having owned a fast road auto and now a manual 300zx i find the manual box rubbish, its notchy not very precise and now the dump valves going off every 2 seconds pisses me off.

my FR auto would kill my manual every day of the week.

2 different clutches in mine and its still shite.

i loved the double kick from the auto, the first when it kicked down and the secone when the turbo's spooled up. could not tell which was which but it put a smile on my face

my last zed was an auto.. allbeit as good as stock, i too enjoyed driving it. it was still always a pleasure, but it lacked power in certain places when i wanted it... kick down at the right rpm/gear was the nuts, but at others, it was embarrassing and sluggish! i had all the settings and voltages checked for the kick down and gear changes etc but it appeared to be the norm :( i suppose with a car as powerful as yours, that down point gets somewhat 'drowned out' by the fact that kick down at any rpm is likely to snap your seat base mounts and see you upside down in the boot reading the japanese instructions for the targa bags!

Joely if you had driven mine even when I was running a stock set up you would have been amazed at the difference between a stock auto and the fast road conversion auto.

NEVER EVER did a manual Z beat it to 100 and the changes were so fast that if you blinked you would miss them

im sorry, but manuals are NOT crap.

whether youve got prehistoric fluid, shagged synchros or *****x'd linkages, manuals are not crap.

Autos take so much of the experience away from driving the zed!!!!

8ace manuals are the way to go and dont let any tell you any different!

wrong way round, they zed with its power an torque make it such an effortless car to drive, the manual takes all that away.

Its amazing that some people actually think the Z manual box is good

Stick a fastroad autobox back in and lets see it scatter its insides all down the road behind you ;) ...but not before checking out the power loss to the rear wheels on the dyno and its dampened performance on the road

For Mac_1 power perhaps a different Manual box is needed, but not an autobox.

3rd gear is my fav, engine seems to deliver its power at its best and its such a flexible gear

Oi before you make silly comments like that check out what Z in the US is doing 9 second 1/4 mile times and also check to see what box its running

I've not checked but is it a 3 speed Autobox developed just for dragging ? If all you want is to go fast up a 1/4 mile strip then thats fine....I believe your car is built for more than that though

dont help that my FR auto beat a UK spec supra turbo in the dry, murdered a Tuned Imprezza RA and kept with a GTR skyline both in the pouring down rain. My manual got its arse kicked by a 645i because i missed a friggin gear LOL

SWB are crap too as they look like they have been chopped and welded back together

Taking on board that driving a manual is more involving , I just don`t want my left leg to be so constantly involved driving in London traffic .

So , auto for my particular circumstances . It still goes like fook , though !

:D

thats the general consensus in my eyes chap... 'most' auto drivers drive them because it suits there driving requirements...

Ive never heard of an autobox conversion hmmm i wonder why?

manuals are worth more money

See how far you get on a track day with an auto.

try to drift with an auto.

you cant heel and toe

You cant practice launches

unpredictable on the throttle

Its boring and only good in traffic.

i hate autos they make the car sound sluggish and gearchanges some boring.

If you wanted an auto buy an old merc.

sorry but ive just got a thing about autos gggrrrr

auto driver dont mind stopping as they dont have to spend the next 10 mins trying to get the crap gearbox in 1st

10 mins trying to get the crap gearbox in 1st

if your having to do that, then theres something wrong with the box, or the driver :D

You definatly got a fault with with yours then. Possibly a Clutch hydraulic issue. Gear selections should be smooth and effortless.

will its a new clutch supposedly so it might be a syncro, but i just dont enjoy driving it like my FR auto.
