The previous owner said that he had the cam belt changed and all the seal etc etc. so why would there still be an oil leak from the front pulleys?

I dont want to have a mechanic take everything apart just to find that its not the problem, then have to pay more to find the leak?

whats the cause of oil leaking here as ive just spent hours reading up on previous threads with the same problem.

im also getting oil leaking onto the nearside turbo causing it to smoke a little under the bonnet??? could the leak from the cam travel this far as the oil could splatter off the fan belts etc?

Make sure its not your power steering leaking. Obviously you will be losing a bit of fluid from the power steering resevoir if this is the case. Mine used to smoke from under the near side of the bonnet and ocassionally from the near side front wheel arch. It's a relatively easy fix if its just a pipe thats split.

Im almost sure its not that as i looked under the car at the tub and its black oil doesnt look like steering fluid to me. and the steering fluid level has not budged.

it smokes more if you have been booting it.

cam cover leaking a bit of oil perhaps.

I dont understand how it could be the cam cover as its just a plastic cover no?

cam shaft cover ffs! rocker cover whatever you want to call them

your on about the timing belt cover

the camshaft covers under the plenum(inlet manifold) there are 4 of them and can leak oil onto the exhaust manifolds and tubs!! :headvswal

oh you mean rocker cover... hmmmmmm it looks very clean under the bonnet apart from the front where the cam belt is etc, its just a right mess underneath the car. i have tried my best to clean up the mess so i can have a fresh look at where the oil could be coming from.

was hoping people had a common problem with this kinda leak but i guess not.

maybe i have two oil leaks..... oooooo the never ending list....

hes a funny guy this one ;)

Did you get my thank you for the picture?

i appriecated that very much so yes i did indeedy :)

they can leak they are the yellow bits in the pic just incase you wasn't sure!

its the most likely cause especially if you are due a service and the old oil is thin.

otherwise i would suspect oil feed pips to the turbo.

just serviced it,

i had a look at the oil feed pipe on that side there was oil on it but also oil above it. like i said will have to have a look once the oil is clean and i can see where its coming from. wouldnt hurt to tighten up that pipe anyway.

it is proberly the rocker cover gaskets there prone to leaking from the rear corners and running down all sort of weird places ,i noticed oil dripping from the passenger turbo and thought the worst{blown turbo} but when mech checked it out it is coming from above the turbo oil pipes and the only place that oil can come from above them them is the cam covers ,but like i said they are prone to leaking in the old age

you will need a few gaskets to do the job eg plenun, egr, intake, balance bar etc and while your at it it is advisable to do the injector o rings at the same time ,speak to mike at mjp {check under traders } and he will sort you out the nesesary bits and bobs ,hth

ps scuse the spelling im on my 6th san miguel ll

And if it isnt that? takes alot of time to get the plenum off and i hate the thought of having lots of little bits and pieces to put back in the correct place.

then you have renewed the most likely causes and can breath a sigh of relieve that they shouldn't leak for another 5-10 years!

have you changed your oil? if not change it . mine were leaking and an oil change stopped it! but its just a temp solution really . i already have the gaskets for when it starts again!

well if it isnt that then at least youve eliminated a future problem ,but if youve looked every were else !!!!!!!

Yep oil just changed.

roughly how long a job is it to do? taking of the plenum etc?

parts shouldnt be expensive? just gaskets.

i paid about £50 for all the gaskets needed (genuine nissan)

i would budget a weekend for your first time!

mike at mjp has them all in stock ready for next day delivery and i know this as i spoke to him earlier today about mine and as that smarty pants above  says there about 50 notes for the set and about 36 quid for the injector o rings if you deside to do them at the same time
