ok before i begin , to some of you im known to some of you im not to some of you you would wish i died many years ago , :smash:

ok thats that cleared up ,

As you can see im not a stranger to the 300zx site and was a 300zx owner, and a member of this club what i want to ask you is ----

could you honestly say your zed has been reilable to a point , be honest i mean apart from regular wear and tear , discs pads and clutches etc , im seriously thinking of coming back to zed ownership as im bored of owning a evo ,

many of me friends on there say im mad , but only one of them has owned a zed apart from me ,and the zed burned a whole in my pocket yes but it also burned a flame on my soul i cant get rid off ,

both of us went to bad mechanic yes , which kind of ended a sweet dream i had as a kid of owning a zed .dont ask! :slap:

anyways just want to get some feedback of owners in the last year and wanted to know if you have ever regreted owning or buying a zed ?

I didnt with mine i never regreted buying it i just regreted what it cost me to keep it , but lately ive just bin thinking i had real bad luck and no one can say i didnt spend money on my zed to get it right only to be foiled by past items bought to keep it in good health ,

so in short convince me !

welcome all coments ,

from those ive had run ins with and those i havent above all be honest and i hope the swear filter is on !! :nana2: :nana2:

in 1 year of ownership just a clutch change(cost 300)- i did 15000 miles in 1 year from hot to very cold snowy and icy drives.from local driving to driving to scotland and bac, right now another person has my engine, so very reliable if you get the right one.

Same as any 300bhp 17 year old car. Needs a lot of care and things go wrong a lot!

Most of the components on the car have now reached their life expectancy and if have not already been changed will need to be soon.

Engine, body, and interior. Car makers expect a tops of 15 year life expectancy. And after that point to keep in top condition is a job for the enthusiast.

So unless your prepared to pour lots of cash into the car, go buy something new.

That’s my honest opinion.

I don’t think the 300zx is inherently unreliable; it’s just past its natural lifespan and as such needs constant care/renewal.

I think if you buy a good one it can be very reliable.

I'm on my second Zed and I can't think of anything I would rather drive.

FYI - there is a lovely black NA manual for sale on Zclub, going cheap!

Hi Paul

I can honestly say that I have had very reliable Zeds and that any trouble I've had with Zed's has always been as a result of either accident damage, but most importantly and expensively Via shoddy garages and also after the car has been to body shops. Twice now to body shop and Turbo failed shortly after.

I have found 2 good mechanics that I would trust to work on my cars. One is Andy Duff, who is a great guy and a good mechanic who knows these cars. The other is Phil at C & S Wood who IMO is top man because he does it with a cherry on top.

I hope Andy doesn't think I'm doing him down and plenty here will testify that I have recomended him and PM'd them with his number.

Im about to jinx this.....

I've had my 300ZX (TT imprort) since Feb 2006 and the only problem I've had (ongoing) is a powersteering leak and a steering gaitor broken and the usual tyre wear :D :D

So yes, its reliable!

(hmmm off home now.... in the zed... eeek!)

The only time mine has 'failed' i.e. it involved calling the RAC, was when the autobox packed up. Other than that it was my everyday car for at least 6 years. There have been some niggles like headlight bulbs, minor water leaks but not what you would consider unreliable over the 9 years that I've now owned it.

Hello Paul. Glad to see you aint dead mate. :D

I must admit that I have had no problems at all with my car that would be worth mentioning. But I will: Flat battery. OD a bit sticky. (new oil) problem sorted. ran rough once. Cooil pack had come loose. Thats it. Nothing else (touch wood).

cheers guys great thenks for all the honesty , ive always known the cars are usaually over 12 years old and things do go wrong , but even when i owned on i heard loads of storys of aed owners with good relaibilty considering age of car

In just over 10 years Paul - one failed series 1 PTU and one water leak.

The rest of my problems have been from entrusting it to the same crap mechanic... :xxx:

auto box for me apart from that mine was reliable. when you think how old the zed is most cars this age have gone to the scrap yard years ago.

1st zx was a uk 1990

no problems mechanical wise

biggest problem was rust

brake and fuel lines

2nd so far so good

but its jdm so go jap :D

have a nice day

bye now

At the end of the day it's an old car, but it's like your wife sometimes you love it sometimes you hate it but you dont want to be without it

like you paul

the only regret i have is the fooooooking garage that i took it to

ohhh i guess thats the same one

i regret it every day, even more so recently. In 2 years ive had a new clutch and thats it. Its just with the age of it im waiting and expecting things to go tits up on it all the time. Its not yet though so fingers crossed.

I shant try to convince you to stay with a zed, as people are trying to convince me to do the same. To be honest i dont think the high fuel costs are offset by the enjoyment the car gives me. They are expensive to run and going to get more expensive to maintain

in over 2 years the only problem was the autobox going, replaced with a manual box, lots of preventative maintenance, and no problems yet, oh and im running 375bhp and 385lbft.

blimey 375bhp just a bit more than the 620ti we both used to own!! , thanks for all coments guys and girls ! its helping a lot , macca you out there ?? shunter ??

Stick with what u really want paul, BUT as you know same as Cybernet , i also used the same mechanic..

Other than having to have rebuilt the engine, due to no fault of its own (wastegate solenoids had been unplugged), it's only actually let me down twice. Once because the battery had expired and the other because the TPS wasn't connected properly. Car's not missed a beat and always starts first time. Overall, I'm confident with its reliability and would be happy to take it on a long drive across Europe.

Ive had mine a few years now. My first thing was the usual auto box going but resolved. I pushed on another few trouble free years until now!! Putting another engine in. Hasn't put me off one bit though. I just grit my teeth and carry on. I love it!!

[sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

had the car for nearly four years it's been decatted from the day i got it. no smoke run's 14-16 psi always started apart from a loose connector on the CAS once. main payout was for a rear wheel bearing and exhauste/brakes etc.

I agree.

In all honesty I am totally happy with my ZX's reliability in the 5 years I have owned it. I did use it everday a while back - around 50 mile round trip to/from work but now it's a second car.

However I still use the ZX for holidays; since it has never let me down I still trust it more than my SLK and Rav-4 which are 7 and 5 years old respectively.

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

hi paul. This one i've had nearly 3 years which is the longest i've held onto one. been reliable everyday car, apart from autobox going, shocks, b.discs/pads. The one thing i'll say about the different z's i've owned is the engine itself. never had a problem on any of them. I'm quite surprised when i see cars on the forum with engine problems. just down to abuse by past owners i guess.

Hope you see sense and keep that fire going
