im will also have all the plugs out, so shouldnt need to have throttle on.

but should i disconnect the ptu so i dont get a spark?

First of all, do it when the engine is warm. Secondly remove the fuse for the fuel, its in the little fuse box in the top left hand corner of the engine in a row of 4 or 5 fuses, its the one on the far right. Oh and do them on full throttle, ie then you turn the engine over do it with the accelerator on the floor. You should only need the to the engine over 4 or 5 cycles for it to show full compression.

If you get a low reading on a cylinder (anything below 140psi), poor a tiny bit of oil into the cylinder. If this improves the reading, your looking at piston rings, if not i think its headgasket or poor valve seating.

HTH and fingers crossed for you fella

how am i guna see the result if im in the car turning the ignition gggrrrrr. do i need someone to help?

because the compression gauge holds its peak reading until you release the pressure by pressing the little button on the side

ahhh i see, thought so. well i hope its a good one coz its me mates and i aint seen it yet.

ok well im off to do the test fingers crossed....

bye

doesn't the compression tester have a max hold on it then you press a reset/release button to start again IIRC?

You cant get a spark with no plugs ;) :p Remove fuel pump fuse though.

Compression tester will show peak until you reset it.

lets just say i took the readings from number 6 and 4 and they are not good so i didnt go any further..

engine rebuild on its way ;)

going to start looking around soon.

forged pistons uprated bottom end.

bigger injectors too :)

is that a good thing or a bad thing? sounds as though you were kinda expecting it?

yeah i was kinda expecting it.

i want an engine rebuild.

cant expect to much from an engine thats had 18 years of thrashing.

Im already looking at options.

yeah i love them wheels.

Ok well im doing my research on a rebuild... hmmm think im guna budget between 2500 and 3000 not sure what to do about the turbos yet.

number 6: 60-70 psi

number 4: 100-110

ouch ! :( Perfect excuse for a performance rebuild then :)

are you doing it yourself?

i dont think so.

cant make up my mind.....

scott at nexus has impressed me. Think il let him take care of it.

i know 2500 isnt enough for what i want tho.

did you put a teaspoon of oil in to see if it is block or head?

yep i did a wet and dry test. compression was incrseased with a touch of oil

The head i hope is ok.

Im just waiting on jimmers reply :)
