Z-car usually refers to a series of sports cars manufactured by Nissan. Early on they were released under Nissan's Datsun brand name.

Starting out in 1969 with the 240Z, the Datsun Z-cars have been popular in Japan, where they are known as the Fairlady Z (Note: the Fairladys used 2000 cc L series motors), the United States, and the United Kingdom. Despite their good looks, reliability, and strong performance, they have been remarkably affordable automobiles. The Nissan Z cars also currently holds the record of best selling sports car of all time with around 1,685,000 in five generations.

5 Generations of the Z car ...

1.1 The First Generation (S30): 240Z, 260Z, 280Z (1969–1978)

1.2 The Second Generation (S130): 280ZX (1978–1983)

1.3 The Third Generation (Z31): 300ZX (1984–1989)

1.4 The Fourth Generation (Z32): 300ZX (1990–1999)

1.5 Nissan 240Z Concept (1999)

1.6 The Fifth Generation (Z33): 350Z (2003–present)

Cocaine by the looks of things

... The 280 was a ZX, the 260Z 2+2 was a one off lol. ...

And what about the 280Z 2+2 (US only model, 260 2+2 shell with a 2.8 Ltr Injected engine)? ;)

Anyway, mine has 300ZX on the rear and a Z badge on the front (well it should. but it's gone missing  )

well all i can say that if Clarkson was wearing a Z shirt and it had no 300zx on, then according to Nissan it aint one, and i aint arguing with them lol!!

Oh good I'm glad that I can come in my 280ZX and join the Zs (S30s and Z33)

I hope that there will be other non Zs there like the Z31s and Z32s if they are not going to be there it might be an idea to invite them as well as guests

id ask Mr K the answer but some idiot ripped his head off last night lol

So what make a true "Z" car then?

(No pics of the TV series please!! LOL)

Nissan refers to the Z32 as "the fourth generation Z car".

If it was a Z car then it would have been called a 300Z. The 280 was a ZX, the 260Z 2+2 was a one off lol. Why was the 350 not called a 350ZX? It had more luxury options than the 300ZX. Z car is a sports car, ZX is a GT car. While the 300ZX does have some heritage, it is NOT a Z car sorry

........I have to ask, why the "Z" badging then?

All Z/ZX cars carried the same "Z" badge until the 350Z, where the "Z" character was updated a little ;)

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

What is the difference between a sports car and a Gt car?

What is the difference between a sports car and a Gt car?

A Sports car like the 350Z is slower than a Grand Touring car like the 300ZXTT :D

so did the X symbolise a Z gt car?

My first JDM 300ZX Z32 came with a leather bound folder with a handbook and original sale documents....All mentioned the Fairlady Z but 300ZX was hardly mentioned at all!

The front cover of the folder had an embossed script which read Fairlady Z too!
