how fast how u been in ya zed?

so last night had a chase with a audi tt, took my beastie upto 152, but due to poor brakes and knowing the limiter was going to ruin the party, i eased off. However, i know that once me boost controller, and chip are in place then its gonna be capable of a lot more. So question is what are the limits guys? top end? how fast ya been?

nope, he went past me at about 120, whilst i was on cruise at 90, i took up the chase, and was catching him, but i reckonhe was holding 145+, it had a german plate i think.

I've had my Z past the Jap 120mph marker and round to the end stop at 0 with the needle looking like it was going to fall off!!

Must be about 160ish

Will find out when I get my new 180mph dials fitted.

Steve I left a AudiTT FOR DEAD,was doing a rolling start at 80mph LOL,it was a tiny spec within about 30 seconds wink.gif

Answer to the topic 176mph on my Blitz ID meter but had to back off!!!

mac1,

i looked into the audi, and it turns out that the more pwerful one is not distributed here in the uk, which is capable of 151mph (225bhp),british version 140mph, so it looks like it was a non uk one, as it had german reg plate), however, had i had boost controller etc like your car, then i could have had the ppleasure of waving to him as i went by!!! biggrin.gif

Sorry but 225bhp TT is sold in the UK, a good friend of mine has one. He bought it new from the Audi garage in Canterbury. I think I'm right in saying that the 225 can be destinguished from the other model by twin pipes out of the back (prepared to be corrected if I'm wrong biggrin.gif)

And if you ain't humiliated a TT owner in a Zed costing a 5th of theirs, you ain't lived.

Tim

The best way to humilliate an audi TT. Just park next to him, you dont even have to start your engine

I'd like to see some of these speed claims backed up by some facts, like a GPS. Not taking the piss but at higher speeds Zed speedos are as accurate as the oil and turbo gauges !

I just put a UK speedo in my import and now it reads 11% fast ! I have to calibrate it next time I have a long straight piece of road, an agile (and willing) passenger with a small screwdriver and my GPS.

Incidentally, the figure on the Techtom is very close, which proves that the speed sensor is good, it's just the speedo that's needs correction. And of course if the speedo is 10% fast then the odometer also over reads by 10% thereby screwing up mpg calcs.

I've got a Blitz iD meter coming soon and need to calibrate the speedo on it. What's the best way?

How accurate do they claim the speed reading is on a GPS unit?

How accurate is the Blitz ID meter and how does it make it's measurements. It's not an accelerometer is it ?

GPS, presuming the signal is good, will be pretty accurate, within 1mph I think.

VERY ACCURATE! had mine tested with police gear tongue.gifIt wires into the speed sig in the ECU.

Andy is right, my Techtom reads alot more accurately than the shite speedo!

Andy let me borrow his GPS at SE the other week and on the way back to his house the GPS and Techtom were bang on with each other and my speedo at higher speeds was reading between 5-11mph faster.

225 bhp Audi TT is sold here as Tim says and caining one should be childs play. I killed them in my Supra(232bhp lard arse auto) and very nearly nailed one in my Captain Kirk Cossie(179bhp N/A lard arse German Tank auto) but they are pretty quick, just look arse! LOL biggrin.gif

You also have to remember that manufacturers top speed claims are usually under estimated by quite a bit.

Z is capable of 200mph, my old Mk III Supra was booked at 143 but I took it past 150 and still a bit left. Sierra Sapphire Cossie I had a go with a while back was keeping up with me neck and neck pretty much at around 155 but then I started to pull away as he was still accelerating but not as much guts under his bonnet as mine.

Then the only difference for yours will be down to the difference between the rolling circumference of your aftermarket wheels - that won't be very much I don't think.

At Elvington airfield (1.9 miles) the speed trap at 1.25 miles printed me out a 156.2mph but the speedo read 162mph. So I guess the best run I have had at 171mph on the speedo was really only 166mph. Would be nice to get it on a banked test track to lay flat out. Mira, Nurburgring or Rockingham?

To be fair that is BLOODY accurate at that speed. Maybe you have non-standard wheels which are compensating for the inaccuracy of the speedo.

Don't mean to go off topic, but if I ever get my Jap Dustbin reliable enough to last more than a week on the road! LMFAO biggrin.gif I would love to have a go round the Nurburger-ringpiece. Maybe next summer would be something to organise?

AndyP - yeah I'm running 18" wheels so I guessed they may be helping a bit, 6mph at that speed is quite acceptable.

Timmy - OMG I so want to do the Ring in the Z we got to sort out a weekend trip next summer! Its only like a £10 or so to go round once plus fuel, ferry and sleep in car? Got to be worth it!

Ohhhh Errrr..... did someone rattle the cage of the common as muck little hairdresser brigade?!? Ahhhh....must be sad to buy an 'exclusive' Golf with a body kit, and then find everyone and his mum has got one. Can't move around here without falling over the little jelly molds.

I do know this for a fact before my diff blew over christmas 2001 my car (UK Z) could very easly tram over 150mph,but after not being able to find a uk diff i had to settel with one from a jap import diff, these are without an axel oil cooler.Know the car takes alot longer to reach 150mph and can never top out the same speed as my uk axel.I did post mail about this in January this year about why UK spec is different to the Japs, but i never did find out why.

Thats strange, as far as I know its only the NA 300ZX that has a different diff ratio.

I think UK and Japanese TT diffs are the same ratio, and the only difference being the Oil Cooler, and that should only affect reliablity not top speed.

Charlie - Couldnt an Oil Cooler be retro-fitted to your Japanese Diff?

Or are the casings totally different?

Hi Trev,i had brought my jap twin turbo auto diff from a guy named andy who is also on this site around December. And evern though the axels looked the same there was two differences, one was there were no takeoffs to reconect the oil cooler, two there were a few teeth short on one of the diffs crown wheel and i dont mean they were broken either. The diff ratio was different and when my local gararge pointed this out to me you can onlt imagion how pissed of i was.I could not lacate a UK one so setteld for a Jap one.

So now there are differences in the way the car performes, like the auto box changes earlyer and evern though it ecselerates fast it is not as fast past 130 mph.I am used to it now but there was a decisive differance when i picked it up from the gararge. So beware the axel caseing looks the same but the crown wheel and pinion was different
