No...I think you are missing the point. It is hardly the 'ignorant' that are going to do the inventing of a belief that has sustained the majority of the planet for over a 1,000 years.

What you are talking about is the corruption of religion by the power seekers.

Any enquiring mind would question why has man become so dominant on the planet.....true...it is a quantum leap to come up with the whole Adam and Eve thing. These stories are not LITERAL.

Any structured society needs a set of rules by which to operate....and religion is not a bad starting point. Personally I have made my views clear but I don't dispute people's right to their own opinions...and I fully agree with your comments on the pathetic 'I'm in with God' crowd. The whole point about them though is the fact that they are the antithesis of true christian spirit.

Don't you ever think about things past the superficial level.....the miracle of life, the universe...how and why do things happen?

OK...I suppose it could be that it 'just does'.

The thing about religion is its easy to dismiss...because there is no proof....but there are an awful lot of very intelligent people that have chosen to be comforted by this 'convenient belief'.

I'm absolutely terrified of death....well, not the actual death....being dead is what I don't really fancy.

Warren must ask that question quite frequently then...

WaZZa: "How and why have my turbos blown again?"

WaZZa[Few months later]: "How and why has my engine blown up again?"

God as a person is obviously silly.

The question should really be, is there more meaning to life than survival. An average animal is purely driven by the desire to survive and reproduce. This is clear. Human's need more than that - although loads of money and good sex is not to be sneezed at and would satisfy many smile.gif!

I believe that we did evolve from animals, but we are more than simply complex animals. This is where a desire to transcend mortality and achieve a oneness (sense of connection/empathy) with others is not explicable purely by evolutionary survival/reproduction arguments. It could be argued perhaps that survival of our species requires cooperation of the masses and this is why we desire a sense of brotherhood? but I think it is better explained by the fact that we have evolved to such an extent that unlike perhaps any other animal, we can contemplate our own existence. Imagine a machine doing that [don't quote Bladerunner!] ? The experience of consciousness we have is amazing if you believe we are simply complex organic

machines !

Evolution of a species does not require evolution of the whole species (just a number who have encountered different evolutionary pressures from the rest) - hence not all chimps evolved to be humans.

We still have many characteristics of animals but we have something more as well.
