Can only see one though.

this was coverd about a year ago i think and from what ive seen and learnt its down to choice  ive fitted both ways and i cant tell the diffrence apart from i like the grooves flowing in the same direction as rotation :)

what i will add is the open end of groove is able to clear its self with the flow going this way, kinda like a water channel on a tire

im sure i read somewhere that the grooves should fit with the rotation of drive due to the gasses escape and pad wear

Oh was it, done a search and cant find anything

this is gonna do my head in, depends on the disc design, AP recommend grooves against direction of rotation and ebc recommend with the direction. From what i can find it has more to do with vane direction on the discs, if you have curved vanes on your discs they must be fitted with the vane curve in the direction of rotation for correct cooling, that dictates which direction the grooves face.

Just looked at a load of pics on google, some one way and some the other, i guess with grooves facing forwards you get more aggresive braking performance and more pad wear.

;)

it would be spelled bud as i was talking in the current tense, spelt if i was reffering to the past tense

you take this place to serious my friend, chill out :duffer: :duffer:

the downside of the more aggressive braking is that it is because of extra friction against the groove face and would also create more heat

lol

I was being a tart on purpose as boredom has struck at home with the wife watching crap on tv.........call it banter, call it bullshit, call it the smell of team spirit, im chilled, just bored

yea my wifes doing just the same mate, allways watchin shite :( should do my weeks accounts tonight but been having ebay moment all night and so far ive spent about £250k lol

lol, my missus promised not to watch too much crap if i promised not to use ebay all the time she watched the crap, i was spending a fortune or planning on spending, was driving her nuts

I got some discs for the back and thought that it was common sense to pust the gas out towards the edges of the discs. I then bought some geniune boxed brembo's for the front and on brembo's instructions (something to read while I had a quick smoke) the groves were facing forward, I then changed my rears to face forward.

No pics of mine.....

......but the above is true. Have the grooves facing forwards makes the brakes more effective at the expense of pad wear. Personally, I prefer the better braking ability and to hell with the expense of replacing the pads more frequently

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Precisely.... need all the help we can with these brakes! brake pad cost is minimal in mileage terms, maybe 20,000 miles for £100 in brake pads and £5,000 in petrol.

I've just had new brake pads fitted, incidentally. Now I've never actually had a problem with the brakes on my ZX; the car always stopped every bit as good as my SLK or Rav-4. In fact from higher speeds (say 80+) the ZX has better braking ability and gives more feeling of being in control.

I only have stock size 3g grooved discs on the front with standard rears too. But the garage fitted new Mintex pads all round, changed the fluid and cleaned the front calipers properly before re-assembly. The car is transformed - it really stops well now, despite not being bad before.

The lesson is change the fluid annually and make sure the calipers are not seized. Free the pistons as necessary and the brakes will be fine; it's all down to their age and maintenance!

my discs have grooves going both ways but there is a direction of travel arrow on the disc as well
