Hi guys.. Got a major problem with my suspension. The car has been fine but it has been squeeking for quite a while and never thought that there was anything wrong / to worry about so i thought i would put up with it until i get it serviced and get it checked over.

About 10 mins ago i went to fill up with some petrol which is just around the corner.. Got their fine, but on the way back i heard something grinding. I got home and found this to my horror!

Thanks for the info andy.

It certainly was very lucky that i wasnt out and about.. Who knows what would of happened!

Hellraiser - I dont know what make they are mate, these were obviously fitted in Japan as i havent touched the suspension. What are the powertrix ones like as im thinking about buying them from Smithys.

Rob

when you say they had been squeeking before was it like a squelchy sqeeky noise when you hit a bump because thats what mine are doin i just thought it was a bush or something like that but i aint no mech

Nope, don't look like Powertrix adjustable upper arms to me. I've got one new set in stock (which is provisionally sold) and will check if I can let you have this set and order a new set for the existing customer. Will PM you later.

Cheers,

Dan

The noise was constant where ever i drove, It was also people dependant.. Eg: the more people that got in the car the more squeeking it would make. The sound was like a mouse squeeking 24/7, Really high pitched. Was rather annoying but never thought anything of it.

Hi Dan, Thanks for the PM mate. Let me know ASAP what this customer of yours is doing mate.

Much appreciated

Cheapest place for some upper arm adjusters is driftworks mate 08458692555

mine was about £115 delivered.

Bloody hell, Cant believe those have failed like that, the powertrix ones are good. Just thank urself lucky you didnt have an accident, probably worth haveing a good look at the lower arms where the tension rods bolt through, they can crack. When you change them, do the other side first, set the new ones to the same length as the old by putting the bolts through and locating the new one to the same length, try to keep the ammount on thread showing each side of the adjusting nut the same, and make sure the collars are tight. Only other thing is that the tqo through bolts have a slightly different diameter, so make sure they go back as they were, its not a huge difference but alligning the third link holes up with upper arm can be a pain as you need to apply quite abit of pressure to hold it in place while you knock the bolt through.

Excellant bit of advice there bud

Powertrix ones also come with instructions including pics for fitting.

It is also worth mentioning a couple of misconceptions as regards adjustable upper arms.

Arms listed as r32/z32 are actaully R32 fitment, whilst they will fit the Z32, the offset where it fits onto the body perch is NOT the same, until the late 90's people fitted r32/z32 arms because of the closeness in their fitting and Z32 only arms were not readialy available.

Kuah from SPL in the US discovered this and had his arms manufactured to fit just the Z32 only but using sealed koyo bearings, Powertrix then followed suit.

Both SPL and Powertrix state the material used for manufacture and the static load rating of the arms, other companies do not! also they use sealed bearings whereas most cheaper ones use grease nipples.

For more detailed info on the importance of using the correct arms, click link below and enlarge if need be to see picture of what can happen if using the incorrect arm.

Oh and driftworks, who state none of the important relevant info on their arms, charge 185, plus delivery ? for r32/z32 arms, for the sake of 20-30 quid is it worth it ??

cheers

1 of my uppers cracked after lots of squeeking a few years back (old style adjustables), figured it was because at the time i didnt have adjustable lowers which of course i do now.
