I use fuch semi syn 75/90 in my gearbox and shes sweet as a nut.we keep it at work for vans which is a bonus.

then i may aswell keep using that stuff? i was just looking at chucking some on with my z1 order as they are only £4.50 a bottle and i thought it was the nuts in the world of gear oils...

should i use the same stuff that is in my g/b for the diff?

Gearbox and diff is supposed to use slightly different spec, but I used the same.

It is crucial with the diff oil to get the correct weight of oil because it is a viscous LSD and will not work as it should without the correct spec.

Will it be a stock rebuild or upgraded?

Nissan Uprated the 3rd and 4th gear cluster and syncromesh to the Nismo (proberbly OS Giken) fron 96 onwards so any new Nissan replacement clusters and syncro's are uprated, but still same ratios.

Not cheap though. Almost cheaper to buy a new box.

Absolutely agree. Don't think the oil is a different weight, just a slightly different spec). The decision was made with Oilman's advice.

Read it somewhere long time back.

Andy, are you sure what you read wasn't about redline MTL as this is what used to be recommended but is the incorrect weight?

Hey out of interest I've just checked with Mr Nissan and the 4Th Gear syncro is now only £156.44 for the latest revision. Which provided the cluster isn't too badly worn is a reasonable price.

Thats fine until you discover you have to buy an entire kit of parts, shafts etc because the syncro is a different size :( Quote I had was over £1k just in parts.....

I new that it was and £800 job. Like I said earlier in this thread. However Mr Nissan has told me I can Have the reviesed syncro for my Zed ie from Chasis number for that price and it will fit.

Unreal

LOL until they take the box apart - it won't fit, trust me

Not to mention the cost of fitting it in the box, plus removal/replacement. That's why bought a new box.

I know. Mr Nissan gave my 300ZX (L300TTT) a full free service for buying a Brand New Nissan Patrol SE Touring. They did a really good and thorough Job even changed all the brake fluid.

If anyone knows Hartwell Nissan in Chester they know its on the Holt Road and it wasn't until i came to the first serious set of bends that required a great reduction of speed to negotiate. That I discovered they hadn't tighten the bleed valves and first press of the peddle deposited the fluid all over the rear wheels, rear wings and tyres.

All I can say is that curbs do deflect you back into the road, but it does destroy your wheels.

This is just one of many Nissan dealer stories I have had and if you want to know the rest you'll have to buy my book.

  you serious? hope you screwed them for nearly killing you?

I will be trying Royal Purple engine oil on my next change, which will probably be before Le Man. Out of all the forums ive looked at, ive not read a single bad remark about it.

I would do the 'box and diff oils, but they were only changed 20 months ago.

Ditto, were on an 8am ferry from Dover to Dunkerque. Cant decide whether to take the zed or the new 525d M Sport that the missus picks up next month

royal purple any more news from joely or nick!! what do ya think??!?!?

want to do the gearbox oil not wanting to use mt90 now!!

il let you know when my 56k gearbox is no longer hanging on by a thread and a get a decent one fitted... unfortunately my engine and gearbox warranty didnt cover my gearbox failing so il have to wait till i get some readies together!

:(

dextron 2 was recommended by my local gearbox specialist when i asked them about my gearbox wen i rebuilt it, as the mt90 is to thick, the company said what do the yanks know about manual gearboxes they only know about tractors lol

mt90 is the same thickness as Nissan use when the box comes out of the factory.
