How can you be sure a car is detting?

 

i know it makes that crackling noise but when that noise goes away is there a way to tell its gone completly?

 

Im finding it hard to keep at 14 psi with no detting...

 

most of you know ive fitted a manual boost control the ball bearing type.. and my mods are in my signature below.

 

ive also disconnected the actuator solenoids (well i think its the correct solenoid connectors) anyway is there anything else i should be doing, i havent had my timing checked btw.....

Is the detting getting worse? Do you change your fuel filter and chuck in some injector cleaner every once in a while?

How can you be sure a car is detting?

 

Build yourself a set of det cans and listen to the engine.. ears are the best det. detectors ;)

 

(Or, as someone said, get it on a RR where they use det cans and do the listening for you)

bin the boost controler and fit 1mm tips,re-connect your boost solanoids so at least iff the dett is bad your car will go into safe boost to protect engine,make sure you run v-power and allso to much advance on ignition timing will allso give you dett and finally do you have an acurate boost gauge to moniter as the nissan one is not very good

fuel filter changed and yes i always chuck in some injector cleaner thats become a habit.

 

I think im quite good at listening out for det once i hear it i let of the pedal. but im sure i was running more boost at one stage seems that i cant run as much now, car feels slow.

i also reconnected the actuator solenoids to see the diference, and i was getting some funny business, think it was spike, but then he boost would rise again then decrease strange.

with the actuator solenoids connected shouldnt it return to safe mode if it dets?

I used 1mm mig tips a while back and had the solenoids connected and it would just revert to safe boost after a couple bursts.

 

how can i check the advance timing? conzult or something?

 

also good boost gauge present.

my car detted once in a 30 mile journey home from garage . Now I have a F@#cked engine 2-3k bill it's not worth the risk m8 don't chase th hp unless you got the ££££££'s

i noticed the warning light on once on ebc so eased off. When i got home and checked next day it had hit 21.1psi and I now have a screwed engine which looks like holey pistons and am not hte happiest bloke in the world

hitting 21psi must of felt things werent right surely

this is with 0.8 tips and servere dett,wish pic had sound you would cringe :(

It smokes on deceleration after boost starts and runs ok dipstick pops out and pi##es oil everywhere. It going for a rebuild shortly :cry: pressure hit 21.1psi.... spike or whatever peak was monitered by ebc stock injectors only go to about 15max hence I have a very expensive ornament. On the bright side I have a smokeless car to look forward to after the build :)

trust me some of the det noises my z has made were loud, proper crackling, eletric, destruction lemme make a hole in your piston kinda noise. :) suprised it hasnt blown yet.

im just guna have to set it lower for now but its no fun. but hay either is forking out 3k for a rebuild.

sounded like pipes rattling about in the dash by then it was too late by the looks it was dark at the time and did not see smoke that night

i had it fitted at a z garage which I was told was set at most users setting which would give 14 psi .........guess what ?....It F###king wasn't sorry to sound bitter but I'm upset. I read a guide beforehand and it said work your way up...I trusted someone else in the know? It's going elsewhere from here in

Can't say on here it will get edited the car has done less than 50 miles since fitting 3 weeks ago and is sha##ed emails and pm's sidestepped couldn't be arsed after that I have enough on my plate at moment. Looking forward to build though just wish I could afford some nice big tubs

how can i set the pre ignition timing correctly so it doesnt det?

 

By adjusting the CAS unit with a Timing Strobe light to 15 degrees
