you ideally need a buffer to do it right. you will never really get the same result doing it by hand.

you have got to remember there is a difference between a polish and a wax, take a look here it will help you choose something and give you a idea of how to do it, if its by hand try the sonus hand polish bundle, then if you havnt got a glass finish and there are still slight scratches try a wax with a high filler content

use a damp cloth put the g3 onto the cloth or bodywork and work intothe problem area's , it will make a difference and get rid of some of the lighter scratches and marks, for the deeper scratches it will need a buff, but as you dont have 1 forget about that ,

im noth sure if you can get hold of M3 handglaze if ya not in the trade but if you can get some ( from a paint supplier or bodyshop) get some its great and give the paint work a real as it says glaze,

Then its time for the waxing like i said turtle wax, colour magic any thing like that as long as it black this hide alot of sins you also get a chip stick to cover some of the stone chips , the instruction are on the back of the wax for guidence,

give it a try mate you'll be impressed,

been a prepper/polisher/painter since i left school and was with BMW GB for 8 of them years

wish you was closer mate i would of done it for free just to give you some idea how to use a buffer there a great bit of kit when you use them right,

hope all this helps :)

just 1 more thing you mite find it easier to wash the G3 off as sometimes it can be pretty hard if its left to dry for to long, also word of warning dont do any of the polishing or waxing in direct sunlight or if the car is hot especially the bonnet as it can bake on,

:)

m3 machine glaze is fandabbydozee for that glass finish

lol its geat stuff :D you wouldnt think it would do much the way it comes out the bottle its almost like a thick milk.....umm not gonna say what i was really thinking pmsl :D im going to hell :D

Cheerz boyz! I'll give the G3 a go. If it's bright sunshine I'll just do it where it is now - reversed into a garage. After application of the colour magic do you apply normal car polish? Also what about paint sealer? I have used a AutoGlym product (name of which escapes me atm).

Sorry to ask so many questions.

HAHA @ Milk.......

I know what you're saying about leaving that cutting paste on though, a few years ago I had a Pug 405 resprayed. It was in black, done in summer, and they took the time to wash it off.

I never got all the paste out of the mouldings, even with jetwash/carwash/scrubbing brush, nothing would. It set like concrete.

I put that car on it's roof @ 100mph tho so I wasn't too bothered about paste in the end LMFAO

Colour Magic does also contain some wax protection, although not as good as a proper wax.

If you already have Auto Glym Super Resin Polish then use that to seal in the shine and give that extra protection from the elements - for the price it's as good as any other.

Auto Express testing found Turtle Wax Platinum wax the best this year. Thing is, you can spend £££££s on products like Zymol and Meguairs and unless you own a show car that you never drive I don't think it's worth it. Sure the glossy shine may look better for a couple of days but in the UK with our erratic weather you need a long lasting wax that repels water and crap, not just one that shines.

Past and present Auto Express testing found Turtle Wax products excelled at protecting paint for longer. I know there are some purists that don't rate Turtle Wax but IMO independent consumer testing comparisons say more to me than a few opinions.......:x:

Richard:)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

pmsfl put it on its roof did that get rid of the G3 :D

autogleam extra gloss protection is great stuff, but you should really get an obital buffer and try meguirs 80 which is what i use, then a paint cleaner again meguirs is allright, then a good quality wax. The stuff i use is about £100 for all of it but it does last a long time.

hope this helps

heres the full routine bud

wash---speaks for itself

polish---removes imperfections

glaze ---adds depth and gloss to finish

seal---if you want all your previous work to go to waste ignore this step, you can get long term sealants as well which will protect everything you have done before, these are usually acryllic finishes and most people would stop at this stage as they are a finish of their own, if you want a real show finish dont stop now.

wax---this is the final gloss step, if you want a long term wax then thats fine but for that awesome gloss finish use p28's , you wont go back but it is a short term wax and will need a reapply every month

pmsfl put it on its roof did that get rid of the G3 :D

HAHA I dunno mate I was too busy watching the orange sparks comming from the 'A' pillar
