personally i think that if i was a seasoned member then i would be feeling pretty shitty right now!

like i said when the whole thing was mentioned about membership,i thought you could not expect to get hundreds of membership forms come rolling in as this is a small forum with a core residence of about 20-50 members.

if you will remember i suggested that you mainly look for sponsorship from companies who make money off ur site rather than looking at ur members.

although i do think that membership at the cost you suggest is very reasonable and fair.

maybe you should give the guys who use the forum a shock!

by way of banning posts off those members who are posting and not paying their membership.im sure you could do this on this site until you get the money needed to get ya next site set up.

for people to send money, it is irrelevant how many have already done it. just as it is irrelevant how long you have been a member.

if that is the case, then as far as i'm concerned, it looks like noone is interested because noone sent money to me to fund it.

if you read the reasons why i have asked for membership to fund the forum, you will know it is because the forum could disappear at any time and there is nothing i can do about it. new or old member, its this reason alone that you should worry about.

 

 

as far as sponsorship goes, what company is going to sponsor this little playground at the moment ? pampers ? cow&gate ? fisher price ? the same goes with advertising.

 

but i have spoken to some of them, of which some are more receptive to helping than others.

 

once the forum is funded by the members that appreciate it, then we can enforce proper rules and tariffs, because it really will be in everyones interest to do that

 

and maybe then, some of the companies wont think i am only in it just for the money, and actually be inclined to contribute.

 

i never wanted to make this an exclusive pay to post forum, there is no point. and i dont want to blackmail people into sending me money.

 

it has to be a conscious decision by them, otherwise they are not really serious about the forum....

 

all i wanted to do was to make sure that if people know that they want the forum to stay, then they could contribute towards putting it somewhere that can be funded fairly easily, and can be a focal point for creating a proper club that more than 2 people can take responsibility for

Craig is absolutely right. As a marketing suit, when this forum gets poisonous, no way will anyone want to be associated with it. When it's going well, everyone looks like a lot of good enthusiasts helping each other out. This is worth supporting.

 

If you want this forum to get support and even to turn into a club, please will you think about this before reaching for the keyboard.

i got a static ip at the end of my adsl line, but i dont hink it is suitable...

 

seriously, the hardware is not really the problem, it's finding the right place to host.

 

there are hosting deals with dedicated server, shared server, or just space and connection

 

the problem is, a good deal now might not be a good deal once the bandwidth limit is exceeded, or the server goes down at 1am, or you turn up with a tower case instead of a 1u rackmount... etc., etc

 

i am waiting until i know what sort of budget i have, before i decide on who/where to host the site and server.

 

everyones offers are much appreciated, and being considered.

 

problem is, it needs to be somewhere commercially supported this time, as taking advantage of your status as an employee anywhere can be a bit dodgy when you leave...

I find it very hard to believe that the entertainment that Timmy Turbo has brought to this forum has caused anyone any offence and made them leave.

As for everyone thinking the same about him as you that's total bollocks matey.

 

The problem is that some people can't keep their mouths shut when hiding behind a keyboard. None of this would happen if we were all at a meet would it? Or do you all meet up and start fights?

 

I am quite willing to donate some hardware for the server etc and it's hardly going to cost a fortune to get the site hosted or get a static IP. I intend to send my donation but have been tied up with other things lately.

 

How about changing the site so your full name and address has to be entered in your profile. You could then be sent a bill (which would make things seem a bit more official and get things moving) and if you haven't paid within a month you get locked out? Might encourage us all to get a move on.

 

 

Make it so you get on and look but cannot post until you join. PayPal was a great idea! Make it so that it is £20 per year automatically out of your bank account or credit card and then you get full membership no chasing ever just take the money from people! Oh and Nico or Craig should delete any posts that are considered abusive or threatening and if someone does it more than 3 times they get booted off for a month.
