Hi Everybody,

im new to this site and have just bought a 300zx 3 days ago. i took it for the MOT today and got failed on the rear fog because it was wired into what used to be the rear brake light in the spoiler!

Is this legit as as far as i can work out this was done professionally and don't really want to change it if i can avoid it, and if anybody knows of any official documentation i can take down to the testing centre and slap it in the testers face

let me know if anybody has any info

thanks in advance

Danny

I think it has to be below the level on the normal braking lights for it to be classed as a fog light.

I believe if there is a brake light it needs to work and it needs to work as a brake light. Could be wrong, but i'm pretty sure that is the case. HTH.

ok where are your rear fogs wired too, are they stand alone or are they into an existing light

I have aftermarket rear lights, so don't have a problem. However my dad's is wired to one side on the center panel with a red bulb in there instead of the white one. WHich will leave you with one side for reversing and one side is a fog lamp, always passes mot no probs. HTH.

think he called it on the point about a light being adversley affected by the operation of another light, not much i can do really apart form mount one in the reverse light. although there then is the same argument, just want it to pass!!!

MMM doesnt say there it has to be lower than the brake lights.

But still I wouldnt use a high level brake light as a fog light as it would confuse other drivers.

It would'nt be the same argument as one side is reverse and one side is fog, you are only required to have one reverse and one fog - Perfect. :D My dad has had his car for years and never had a problem.

I used the offside reverse light with a red led bulb and ita passed the MOT.

Just re route the wire from the high level break light and wire it in to the reverse light, easy job.

No worries buddy :) hope all else goes smoothly with the mot. :D

your not required to have a reverse light at all

My car passed the MOT last March red fog light bulb wired to off side reversing light holder. Due again on the 14th of March. So what was good last year shouid stand good for this year I recon.

It sounds as though it could be down to individual MoT station interpretation. My previous Zeds had the fog light routed through the inner brake lights via a relay and always passed the test. My latest Zed had the same and apparently it was failed and the previous owner paid for a dangly model to be fitted on the rear bumper. Needless to say, thats gone now.

No, tis a black one with a flail mower of a spoiler on the back which will shortly be going. It is quite well known in the SW region and goes like stink with a 386 bhp rolling road result but sadly was a bit chaved up. We are getting there tho;.(see my rides)

i'd go for what old zed said and use the inner brake lamps via a relay.(i say this as i did his)

by doing it this way you get all lights operating as should be.

4 brake lamps (not including center one) 2 reverse (untouched) and 2 fog.

if you want to do it like this let me know and i'll tell you how.
